9 WHAT IS IT? 6 month program for foreign attorneys with Korean ethnicity (possible extension to another term) Work as a Visiting Research Fellow at IOJ Next term will begin February 1, 2014 WHY WAS IT SET UP? The program aims to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between foreign and Korean attorneys regarding the respective criminal justice systems Each year, numerous Korean prosecutors study abroad for 6-18 month term, but having an In-house foreign attorney in Korea is mutually beneficial for constructive dialogue and networking development

12 WHO WILL I BE WORKING WITH? Senior level prosecutors (10+ years) who are recruited as Prosecutor Professors to design, implement, and teach attendees at the IOJ. (IOJ courses for new and experienced prosecutors at various levels of specialty training and leadership development) Chief level prosecutors (15+ years) who are recruited for special research projects as Research Scholars The most experienced and qualified criminal investigators recruited also as professors Top quality staff

13 WHAT WILL I BE DOING? Research and Consultation for IOJ Consultation for Ministry of Justice and Prosecution Service Conduct Lectures, Briefings, and Seminars primarily for IOJ and other institutions such as law schools Miscellaneous work as needed WHAT IS COM PENSATION? 5,000,000 KW each month (equivalent to approx. U.S. $4800) Monthly Tax deduction of approx. 250,000 KW (U.S. $230) Auto deposited to Korean bank acct. of choice One standard class roundtrip airfare for Research Fellow 12

14 AM ENITIES Large fully furnished personal office Shared secretary with other Research Fellows (senior Korean prosecutors) Daily Buffet Style Korean meals at cafeteria Access to Athletic Facilities WHAT ARE THE HOURS? 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week Typically 9:00am-6:00pm Korean holidays observed One day of leave per month (6 in term) Sick leave is only for Research Fellow

20 WHO CAN APPLY? Attorneys (prosecutors, judges, law professors, public defenders, lawyers, etc.) who speak Korean (Fluency preferred) Attorneys with significant legal experience Attorneys with criminal prosecution experience (generally at least 5 years) Attorneys who can communicate well with Korean counterparts, including public speaking HOW DO I APPLY? 21 VISA LOGISTICS E-7 Visa will be issued for the position. It is a Special Occupation Visa issued by the MOJ Valid for a specific term necessary documents must be submitted in advance F-4 Visa can be applied for on your own. F-4 is a special Visa for People with Korean Heritage. (offers many benefits during residence in Korea) Foreign citizens who previously possessed Republic of Korea (ROK) citizenship -They must have renounced their ROK citizenship Foreign citizens with at least one parent or grandparent who possessed ROK citizenship in the past but who currently is a citizen of another country
