4 Count the change Count the change means amount of money to be returned to the buyer by cashier. To count the change start from the price of the item bought and count up to the amount given. Copyright Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 4

5 Using Models to count change First the buyer purchases the item. Buyer pays the bill. Cashier gives the change. Then buyer counts the change. Copyright Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 5

6 How can you find out how much change you get if you pay for a $2.50 toy with $5.00? Solution: First count up 2 quarters from $2.50 to $3.00 Then count up from $3.00 to $5.00 Then count the total coins and bill: $2.50 in change. Copyright Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 6

7 If Lisa buys a toy for $7.79 and gives the cashier a ten dollar bill. Find the change. Solution: The cashier can find the change by counting up from $7.79 to $10.00 $7.79 to $ cent $7.80 to $ dime $8.00 to $ dollars Copyright Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 7
