6 SAFETY >>> Safety!Safety instructions The requirements of the Road Traffic Regulations apply at all times. The unit must only be used for its intended purpose. If you are using the Vision Pro with speakers instead of headphones, the volume must be set to a level at which noises outside the vehicle (sirens etc.) are still audible. Always protect your Vision Pro from dust, humidity, steam, smoke and direct sunlight. Prevent your Vision Pro from getting wet. Should the unit nevertheless become wet, ensure that it is fully dry before switching it on again. Do not operate the unit in extremely high or low temperatures. Switch off the unit immediately if a fault occurs (e.g. emission of smoke or odours). In the interest of safety, the unit must only be opened by a specialist. Please refer to your dealer for repair. 6

7 >>> SAFETY The SD memory card can be removed. Caution! Small children could swallow it. The mains voltages (V) indicated on the mains charger, the car power adapter and the unit must not be exceeded. Failure to observe this may result in destruction of the unit and the charger and cause the battery to explode. Never open the unit or the rechargeable battery. Any modification to the unit is also impermissible and renders the type approval invalid. Use only genuine Harman/Becker original accessories. This will ensure that all the relevant regulations are complied with and damage to health and property is avoided. Dispose of defective units according to the applicable legal requirements. No warranty is granted in the case of improper use. These safety instructions also apply to genuine Harman/Becker original accessories. 7

8 General The Vision Pro Usage The Harman/Becker Vision PRO belongs to the latest generation of portable movie and audio players. The optional analogue/digital TV tuner offers you the greatest flexibility and television enjoyment. With the Vision PRO you can play music files, home videos and pictures you have recorded yourself, bought CDs or DVDs as well as receive TV and radio programmes via the optional TV/radio tuner. As the Vision PRO allows various country settings, it is also possible to use your unit abroad. The digital image processing permits on-screen display with no colour distortion. GENERAL >>> The digital signal processing, linear audio amplifier and integrated Harman/Becker loudspeakers create a sound that will amaze you. Through the use of high-quality lithium polymer batteries, operation of the unit is assured for up to four hours. Using a power saving mode you can also considerably increase the operating time. The elegant design and the ease of operation are further advantages of the Vision PRO. 8

9 >>> GENERAL Unpacking the Vision Pro Note: Your Vision PRO is delivered in stable packaging. If this or its contents exhibit serious damage, the unit must not be unpacked further. In this case, please contact your dealer. Checking the delivery Before starting up the Vision PRO, the delivery contents must be checked to ensure they are complete and in good order. >Carefully unpack the contents and check them. 10 Complaints In the event of a complaint, please contact your dealer. The unit can also be sent directly to Harman/Becker in the original packaging. Dealing with the packaging The original packaging must be kept in a dry place at least for the warranty period. Note: It must be disposed of correctly in line with the national regulations. The packaging must not be burnt. The packaging can be handed over to the dealer, depending on the country where delivered. Description of unit The Vision PRO consists of the basic unit and the supplied accessories in the delivery contents. GENERAL >>> The individual parts are depicted under Delivery contents on page 13. Note: The basic unit and the accessories must not be opened or modified in any way. Basic unit The basic unit consists of the complete electronic unit, a touchscreen for operating it, four integrated speakers for audio playback of music and films, as well as various connections and interfaces. Battery When the battery is flat, it can be recharged by connecting the Vision PRO to the power supply. To this end, connect the Vision PRO to the mains supply ( V) using the mains adapter. 10

11 >>> GENERAL Storage media You can use an SD card, a CD/DVD or a USB memory stick as the storage medium for films, pictures or music files. USB connecting cable You can connect the unit to a standard personal computer having a USB interface using a USB connecting cable. Accessories Mains adapter The mains adapter enables the Vision PRO to be connected to a mains outlet. Requirements for power supply are: Alternating current V 0.5 Amps Hertz Headphones While using the Vision PRO you can connect up to two commercially available headphones with a 3.5 mm jack or corresponding adapter (not included).!danger! Prevention of damage to hearing! The use of headphones or earphones over a relatively long period of time at a high volume may cause permanent damage to your hearing. Conformity with the limits for sound pressure laid down in the standard NF EN :2000 as required by French Article L is guaranteed. 11

12 Note: In many countries, headphones must not be used while driving. Comply with the local national laws and regulations. 18 Operation Maintenance and care The unit is maintenance-free. For proper care, a commercially available cleansing fluid for electrical devices may be applied using a soft damp cloth.!danger Danger to life by electrocution. Always switch off the unit and disconnect the mains power supply unit before cleaning the unit, supplied components, or accessories. Note: Do not use any aggressive or abrasive substances or cloths which may damage the surface. The unit must not be exposed to water. OPERATION >>> Your Vision PRO was designed and manufactured with great care and should be treated with equal care. You will enjoy your Vision PRO for a long time to come if you observe the recommendations listed in the following. Protect your Vision PRO from water and moisture. If your unit is exposed to moisture, switch it off immediately and disconnect the power supply. Allow the unit to dry at room temperature. Do not operate your Vision PRO in a dusty or dirty environment and do not store it in such an environment. Do not store your Vision PRO in hot environments. High temperatures can shorten the service life of electronic components in your unit, damage the rechargeable batteries and cause certain plastics to warp or melt. 18

19 >>> OPERATION Do not store your Vision PRO in cold environments. When the unit warms up to operating temperature, moisture may form internally, causing damage to electronic components. Do not drop your Vision PRO, protect it from shocks and do not shake it. Improper handling could damage components within the unit. Never use corrosive or aggressive chemicals, cleaning solutions or aggressive detergents for cleaning. All the above information applies equally to the Vision PRO, the rechargeable battery, the mains plug and all accessories. Should one of these parts not work properly, please contact your authorised dealer. He will be pleased to assist. Battery quality declaration The capacity of the rechargeable battery in your Vision PRO decreases with every charging/discharging cycle. Improper storage at excessively high or low temperatures may also cause a gradual deterioration of capacity. Consequently, the operating time may be substantially reduced even in the case of a fully charged battery. The rechargeable battery is designed such that it should be possible for it to be charged and discharged after 6 months of operation after the purchase of your Vision PRO. In the event of a significant loss of capacity, we recommend replacement of the rechargeable battery. Please contact your authorised dealer. Use only genuine Harman/Becker original spare parts. 19

20 Display quality declaration In some cases, for technical reasons, a few discoloured dots (pixels) may be visible on the display. Some pixels may also appear brighter or darker. However, such instances do not represent a product flaw. Operation Once the Vision PRO has been unpacked and checked to ensure it is free of damage, the unit can be started up. The individual steps are: Connect power supply. Switch the unit on. Ensure antenna reception by pulling out the antenna or connecting an antenna cable (if the optional TV module is connected). Perform personal settings in the Settings menu. Power supply OPERATION >>> Using the battery The internal power supply is via a rechargeable battery. The rechargeable battery is maintenancefree and does not require any particular care. Note: Please note that with a completely discharged battery, the unit requires up to one minute until it can be switched on again. The button will flash rapidly during this time. Note: In the event of a defective battery, please contact your authorised dealer. Please do not attempt to repair the rechargeable battery yourself. 20

21 >>> OPERATION Via the public mains grid!danger to life! Ensure that you do not have wet hands and that the power supply unit is dry. Only connect the power supply unit to a permissible mains power supply. Connecting power supply The mains adapter is connected to the public mains grid as follows: >Hold the connector at the corrugated grip area and push it into the connecting socket up to the stop without employing excessive force. >Insert the plug of the power supply unit into the socket. The power supply is now connected. Disconnecting power supply >Disconnect the power supply in the reverse order. Note: Remove the power supply unit when not using the Vision PRO for longer periods of time. Switching on and off Note: During battery-powered operation, you should ensure that the battery is sufficiently charged. Your Vision PRO is switched on and off using the button. 21

22 OPERATION >>> Note: When you switch on your Vision PRO again after it was switched off, the last active operation is continued (pieces of music, pictures and films continue to play from the last position). The following start screen appears after the unit has been switched on. >Press for more than 2 seconds to switch on the unit. >Press for more than 2 seconds to switch off the unit. Note: While using your Vision PRO you can access the previous menu by tapping. 22

23 >>> OPERATION Battery status When you operate your Vision PRO using the battery and the power level drops below a certain remaining charge, a window containing a warning will be displayed on the screen. This warning indicates the remaining charge of your battery as a per cent (%). The warning appears at a remaining charge of 25%, 10%, 5% and 1%. Note: A screen displaying the remaining charge is displayed every time your Vision PRO is switched on. Active buttons A one-off warning chime sounds at a remaining charge of 5%. In the main menu active buttons are red; when pressed they take you to a new window or menu. In other menus active buttons are either red or black with white lettering. 23

24 Inactive buttons are grey in the main menu. In other menus only the lettering on the button is grey. The display will not change if an inactive button is pressed. Signal tones Your Vision Pro is provided with two different signal tones: A confirmation tone sounds after a selection has been made in the menus and after pressing. An error tone sounds when you press an inactive button or press a part of the display that is not activated as the touchscreen. Note: The volume of the sound signal is not related to the volume of the entertainment system. It cannot be changed. You can also switch off the confirmation tone as described in Confirmation tone on page 75. Starting for the first time OPERATION >>> The following start screen appears when you start your Vision PRO for the first time: When using your Vision PRO for the first time, you will be prompted to select the user language and the DVD region code. 24

25 >>> OPERATION Setting user language >In the main menu, press. >Press Language. The available languages are displayed. The language currently set is displayed in red. 1 DVD region code Note: The DVD region code can be changed at most five times. After that, the region code entered last is programmed permanently. Select the DVD region code before starting the DVD player for the first time. >In the main menu, press. >Press DVD region code. 1 >Press on the desired language to select it. >Confirm your selection by pressing 1. The language is now set. 25

26 >Select between Europe and North America. >Confirm your selection by pressing 1. TV module (optional) With the separately available TV module it is possible to receive analogue TV programmes, DVB-T and FM radio. Details on using the TV module can be found in the separate instructions. Main menu OPERATION >>> The main menu will appear once you have completed all the settings. You can select the following submenus in the main menu: Movies ( ) Pictures ( ) Music ( ) A/V in 1 ( ) 26

This will take you to the corresponding submenu. Detailed descriptions of the individual menus together with the relevant functions can be found in the following sections. Pop-up windows A pop-up appears in the display during all system procedures that require you to wait (e.g. Autostore). While this screen is displayed a system process is running in the background. Information pop-ups are always displayed if the system wants to notify you of important information (e.g. battery power level). Information pop-ups can be closed by pressing. In other pop-ups, the process is terminated if the button is pressed. 27

28 Menu The Menu button is provided in every application. The appearance and scope of the menu may differ, depending on the application. Volume OPERATION >>> You can change the volume setting in a number of menus. Music playback is illustrated here as an example >Press 1 to open the Menu. Controls for the volume setting are: 1 Increase volume 2 Decrease volume 3 Activate/deactivate mute 28

29 >>> OPERATION The volume setting is located at the same point in the display in other menus. In addition to the controls for regulating the volume, a bar depicts the current volume level. Mute You can switch off the sound on the unit via the mute function. Activating mute >Press 3. When mute is activated, a crossed-out speaker symbol is displayed. Sound settings You can adjust the sound settings in various menus. These sound settings are found in the menus for the functions of video/dvd, TV and music playback. >Call up the menu in the required function. Select Sound. The menu for the sound setting in music mode is shown here by way of example. Deactivating mute >Again, press 3. or >Press 1 or 2. The mute function is cancelled

32 Equalizer The equalizer makes it possible to increase or reduce certain frequency ranges of the sound and thus to adapt the sound characteristics to your own preferences and the sound source. Here you can choose from the preset sound characteristics of Music, Movies and Language or make your own settings. >Call up the menu in the required function. Select Sound. OPERATION >>> You now have the following options: 2 Music 3 Movie 4 Speech 5 Custom >Select a preset sound characteristic by pressing 2, 3 or 4, or press 5 to call up the Equalizer settings >By pressing 1 open the Equalizer menu. 32

Storage media OPERATION >>> You can use an SD card, a CD/DVD or a USB memory stick in your Vision PRO for playing films, pictures and music files. Note: A small slider is located on one side of the SD card. If this is pushed in the direction of the arrow, the SD card is protected from being overwritten. The card slot is located on the left side of the unit. The card slot is equipped with a spring-operated locking and ejector mechanism. 36

37 >>> OPERATION Inserting SD card >Remove the SD card without touching or soiling the contact strip. >Hold the SD card so that the contact strip faces towards the unit and the contacts face towards the rear of the unit. >Insert the SD card into the card slot and, using slight pressure, push it in until it latches in. Ejecting SD card The card slot ejects the card far enough for you to be able to take hold of it with two fingers. >To eject the SD card gently press it with your fingers all the way into the card slot against the tension of the spring. >Then remove your fingers. The card is ejected. >Remove the SD card and place it in the packaging while ensuring not to touch the contact strip. Connecting/removing USB memory stick >Connect the adapter cable to the mini-usb port provided for it. Then carefully plug the USB memory stick into the socket of the adapter cable. Inserting CD/DVD >Hold the CD/DVD without touching or soiling the unprinted data side. >Hold the CD/DVD such that the data side faces towards the rear of the unit. >Insert the CD/DVD into the drive and, using slight pressure, push it in until it is drawn in. 37

38 Ejecting CD/DVD The CD/DVD is ejected using a button, which is available in the following functions: Films Pictures Music Information in the Settings The drive ejects the CD/DVD far enough for you to be able to take hold of it. >To eject the CD/DVD press the button in one of the functions. The CD/DVD is ejected. >Remove the CD/DVD and place it in the packaging while ensuring not to touch the data side. OPERATION >>> 38

39 >>> FILMS Films General film features >In the main menu, press Movies. You can play video files from CDs, DVDs, an SD card or with a USB memory stick via the USB port. Supported formats are: Video-CD DVD video MPEG-1 to MPEG-4, DIV-X, XVID, AVI Note: When the Movies function is opened, the source used last is displayed and activated, if this is possible. The switching of playback source is described in Folder selection on page 41. Playback media containing unsupported formats are displayed as inactive buttons. If a film comes to the end, it is stopped. Press to play it again. 39

40 Action buttons The following buttons are called action buttons: 1 Track skip backwards 2 Track skip forwards 3 Search backwards Using this button you can rewind within the film that is playing. Pressing the button repeatedly enables you to rewind at different speeds (2, 4, 8 and 16 times the normal speed). Press to start the film at the desired point. Hold the button down to rewind at four times the normal speed until you release the button again. 4 Search forwards Using this button you can fast forward within the film that is playing. Pressing the button repeatedly enables you to fast-forward at different speeds (2, 4, 8 and 16 times the normal speed). Press to start the film at the desired point. Hold the button down to fast-forward at four times the normal speed until you release the button again. 5 Play/Pause 6 Stop FILMS >>> Displays If you have pressed an action button, the corresponding icon as well as short text information are displayed at the top left edge of the screen. 40

41 >>> FILMS Folder selection When the status screen is displayed, the folder button is located at the top of the screen. Pressing this button enables you to select the storage medium and folder containing videos >Press 1. The folder view is displayed. Note: When opening the folder overview, the folder for the video played most recently is displayed, if this is possible. Now you have the following selection/operating options: 1 Selection of storage medium. The current storage medium is indicated in red. 2 Back to film playback. 3 Scroll up in the list displayed. 4 Switch the view to one folder level up. 5 Scroll down in the list displayed. 6 Direct selection of a video or folder. When selecting a video, this video is then played. 41

42 DVD video Status screen The status screen is opened by tapping the display The following operating options are available in the status screen: 1 Open Video Menu 2 Open previous chapter 3 Open next chapter 4 Search backwards 5 Search forwards 8 6 Start playback (pause ) 7 End playback 8 Open folder selection/media selection 9 Set volume, mute 10 Eject for CD/DVD FILMS >>> DVD Video Menu Using the DVD Video Menu you can display the internal DVD menu, call up the DVD settings, display information on the current DVD and make sound and picture settings. You can open the DVD Video Menu in the DVD status screen. 1 >In the status screen press 1. The Menu is opened. 42

43 >>> FILMS DVD menu The DVD menu is a menu stored on the DVD in which various settings for the video and audio playback can be changed. >In the Menu select the DVD menu entry. Then, by tapping the corresponding field, choose DVD menu, DVD settings, Info, Video or Sound. 43

44 DVD settings >In the Menu select the DVD settings entry. The following settings can be made in the DVD settings: Audio language Language Subtitle Angle Using Language you can adjust the language settings of the soundtrack (the Original option plays the soundtrack in the language in which the DVD was created). The various subtitles can be selected using the Subtitle button. FILMS >>> Note: All the available subtitles appear in alphabetical order, including the button Subtitle off. Note: If you select a language in the menus Audio language, Language or Subtitle that is not available on the DVD, a language that is available is selected automatically. Note: If there are several Angle available on a DVD for a film scene, the camera symbol is displayed at the top left of the screen and you can select the various views by pressing Angle. 44

45 >>> FILMS Information >In the Menu select the Info entry. Information on the current DVD is displayed. 58 Slideshow A slideshow can be started in the status screen or in the folder selection ( Folder selection on page 61). After starting the slideshow, all the pictures in the current folder will be displayed for 2, 5 or 10 seconds, depending on the setting. >In the status screen press 1. The slideshow starts with the first picture in the current folder. During the slideshow the action buttons are hidden. The action buttons are displayed by touching the screen. Note: If a picture cannot be displayed (unsupported picture format etc.), this is blocked and also cannot be selected manually. 1 PICTURES >>> Full-screen mode You can switch to the full-screen mode directly from the status screen. >In the status screen press 1. Supported formats are: Audio CD MP3 WMA WAV M3U (playlist format) Note: When the music playback function is opened, the source used most recently is displayed and activated, if possible. The switching of playback source is described in the section Folder selection on page 68. Playback media containing unsupported formats are displayed as inactive buttons. If a playback medium has played to the end, playback stops and the button is displayed. Pressing will take you back to the main menu. 63

65 >>> MUSIC Fast-forward button Using the Fast-forward button you can fast forward within the piece of music that is playing. Pressing the button repeatedly enables you to fast-forward at different speeds (2, 4, 8 and 16 times the normal speed). Press to start the piece of music at the desired point. Hold the button down to fast-forward at four times the normal speed until you release the button again. Fast-reverse button Using the Fast-reverse button you can rewind within the piece of music that is playing. Pressing the button repeatedly enables you to rewind at different speeds (2, 4, 8 and 16 times the normal speed). Press to start the piece of music at the desired point. Hold the button down to rewind at four times the normal speed until you release the button again. Music playback menu Collected together in the music playback menu are settings for playing music. You can change sound settings, activate the repeat function, switch on the shuffle function and request information on the current piece of music and medium.
