1 To: Financial Literacy Teachers High School Principals High School Counselors District CTE and Curriculum Directors Date: January 18, 2016 Subject: 2016 UTAH JUMP$TART COALITION FINANCIAL LITERACY SCHOLARSHIPS The Utah Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy (UJ$C) and America First Credit Union (AFCU) are proud to sponsor up to four $1,000 scholarships for Utah high school students, graduating class of Complete scholarship information is included in this document. The Utah Jump$tart Scholarship Competition is designed to recognize students who can demonstrate a solid understanding of financial literacy concepts and are pursuing a post-secondary education. The Utah Jump$tart Coalition is a statewide, 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving the financial literacy of Utah s youth by promoting the teaching of personal finance from kindergarten to twelfth grade. Utah Jump$tart Coalition Scholarship Program Rules Scholarship Use The scholarship may be used for any field of study at an accredited Title IV fund-dispersing post-secondary institution. Search here for eligible post-secondary institutions. Please direct questions about eligible institutions to Jodi Jones at Eligibility Applicant MUST: 1. Be a high school student, graduating class of 2016, at an accredited Utah school. 2. Have successfully completed or currently be enrolled in the General Financial Literacy course. 3. Plan to pursue post-secondary education. Application requirements: 1. Submit completed application form (attached page 4 or available at 2. Submit required essay as specified in application criteria (attached page 3, Item #2 ESSAY). 3. Submit post-secondary institution acceptance letter OR document indicating student has completed the application process and is being considered for admission. 4. Submit complete application, essay and post-secondary documentation via in PDF format OR via online submission form, no later than midnight March 18, Note: Late, incomplete, mailed or hand-delivered entries will not be accepted. Selection and Judging All qualifying entries will be judged by a panel composed of representatives from the scholarship sponsoring organizations. All decisions of the judges are final. Students will receive points for submitting the completed scholarship application form (attached page 4 or available at 2. College Application In order for students to maximize their opportunities, recipients of this scholarship may apply for admission to any accredited Title IV fund-dispersing post-secondary institution. Students will receive points for providing a post-secondary institution acceptance letter OR document indicating student has completed the application process and is being considered for admission. 3. Essay Submit an essay addressing the following essay question: "Explain how you plan to pay for college and related expenses while keeping debt to a minimum. a. Students will receive points based on their writing skills and the following essay requirements: 1. Be no more than 750 words 2. Be typed 3. Be double-spaced 4. Have one-inch margins 5. Be in 12 point font 6. Not include photos or notebooks 7. Include at least three (3) reference sources. 4. Application Submission All entries MUST: a. Scholarship Disbursement If the student requires that scholarship funds be deferred, they must request the deferment in writing.
