WE CARE
Willows is a bright and spacious purpose built modern care home for the elderly, set in a pleasant residential area of Romford. We offer the highest possible quality of life, while providing them with an exceptional standard of long term and respite residential, nursing and specialist dementia care.
OUR CARING APPROACH 05 OUR CARING APPROACH A person centred approach is key to the care we offer, as this lets us understand and appreciate our residents for who they really are and build warmer, more meaningful relationships with them. We offer the nursing care our residents need and the support, companionship and activities they want, while respecting their dignity, personality and privacy. Our residents family and friends are an important part of the Willows community, encouraged to visit regularly and made especially welcome. Visiting time is unlimited, so they can come and go at their convenience, and refreshments are always available, with visitors also welcome to stay for a meal, for a small charge. We have a large number of professional nurses on the team, and the majority of our healthcare assistants are trained to or working towards NVQ or Diploma Levels 2 and 3 in Health & Social Care. Together, the nursing and care staff look after our residents wellbeing, comfort and health 24 hours a day. We invest in and support our staff in their continual professional development, including specialist training in caring for the frail, elderly and those with dementia. We involve our residents, their family, friends and representatives closely in the development of a care plan that s ideal for their individual needs. Our key worker system means that every resident has a friendly and familiar face looking out for them, and also facilitates the sharing of information with everyone concerned.
SPECIALIST DEMENTIA CARE 07 SPECIALIST DEMENTIA CARE Living with dementia and dementia related conditions requires specialist care and an environment designed to minimise confusion and support independence. At Willows our dedicated dementia unit has been expertly designed to enhance residents sense of safety, security and belonging. Extra wide corridors, plentiful carefully considered signposting, and individually styled (and hence recognisable) living and dining spaces make navigation simpler and more intuitive. Residents bright and comfortable rooms all have ensuite wet room bathrooms, and we work with them, their family and friends to make their room feel familiar and reassuring, personalising it with family photos, pictures, small pieces of furniture and ornaments, and styling their front door to help them recognise it. Specially designed activities and therapies aimed at bringing improvements in areas such as balance, body part awareness, appetite, understanding, self esteem, mood and behaviour, as well as better engagement with others. Activities include work with objects of reminiscence, singing, container gardening, cooking, music, exercise, and art. At Willows we are proud of the nurturing environment we have created within our specialist dementia unit, which allows residents to receive expert, appropriate care while being supported to live as normal a life as possible.
FOOD THAT NOURISHES 09 Delicious and nutritious meals At Willows we take nutrition very seriously, and our talented, trained chefs create seasonal menus designed to stimulate the appetite. We use the finest fresh produce, wherever possible sourced from local suppliers, and cater for a variety of palettes and dietary requirements. FOOD THAT NOURISHES We encourage residents to eat in the dining room, because dining together is a great opportunity to enjoy some companionship, though residents can, of course, also choose to have their meals in their own room if they prefer. During the summer months many residents invite friends or family to join them in dining al fresco in our lovely private gardens. Drinks and snacks are always available in the lounges for both residents and visitors, and visitors are always welcome to join us for a delicious meal.
LIFE AT WILLOWS 11 LIFE AT WILLOWS Willows has a great mix of relaxed and intimate spaces, and larger communal areas where many of the activities take place. Willows and its extensive gardens have been carefully designed to offer a relaxed, enjoyable and safe environment for all our residents, offering all the advanced facilities you d expect from a modern care facility yet having a really warm and homely feel. The large landscaped garden is fully wheelchair accessible, and on warmer days residents and their guests can head to their favourite seating area to soak up the sunshine, or visit the Garden Cafe to enjoy a pot of tea and some freshly made pastries, perhaps while taking in a live performance from our packed entertainment programme. We also have a variety of specialised equipment and hoists, together with a choice of comfortable mattresses and cushions, as required. Our bright and comfortable rooms all have lovely aspects (those on the ground floor have French windows opening onto the garden), and feature: Aerial socket Nurse call system Telephone point Ensuite Adjustable automatic bed with control handset Other facilities Wifi access throughout the building Wheelchair access to all areas within the home and garden Lift access to all floors On-site parking Daily cleaning and laundry service Hairdressing room with visiting hairdresser* Visiting chiropodist* *chargeable
ALWAYS LOTS TO DO 13 We understand that an active life is a more fulfilling and healthier life, and we encourage and support residents to take part in some of the wide ranging activities. These activities have been chosen to cater for all tastes and bring therapeutic benefits in areas such as mental alertness, self esteem, social interaction and mobility. Where an activity such as gardening or baking has always been important to someone, the opportunity to continue with it at Willows can be hugely important to retaining a strong sense of self. Doing an activity with your loved one is a great way to spend some meaningful time with them and can help you connect in a different way, so we encourage friends and family to join in for dinner, with activities and excursions. We also encourage and support residents to continue with or take up hobbies such as painting or knitting, and are happy to spend one to one time with them in their rooms, chatting, reading newspapers to them or helping them with post and s. We aim to offer residents a home for life, and do everything we can to accommodate changing care needs. We want our residents to be able to stay in the familiar surroundings they feel at home in, being cared for by compassionate carers with whom they have an established and close relationship, rather than enduring the stress and upset of being moved to an unfamiliar and clinical hospital environment. ALWAYS LOTS TO DO Our dedicated activities co-ordinators have created a regular programme of enjoyable activities designed around the tastes and therapeutic needs of our residents. Green fingered residents, for instance, enjoy getting their hands dirty with a spot of container gardening, while those who ve always loved cooking derive enormous fulfilment from our regular baking sessions (and also find themselves very popular with other residents and visitors). Other popular activities range from film matinees to bingo, gentle exercise to excursions in our minibus to local beauty spots and places of interest.
We understand it s the little touches that mean so much and everything we do ensures the best quality of life for all. GET IN TOUCH Visitors are always welcome at Willows, and we d love to show you around our care home and its grounds, and introduce you to our friendly and caring staff. To arrange a visit or to find out more about us simply call You can also find more information We would like to thank all our residents and staff for the photography used in this brochure which has all been taken in our homes.
