Margie Davidson Edmonton, Alberta Margie Davidson is a quilt artist and surface designer in Edmonton, Alberta. Her love of colour is joyfully expressed through the fabrics she paints and the quilts she creates. Equally important to Margie is her role as an educator. Margie is an entertaining speaker and a supportive instructor. She loves teaching quilters and encourages the creation of individual quilts in her workshops. Margie developed her own quilt making skills by taking local classes and attending conferences from 1994 to the present to study with world-renowned instructors. A quiltmaker for over 25 years, Margie received awards in the CQA/ACC National Juried Show in 2000 and As a CQA/ACC certified quilt judge, Margie is able to recognize and evaluate excellence in workmanship and design and then communicate this to others. She has judged the CQA/ACC National Juried Show in 2006, 2009 and Her art quilts have been exhibited in local and national shows across Canada as well as in Ireland, New Zealand and the United States. She is a member of the Alberta Craft Council, Fibre Art Network and a Professional Artist Member of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA).
Vivian Kapusta Maple Ridge, BC Vivian Kapusta has a background in art, as well as a lifelong passion for fabric and quilting. A retired high school teacher, she still loves to see her students reach beyond their norm. Five years of working with an international Abstract Challenge group has allowed her to develop a keen eye for design, colour and texture, while experimenting with methods and techniques. A thought becomes a sketch or image, which translated into fibre, becomes a quilt. Occasionally, a watercolour painting has developed further into an art quilt. Her original landscape quilts are impressionistic in style, based on her travels and photography. Each quilt is new and original in design, encouraging continuous creative problem solving. Vivian s quilts have been shown nationally and internationally. A published writer in the quilting industry, Vivian s articles can be seen in magazines such as the Canadian Quilter. A big believer in putting your passionate self into your creative endeavours, Vivian is an avid volunteer. Beyond her years of support with the CQA/ACC she has organized and curated several quilt shows at the Quilt and Textile Museum in La Conner. She feels that volunteering is an important part of giving back to the world of quilting!
Libby Lehman Houston, Texas Libby Lehman began making quilts 40 years ago when her mother, Catherine Anthony, signed them up for a basic class. Over the years she has evolved from a traditional handworker to one of the leaders in innovative machine stitching. Her studio art quilts have won many awards and appear in private, corporate, and museum collections, including The Museum of the American Quilter s Society, VISA International, Fairfield Processing Corporation and Cogen Technologies. She is the author of 'Threadplay with Libby Lehman' and her quilts have appeared in many books and international publications. Her quilt Joy Ride was chosen as one of the Best 100 American Quilts of the 20 th Century. In 2004 Bernina awarded Libby their prestigious Quilt Leadership Award. In addition to making quilts, most of her time is spent teaching, judging and lecturing in the U.S. as well as internationally (Canada, Japan, Australia, the UK, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand, the Netherlands, France, Spain, New Zealand, and Switzerland). Libby lives in Houston, Texas, her native city, with her husband Lester. They have a 40-year-old son, Les Jr., who is an acclaimed fly fisherman and gourmet chef. Libby and Les Jr. have a great time exchanging threads and gadgets while Libby dines on his dinners.
Patti Morris Red Deer, Alberta Patti started her career as a Registered Nurse and progressed to teaching Trauma Nursing at two big hospitals and then finished off teaching at The Faculty of Nursing for Red Deer College. After a long career she obtained a Diploma in Textile Designing out of N.A.I. T. Edmonton in Her passion in teaching has always been to see how other fellow students can grow and be challenged, as she herself has been. Since retiring from nursing six years ago, she is now pursuing Fabric Art. Switching lanes has truly been rewarding and exciting for her. Her focus over the past six years has been directed mostly to designing pieces out of fabrics for Doctors Without Borders (MSF), pieces that generate dollars for medicine and clean water to those without. Patti joined her local Guild in 2002 and from there the rest is history! Playing outside the rules she loved being different. With her background in textiles and designing it created her own little world. She now spends much of my time pursuing Art Classes at the Local College. Patti will never lose her passion for teaching and helping others succeed.
Elizabeth Spannring La Centre, Washington This is the craft that challenges Elizabeth s creativity and imagination, which allows her to be passionate and sentimental, and gives meaning to her daily life. She is often asked how long she has been quilting, and cannot pinpoint a certain movement of time when the transition between seamstress and quiltmaker occurred. In 1974 Elizabeth pieced her first quilt. It was made of 6" squares of a shimmery type of bridal satin was purchased at the local fabric store. It was silky and elegant, had a lustrous sheen, and the colours were the ones she is still drawn to today; hues of periwinkle, violet and indigo. Embroidery threads secured the layers together and it was large enough for a full size bed. This was the beginning of the process of making quilts. In 1990 the journey really began with a lap sized Trip Around the World quilt that Elizabeth machine pieced and hand quilted. As this is one of the 2½ quilts that she had hand quilted, it is a rather unique part of her own collection! A small community in SW Washington is the place she calls home, where her husband, two almost grown kids and four cats carefully maneuver their way through fabric, books and pins.
