( Liturgical Principles: Principles f the Revision of the Authized Contempary Language Common Wship Texts of the Anglican Church of Canada, General Synod 2007) The Collects and Seasonal Prayers over the Gifts and after Communion that follow are intended to express the themes and images of the scriptural readings f the Sundays of Advent and Christmas as well as those f the festivals of the Naming of Christ, Epiphany and the Baptism of Christ. As such they are liturgical prayers, that is to say, they are intended to be spoken not read. In der to enhance the spoken effect of the prayers, we have printed them in sense lines. If they are reproduced in a bulletin f congregational participation, we encourage you to retain these sense lines. COLLECTS The Collect of the Day concludes the entrance rite and provides the transition to the readings f the day.... The fm is extremely simple. This is intentional. The aim is to set the tone f the celebration and to lead directly into the proclamation of the wd.... 9 SEASONAL PRAYERS OVER THE GIFTS The act of preparation is gathered up in the Prayer over the Gifts. This prayer reflects the themes of the liturgy of the day and focuses not only on the gifts of bread and wine, but on the whole wk of the People of God which is the offering of the Church. (The Book of Alternative Services, 177) Advent God of abundance, we bring befe you the precious fruits of your creation, and with them our very lives. Teach us patience and hope as we care f all those in need until the coming of your Son, our Saviour and Ld. Amen. Evangelical Lutheran Wship (adapted) Christmas Good and loving God, we rejoice in the birth of Jesus, who came among the po to bring the riches of your grace. As you have blessed us with your gifts, let them be a blessing f others. With the trees of the field, with all earth and heaven, we shout f joy at the coming of your Son, Jesus Christ our Ld. Amen.
