2 Moses is Born Many years passed, and Joseph s family grew very large in Egypt. His family lived in the land of Goshen. They prospered in Goshen. Joseph and his brothers died after many blessed years. Their families continued to grow. 1 Illustrations by Paula Rondeau CHILDREN S BIBLE LESSON

3 Pharaoh became the new king of Egypt. He did not know Joseph. He did not like that there were so many Israelites. Joseph s families were called Israelites. Pharaoh was afraid that the Israelites would someday take over and attack the Egyptians. So he made slaves out of the many people. Pharaoh worked them extremely hard. But the harder they worked, the more babies they had. LEVEL 1 / LESSON 10 2

4 Pharaoh decided this growth could no longer happen. He ordered the Israelite midwives to kill all the baby boys that were born. The midwives did not listen to Pharaoh. They obeyed God and did not kill the baby boys. 3 CHILDREN S BIBLE LESSON

5 One woman gave birth to a boy and saw that he was very handsome. She did not want to loose him. So she kept him hidden for three months. After three months, she could no longer keep him secret. She wove a reed basket, and put pitch on the bottom. Once the basket was ready, she laid her baby boy in it and put the basket in the river. She told her daughter to watch over and see who picked the basket out of the river. This woman knew God would take care of her baby. LEVEL 1 / LESSON 10 4

6 Nearby, Pharaoh s daughter was bathing in the river. She saw a basket floating and asked her handmaid to pull it out of the river. They discovered a baby boy. Pharaoh s daughter immediately had compassion on the child. She wanted to keep him. She named him Moses. A young girl told the princess that she knew of an Israelite nurse who could look after Moses. The princess told the young girl to bring the nurse to her. 5 CHILDREN S BIBLE LESSON

7 After Moses grew into a young man, his mother had to return him to Pharaoh s daughter. He became a prince in Egypt. Many years had passed, and the slavery was growing worse. Moses did not like that the Israelites were slaves. LEVEL 1 / LESSON 10 6

8 One day, Moses saw an Egyptian hitting an Israelite slave. This made Moses angry. So he killed the Egyptian. Moses thought no one was watching. However, someone was. When Pharaoh found out about it, he wanted to kill Moses. Moses had no choice but to flee. He fled to Midian, where he met Jethro. Moses became a shepherd for Jethro. Shortly after, Moses married Jethro s daughter, Zipporah. One day, Moses was tending his father-in-law s sheep near Mount Sinai. He saw a bush burning with fire. As he got closer, he saw that the bush was not burning up! Moses was curious. God spoke to Moses from the burning bush. He told Moses to remove his shoes because the ground where he was standing was holy. 7 CHILDREN S BIBLE LESSON

9 God saw that the Israelites were enslaved. God told Moses that He was going to send him to Egypt to lead His people out. God called the Israelites His people. Moses was very uncertain about going to Egypt. God showed him a miracle that he would do before Pharaoh. God command Moses to cast his rod to the ground. As soon as Moses did, the rod turned into a large snake. God commanded Moses to pick it up by the tail. Moses grasped it, and the snake became a rod in his hand. LEVEL 1 / LESSON 10 8

10 Moses was worried about going to Egypt because he could not speak well. God sent Aaron, Moses brother along with him. Aaron would talk to Pharaoh. God warned them that Pharaoh would not let the Israelites go right away. God would have to perform many miracles before Pharaoh would be convinced to let them go. He liked that they were his slaves, but God did not like this. God promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that He would bless His people and that they would prosper. The Israelites were not prospering as slaves. God was going to deliver them and bring them to a land flowing with milk and honey. Moses and Aaron traveled to Egypt to see Pharaoh. Parents, explain to your children the many miracles that God performed so Pharaoh would let the Israelites go CHILDREN S BIBLE LESSON
