1 Technical Bulletin No. MECHANICAL, OPTICAL AND MISCELLANEOUS PROPERTIES OF EVAL RESINS AND FILMS Although the most notable property of EVAL resins and films is their barrier to gases, solvents, flavors and aromas, there are many applications where other properties are important. Tensile strength, stiffness, elongation and optical properties are important in flexible packaging applications. Heat resistance, linear expansion and stiffness are a consideration in the packaging of microchips and other electronic applications. Even in many food applications, thermal properties such as thermal conductivity, specific heat and heat resistance must be taken into account. Fortunately, EVAL resins and films offer excellent mechanical, optical and electrical properties, as well as superior barrier properties. This bulletin reviews various properties of EVAL resins and films. Mechanical Properties Table 1 reviews the mechanical properties of the various EVAL resin grades. Table 2 compares the mechanical and optical properties of EVAL films with several commonpackaging films. 3 Typical Electrical Properties Table 3 indicates the electrical resistance of various EVAL films compared to other packaging films. 5 Thermal Properties The following section is concerned with various thermal properties of EVAL resins and films. Table 4 indicates the excellent dimensional stability and heat resistance of EVAL resins and films.
