1 Project GLAD North Clackamas School District Sea Creatures Kindergarten Science Unit Idea Pages I. Unit Theme The Ocean s Ecosystem: What are the 6 parts of an ecosystem? How do sharks, whales and seals interrelate in their ocean habitat? II. Focus and Motivation Big Book Observation Charts (pictures with room for students to write or sketch) Prediction Page (pretest whole group) Inquiry Charts (what they know, what they want to know) Poems and chants Realia- animal specimens (optional) III. Closure Process all charts, especially the inquiry chart and Prediction Page Map the habitat and migration patterns of sharks, whales and seals Animal speeches Living Wall IV. Science Standards Describe the basic needs of living things Recognize characteristics that are similar and different between organisms. Identify how some animals gather and store food, defend themselves and find shelter Describe a habitat and the organisms that live there Make observations. Based on these observations ask questions or form hypotheses, which can be explored through simple investigations.
