RMIT English Worldwide Program (REW) is an innovative and fully packaged English curriculum specifically designed to improve participants English Standard through a persistence and systematic training. RMIT English Worldwide program includes courses specifically designed for learners wanting to achieve an IELTS Score (International English Language Testing System) or students on a pathway to University or further studies. The curriculum The curriculum has been developed across 4 levels with a total duration of hours per level. Programme Structure 200 contact hours + 50 hours self-study for each level. Evening courses Each level lasts, two 3-hour tuitions per week in class, plus 2-hour self study per week. 3. Which level should you join? All applicants will have to participate in the English Placement Test to determine their starting level. This entry assessment consist a 20-min computer-based English Test and a 30-min Written Test. Please see attached schedules for dates of tests. Based on test results, participants will be notified the class allocated and the time schedule before commencement. Progression to Next Level After successfully completing requirements of a level, participants may wish to proceed to the next level to achieve a higher proficiency of English Language. 4. Accurate Assessment Student assessment is a continuous process by completing continuous assessment tasks and end of course assessment. 3 Fee Per Level Member: HK$11,400 (HK$5,700 for 1st instalment) Non-Member: HK$12,000 (HK$6,000 for 1st instalment) (Payable by 2 equal instalments in ) (Reimbursable under CEF upon passing either ELSA or BULATS test) Award of Certificate Participants who successfully complete all modules in a course, and meet the 80% attendance requirement will be awarded the RMIT English Worldwide Certificate. RMIT English Worldwide Certificates are recognised by RMIT University. Reimbursable by Continuing Education Fund (CEF) This REW Program (Level 3-6) has been included to be reimbursable under the CEF. Hong Kong residents aged 18 to 60 are reimbursed 80% of the course fee or HK$10,000, whichever is lower. Contents (Level 3-6) BULATS English Test (Business Language Testing Service) Further advice will be provided in class. REW courses are useful for jobs, social and academic requirements focusing on vocabulary, grammer, listening, speaking, reading and writing. 1) Language - 50 hours Assisting students in vocabulary, tenses, word linking, sentence stress, relative clauses, active expressions, voice range, cause & effect, dependent clauses, comparison & contrast and request and offers. 2) Listening and Speaking - 75 hours Level 3 - practice talking to new people - respond to an invitation - make, accept or decline suggestion - begin conversation using small talk - give a talk on own life story Level 4 - ask and answer questions in an interview - talk about products and services - make telephone enquiry and booking a holiday - use listening strategy to an important lecture - use expressions to show interest and surprise 3) Reading and Writing - 75 hours Level 3 - complete forms with personal details - write a requesting information - organize texts into paragraphs - identify arguments and supporting reasons - write a person s character after reading Level 4 - read and write personal profiles - read and compare two cultures - write a short newspaper report - write hypothesis and speculate about the past - write a persuasive letter on problems and solutions Level 5 - use of language in agreement and disagreement - listen for main ideas in a speech - practice listening for numerical information - practice listening in test situations - practice the language of comparison and contrast Level 6 - give a short oral presentation - use of linguistics to persuade the listener - present a position in a tutorial situation - describe company capabilities and achievements - use of visual aids in a business presentation Level 5 - learn to identify main idea of a text - learn to identify reasons and supporting facts quickly - infer meaning from a text - identify cause and effect in a text - write a text to present statistical information Level 6 - write a guided compare and contrast essay - use of formal vocabulary in writing - principles of writing a summary - use appropriate language for report writing - practice test-taking strategy 4) Independent Learning - 50 hours self-study Independent learning is the learning and practice you do outside the classroom, without your teacher. You are responsible for your own independent learning. You decide what to study and practice. In your independent learning time, you can practise the skills you want to improve. At the end of each unit you will find a checklist. You can use this checklist to think about what you have learnt in the unit and what you need to practise further. Then you can choose activities to help you.

IELTS Preparation Program International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - An Introduction IELTS has a wide recognition around the world from institutions of further and higher education, professional bodies and from both public and private bodies. IELTS also has a comprehensive scope of assessment which covers all of the four skills of English language, viz, listening, reading, writing and speaking. IELTS can be taken at 251 approved test centres in 105 countries, suitable for business executives, Form 4 student and above, including University Students. In Hong Kong, 8500 University graduates/students sat for the IELTS Exam in July For IELTS details, please go to Program Objective The IELTS Preparation course at RMIT English Worldwide is designed to provide intensive support for test candidates of both modules: Academic and General Training. This program assists participants with their preparation for the IELTS exam, either for further training purpose or to fulfill the job requirement. The program consists of 40 hours of face-to-face training plus 10 hours independent learning This program is offered as an extension to the -hour RMIT English Worldwide (REW) programs. Benefits The program familiarizes participants with the structure, as well as the question types of the IELTS exam. More specifically, at the end of the program, participants can: read, interpret and describe visual information (e.g. graphs, charts) in at least 150 words in approximately 20 minutes of a 60 minute Writing test write formal argumentative essays of at least words in approximately 40 minutes of a 60 minute Writing Test extract information from audio tapes to complete the graded tasks in a 30 minute Listening test extract information - literal and inferential - from a variety of written texts to complete three graded task in a 60 minute Readng test participate in an IELTS Speaking test, comprising interview, individual and two-way discussion, using appropriate strategies, grammar, and non-verbal behaviour Contents The program comprised four modules (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking), which directly correspond to the four tests making up the IELTS exam. The 40 hours training includes: Focus on Reading 25% (10 hours) Focus on Speaking 25% (10 hours) Focus on Writing 30% (12 hours) Focus on Listening 20% (8 hours) Program Materials Each participant will receive two students workbooks (Focus on Listening and Speaking, Focus on Reading and Writing) as its core resource. These have been produced under the copyright of RMIT English Worldwide. Designed for Executives Secondary to University students Award of Certificate Participants will undertake IELTS practice tests under exam conditions as an integral part of the program and be given feedback on their performance, utilising model answers with structured activities. Participants are required to attend 80% of all lessons and will be issued with a Certificate of Completion upon successfully completion of the program.
