These signals are used for control of both the AS & TC & VSC control system. oth the front and rear rotors have 48 serrations. When the rotors rotate, the magnetic field emitted by the permanent magnet in the speed sensor generates an AC voltage. 3 DIAGNOSTICS AS WITH ED & A & TC & VSC SYSTEM DI339 INSPECTION POCEDUE Start the inspection from step in case of using the handheld tester and start from step in case of not using the handheld tester. Check output value of speed sensor. (a) Connect the handheld tester to the DC3. (b) Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the handheld tester main switch ON. (c) Select the DATAIST mode on the handheld tester. Check that there is no difference between the speed value output from the speed sensor observed in the handheld tester and the speed value displayed by the speedometer when the vehicle is in motion. There is almost no difference in the displayed speed values. There is tolerance of ± 0 % in the speedometer indication. Go to step 4. Check speed sensor. 405 Front: (a) Make sure that the speed sensor connector and the wire harness side connector are securely connected. (b) Disconnect the speed sensor connector. (c) Turn the ignition switch OFF. Measure resistance between terminals and of the speed sensor connector. esistance:.6.8 k at 0 C Measure resistance between terminals and of the speed sensor connector and body ground. esistance: M or higher

(b) Make sure that the speed sensor connector and the wire harness side connector are securely connected. (c) Disconnect the speed sensor connector. (d) Turn the ignition switch OFF. Measure resistance between terminals and of the speed sensor connector. esistance: k at 5 ± 5 C Measure resistance between terminals and of the speed sensor connector and body ground. esistance: M or higher eplace speed sensor or sub wire harness. NOTICE: Check the speed sensor signal last (See page 38) DI. 3 Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between each speed sensor and skid control ECU (See page 34). IN epair or replace harness or connector.

The installation bolt is tightened properly and there is no clearance between the sensor and front steering knuckle or rear axle carrier eplace speed sensor. NOTICE: Check the speed sensor signal last (See page 38) DI. 5 Check speed sensor and sensor rotor serrations. Normal Signal Waveform m/s / Division V / Division GND W0400 (EFEENCE) INSPECTION USI OSCIOSCOPE (a) emove the skid control ECU with the connector still connected. (b) Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals F+ F, F+ F, + and + of the skid control ECU. Drive the vehicle at the speed of about 0 km/h ( mph), and check the signal waveform. S As the vehicle speed (rpm of the wheels) increases, a cycle of the waveform becomes shorter and the fluctuation in the output voltage becomes greater. S When noise is identified in the waveform on the oscilloscope, error signals are generated due to the speed sensor rotor s scratches, looseness or foreign matter deposited on it. Check and replace skid control ECU.

6 DI34 DIAGNOSTICS AS WITH ED & A & TC & VSC SYSTEM 6 Check sensor rotor and sensor tip Front: emove the front axle hub and the speed sensor. Check the sensor rotor serrations. No scratches, missing teeth or foreign objects on the sensor rotor. Check the sensor tip. No scratches or foreign objects on the sensor tip. If foreign matter (including that on the sensor rotor side) is identified, remove it and after reassembling, check the output waveform. ear: emove the drive shaft. Check the sensor rotor serrations. No scratches, missing teeth or foreign objects. emove the rear speed sensor. Check the sensor tip. No scratches or foreign objects on the sensor tip. If foreign matter (including that on the sensor rotor side) is identified, remove it and after reassembling, check the output waveform. eplace speed sensor or rotor. NOTICE: Check the speed sensor signal last (See page 38) DI. Check and replace skid control ECU.
