1 PRECEPTS FROM THE WORD THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU Conrad DeFriese Welcome to Precepts from the Word. I m Conrad DeFriese. Romans 10:17 says, So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. The title of my Bible teaching is The Word of God Will Guide and Keep You. I believe as you hear this message that the Word of God will become more real and alive to you than ever before. As I go through this lesson today, the thing that I will be focusing on is to see how God wants you to look at the written Word which reveals Jesus Christ, the Living Word, to your life. As you hear and read the Word of God, receive it as it is God speaking to you. In John, chapter 1 and verse 1, we read, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. From the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation, the Bible is a revelation of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is called the Word of God. As you THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 1

2 hear and read the Word of God, think about it as being Jesus Christ talking to you by the Holy Spirit. The Word of God instructs and teaches. Psalms 32 and verse 8 says, I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. I want you to think of this Bible verse where it says I will instruct thee and teach thee. That is saying that the Word of God will instruct and teach you. Jesus Christ, by the Holy Spirit, will instruct and teach you. It is important to have pastors, teachers, evangelists and other types of ministers in your life. It is important to have believers in the body of Christ to minister things of God to you. It is also very important that you go to God s Word and receive what He is saying to you. Look at the Bible as it is God speaking to you. He just said in this verse, I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way that thou shalt go. The Word of God will always be right there with you. When there is no person or individual to help you, the Word of God is there. The Holy Spirit is with you and He will never leave you or forsake you. No matter where you are or what you are going through, you will always have the Holy Spirit on the inside of you. You will THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 2

3 always have the Word of God. God s Word is there to instruct and teach you. The Word of God is your counsellor. Psalms, chapter 119, verse 24, says, Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors. The Psalmist David looked at the Word of God as being counsellors unto him. You can look at the Word of God today and let it be your counselor. Whatever your need is, somewhere in the Word of God is an answer. It has instruction, guidance and wisdom to give you. The Word of God is a lamp and a light. Psalms 119, verse 105, says, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. As you look at the Word of God as being God speaking to you, it will light your pathway. Let the Word of God come alive to you as never before. Let it light your path. Let it show you the way to go. When you read and hear the Word of God, be a doer of that Word. Believe it. Receive it. Make it your own. Take it as instruction and wisdom directly to you. THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 3

4 The Word of God leads and keeps you. Proverbs, chapter 6, verse 22, says, When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. The Word of God is always there in every area of your life. Twenty-fourhours a day, it is there to work on your behalf. In verse 23 of Proverbs, chapter 6, it says, For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life. The Word of God, the commandments of God, the testimonies of God and the judgments of God are a lamp and a light in your life. The Word of God is there to guide you. Don t just look to pastors, evangelists, teachers and other people to have the answer for you. Yes, God has placed them in the body of Christ to equip the saints and to give you what the Word of God says; but, you want to look directly to the Word also. Let it be a lamp and a light in your life. THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 4

5 The Holy Spirit will bring the Word of God to your remembrance. Isaiah, chapter 30 and verse 21, says, And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. The Holy Spirit will bring to our remembrance the Word of God. God has designed His Word to be our instruction, to be our plan, to guide our lives, and to be wisdom unto us in every area of life. The Word of God will bring you good success. Joshua, chapter 1 and verse 8, says, This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8 in the Amplified Bible says that you will know how to deal wisely in the affairs of this life. THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 5

6 As you meditate on the Word of God and spend time thinking and talking about it, the Holy Spirit will bring it alive in your life to instruct you, keep you and give you wisdom to know what to do in every area of life. The Word of God is your guide. Psalms, chapter 48 and verse 14, says, For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. This Scripture is talking about the Word of God. When we think of God s Word, we think of God. Jesus is the Word. He is the Living Word. The written Word unveils and reveals to us the Living Word. The Word of God directs your path. Proverbs, chapter 3 and verse 5, says, Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Verse 6, In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Isn t that a wonderful promise that God has given us in His Word? Trust in Him with all of your heart. Lean not to your own understanding; but, acknowledge Him in all your ways. Acknowledge the Word of God. Acknowledge that what the Bible says is true. Be a doer of that Word. Receive the written Word as God speaking to you and giving you His wisdom. The Word of God liveth and abideth forever. 1 Peter, chapter 1 and verse 23, says, Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. Verse 24, For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away. Verse 25, But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. The Word of God will never change. It is always alive. It may have been written several hundred or thousands of years ago; but, it is like an THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 7

8 incorruptible seed. It lives and abides forever. You can go to God s Word and get His wisdom. You can take what He says in His Word and receive it in your heart like you would put seed into the ground. As you do that, it will come alive. The power that is in that Word will go to work in your life. The Word of God shall not pass away. Matthew, chapter 24, verse 35, says, Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. The word pass away means change. The heavens and earth may change; but, the Word of God will never change. It is steadfast forever and forever. The principles and precepts of God are never changing. People may change. People in ministry may change. Things around you may change; but, praise God, the Word of God will never change. Psalms 119, verse 89, says, For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Isaiah, chapter 40 and verse 8, says, The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 8

9 We see everywhere in the Word of God that it never changes. It is always there. The Word of God is life and health. Proverbs, chapter 4 and verse 20, says, My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Verse 21, Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. Verse 22, For they (talking about the Word of God) are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Give attention to God s Word. Take time to give some time to the Word of God. Spend time meditating and thinking about it. These verses tell us that there is life and health in it. The Word of God keeps you strong and blessed. Psalms, chapter 1 and verse 2, But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 9

10 Verse 3, And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The Word of God gives light and understanding. Psalms, chapter 119 and verse 130, says, The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. When you get in the Word of God and receive it as God speaking to you, the entrance of that Word into your life gives light. It causes the dark pathway to be lit up. It will show you the way to go. God has made provision to give you Divine wisdom and Divine guidance in every situation and every problem that you will ever face. The Word of God keeps you from getting offended or stumbling. Psalms 119, verse 165, says, Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 10

11 The word offend means to cause to stumble. Those that love the Word of God and will depend on it, believe it and stand on it will be kept from getting offended and from stumbling or falling. Praise God for His Word! I encourage you today to get in the Word of God as never before. Depend upon it. Lean upon it. Stand upon it. God has given you His book. He has given you His Word to be with you in every situation. The Word of God will accomplish what it says. In Isaiah, chapter 55 and verse 10, it says, For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater. Verse 11, So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. God s Word cannot return to Him void. If you will meditate on it, think about it and believe what it says, it is impossible for His Word to return void and THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 11

12 not do exactly what it says. You must take fast hold of it. Get a grip on it and refuse to turn it loose. Refuse to look at outside circumstances and situations that are contrary to it. If you will hold to the Word of God, it will do what it says in your life. God watches over His Word to perform it. Jeremiah, chapter 1 and verse 12, says, Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it. The word hasten means I will watch over it. If you will hold to God s Word, if you will believe it and not turn it loose, He will watch over it to see to it that it does what it says it will do. Live by the Word of God. Matthew, chapter 4 and verse 4, says, But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. It s not enough just to take part of God s Word. It is important to take every Word. As you purpose in your heart by the help of the Holy Spirit to live by every Word, God will keep His every promise to you. THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 12

13 Abide in the Word of God. John, chapter 15 and verse 7 says, If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Abiding in Him is being born-again. The Word of God must also abide within you. You must remember it. Stand upon it. Confess it. Declare it. Believe it and refuse to turn it loose. The Word of God is able to save your soul. James, chapter 1 and verse 21, says, Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. When you were born-again, you were born-again in your spirit. Your soul is your mind, will and emotions. If you will take hold of the Word of God, it will save, deliver, and set your soul free from any kind of bondage. Your emotions and feelings that are in the soul realm will be set free by the Word of God as you hold to it, believe it and refuse to turn it loose. THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE AND KEEP YOU 13

14 I pray for you today. Heavenly Father, I pray for everyone listening to this message that the Word of God will become so real and so alive. I pray for them to be strengthened in their inner being and that they will take hold of the Word of God and refuse to turn it loose, and believe it to meet their every need. In Jesus Name I pray.
