Port pins that have s written to them are pulled high by the internal pullup resistors, and in that state can be used as inputs. As inputs, port pins being externally pulled low will source current (I IL, in the DC characteristics) because of the internal pull-up resistors. Port also contains the timer 2 pins as secondary function. The output latch corresponding to a secondary function must be pro-grammed to a one () for that function to operate. The secondary functions are assigned to the pins of port, as follows: P.0 T2 Input to counter 2 P. T2EX Capture - Reload trigger of timer 2 / Up-Down count Semiconductor Group

Port 3 pins that have s written to them are pulled high by the internal pull-up resistors, and in that state they can be used as inputs. As inputs, port 3 pins being externally pulled low will source current (I IL, in the DC characteristics) because of the internal pull-up resistors. Port 3 also contains the interrupt, timer, serial port 0 and external memory strobe pins which are used by various options. The output latch corresponding to a secondary function must be programmed to a one () for that function to operate. The secondary functions are assigned to the pins of port 3, as follows: P3.0 R D receiver data input (asynchronous) or data input output (synchronous) of serial interface 0 P3. 10 Table Pin Definitions and Functions (cont d) Symbol Pin Number I/O*) Function P-LCC-44 P-DIP-40 P-MQFP-44 XTAL XTAL2 Output of the inverting oscillator amplifier. XTAL XTAL Input to the inverting oscillator amplifier and input to the internal clock generator circuits. To drive the device from an external clock source, XTAL should be driven, while XTAL2 is left unconnected. There are no requirements on the duty cycle of the external clock signal, since the input to the internal clocking circuitry is divided down by a divide-by-two flip-flop. Minimum and maximum high and low times as well as rise fall times specified in the AC characteristics must be observed. P2.0 P I/O Port 2 is a quasi-bidirectional I/O port with internal pull-up resistors. Port 2 pins that have s written to them are pulled high by the internal pull-up resistors, and in that state they can be used as inputs. As inputs, port 2 pins being externally pulled low will source current (I IL, in the DC characteristics) because of the internal pull-up resistors. Port 2 emits the highorder address byte during fetches from external program memory and during accesses to external data memory that use 6-bit addresses In this application it uses strong internal pull-up resistors when issuing s. During accesses to external data memory that use 8-bit addresses port 2 issues the contents of the P2 special function register. *) I = Input O = Output Semiconductor Group

11 Table Pin Definitions and Functions (cont d) Symbol Pin Number I/O*) Function P-LCC-44 P-DIP-40 P-MQFP-44 PSEN O The Program Store Enable output is a control signal that enables the external program memory to the bus during external fetch operations. It is activated every six oscillator periods except during external data memory accesses. Remains high during internal program execution. RESET I RESET A high level on this pin for two machine cycles while the oscillator is running resets the device. An internal diffused resistor to V SS permits power-on reset using only an external capacitor to V CC. ALE/PROG I/O The Address Latch Enable output is used for latching the low-byte of the address into external memory during normal operation. It is activated every six oscillator periods except during an external data memory access. For the C50-E this pin is also the program pulse input (PROG) during OTP memory programming. EA/V PP I External Access Enable When held at high level, instructions are fetched from the internal ROM (C50-R and C50-E) when the PC is less than 2000 H. When held at low level, the C50 fetches all instructions from external program memory. For the C50-L this pin must be tied low. This pin also receives the programming supply voltage V PP during OTP memory programming (C50-E) only). *) I = Input O = Output Semiconductor Group

12 Table Pin Definitions and Functions (cont d) Symbol Pin Number I/O*) Function P-LCC-44 P-DIP-40 P-MQFP-44 P0.0 P I/O Port 0 is an 8-bit open-drain bidirectional I/O port. Port 0 pins that have s written to them float, and in that state can be used as high-impedance inputs. Port 0 is also the multiplexed low-order address and data bus during accesses to external program or data memory. In this application it uses strong internal pull-up resistors when issuing s. Port 0 also outputs the code bytes during program verification in the C50-R and C50-E. External pull-up resistors are required during program verification. 14 CPU The C50 is efficient both as a controller and as an arithmetic processor. It has extensive facilities for binary and BCD arithmetic and excels in its bit-handling capabilities. Efficient use of program memory results from an instruction set consisting of 44 % one-byte, 4 % two-byte, and 5% three-byte instructions. With a 2 MHz crystal, 58% of the instructions are executed in.0 µs 24 MHz: 500 ns, 40 MHz : 300 ns). 16 Special Function Registers The registers, except the program counter and the four general purpose register banks, reside in the special function register area. The 27 special function registers (SFRs) include pointers and registers that provide an interface between the CPU and the other on-chip peripherals. All SFRs with addresses where address bits 0-2 are 0 (e.g. 80 H, 88 H, 90 H, 98 H,..., F8 H, FF H ) are bitaddressable. The SFRs of the C50 are listed in table 2 and table 3. In table 2 they are organized in groups which refer to the functional blocks of the C50. Table 3 illustrates the contents of the SFRs in numeric order of their addresses. Semiconductor Group

24 Power Saving Modes Two power down modes are available, the Idle Mode and Power Down Mode. The bits PDE and IDLE of the register PCON select the Power Down mode or the Idle mode, respectively. If the Power Down mode and the Idle mode are set at the same time, the Power Down mode takes precedence. Table 0 gives a general overview of the power saving modes. Table 0 Power Saving Modes Overview Mode Entering Instruction Example Leaving by Idle mode ORL PCON, #0H enabled interrupt Hardware Reset Power-Down Mode Remarks CPU is gated off CPU status registers maintain their data. Peripherals are active ORL PCON, #02H Hardware Reset Oscillator is stopped, contents of on-chip RAM and SFR s are maintained (leaving Power Down Mode means redefinition of SFR contents). In the Power Down mode of operation, V CC can be reduced to minimize power consumption. It must be ensured, however, that V CC is not reduced before the Power Down mode is invoked, and that V CC is restored to its normal operating level, before the Power Down mode is terminated. The reset signal that terminates the Power Down mode also restarts the oscillator. The reset should not be activated before V CC is restored to its normal operating level and must be held active long enough to allow the oscillator to restart and stabilize (similar to power-on reset). It differs from older methods in the value used for V PP (programming supply voltage) and in the width and number of the ALE/PROG pulses. The C50-E contains two signature bytes that can be read and used by a programming system to identify the device. The signature bytes identify the manufacturer of the device. Table shows the logic levels for reading the signature byte, and for programming the program memory, the encryption table, and the security bits. The circuit configuration and waveforms for quick-pulse programming are shown in figures 0 to 2. Table OTP Programming Modes Mode RESET PSEN ALE/ EA/V PP P2.7 P2.6 P3.7 P3.6 PROG Read signature Program code data 0 0 V PP 0 Verify code data Progam encryption table 0 0 V PP 0 0 Program security bit 0 0 V PP Program security bit V PP 0 0 Notes :. 0 = valid low for that pin, = valid high for that pin. 2. V PP = 2.75 V ± 0.25V 3. V CC = 5 V ± 0% during programming and verification. 4. ALE/PROG receives 25 programming pulses while V PP is held at 2.75 V. Each programming pulse is low for 00 µs (± 0 µs) and high for a minimum of 0 µs. ) Quick-Pulse Programming TM is a trademark phrase of Intel Corporation Semiconductor Group

26 Quick-Pulse Programming The setup for microcontroller quick-pulse programming is shown in figure 0. Note that the C50- E is running with a 4 to 6 MHz oscillator The reason the oscillator needs to be running is that the device is executing internal address and program data transfers. The address of the OTP memory location to be programmed is applied to port and 2 as shown in figure 0. The code byte to be programmed into that location is applied to port 0. RESET, PSEN and pins of port 2 and 3 specified in table are held at the Program code data levels. The ALE/ PROG signal is pulsed low 25 times as shown in figure. For programming of the encryption table, the 25 pulse programming sequence must be repeated for addresses 0 through F H, using the Program encrytion table levels. After the encryption table is programmed, verification cycles will produce only encrypted data. For programming of the security bits, the 25 pulse programming sequence must be repeat using the Program security bit levels. After one security bit is programmed, further programming of the code memory and encryption table is disabled. However, the other security bit can still be programmed. Note that the EA/V PP pin must not be allowed to go above the maximum specified V PP level. for any amount of time. Even a narrow glitch above that voltage can cause permanent damage to the device. The V PP source should be well regulated and free of glitches and overshoots. Program Verification If security bit 2 has not been programmed, the on-chip OTP program memory can be read out for program verification. The address of the OTP program memory locations to be read is applied to ports and 2 as shown in figure 2. The other pins are held at the Verify code data levels indicated in table. The contents of the address location will be emitted on port 0. External pullups are required on port 0 for this operation. If the encryption table has been programmed, the data presented at port 0 will be the exclusive NOR of the program byte with one of the encryption bytes. The user will have to know the encryption table contents in order to correctly decode the verification data. The encryption table itself cannot be read out. Reading the SIgnature Bytes The signature bytes are read by the same procedure as a normal verification of loctions 30 H and 3 H, except that P3.6 and P3.7 need to be pulled to a logic low. The values are : 30 H = E0 H indicates manufacturer 3 H = 7 H indicates C50-E Semiconductor Group

32 Notes: ) Capacitive loading on ports 0 and 2 may cause spurious noise pulses to be superimposed on the V OL of ALE and port 3. The noise is due to external bus capacitance discharging into the port 0 and port 2 pins when these pins make -to-0 transitions during bus operation. In the worst case (capacitive loading > 00 pf), the noise pulse on ALE line may exceed 0.8 V. In such cases it may be desirable to qualify ALE with a schmitt-trigger, or use an address latch with a schmitt-trigger strobe input. 2) Capacitive loading on ports 0 and 2 may cause the V OH on ALE and PSEN to momentarily fall bellow the 0.9 V CC specification when the address lines are stabilizing. 3) I PD (Power Down Mode) is measured under following conditions: EA = Port0 = V CC ; RESET = V SS ; XTAL2 = N.C.; XTAL = V SS ; all other pins are disconnected. 4) I CC (active mode) is measured with: XTAL driven with t CLCH, t CHCL = 5 ns, V IL = V SS V, V IH = V CC 0.5 V; XTAL2 = N.C.; EA = Port0 = RESET= V CC ; all other pins are disconnected. I CC would be slightly higher if a crystal oscillator is used (appr. ma). 5) I CC (Idle mode) is measured with all output pins disconnected and with all peripherals disabled; XTAL driven with t CLCH, t CHCL = 5 ns, V IL = V SS V, V IH = V CC 0.5 V; XTAL2 = N.C.; RESET = EA = V SS ; Port0 = V CC ; all other pins are disconnected; 7) I CC max at other frequencies is given by: active mode: I CC =.27 x f OSC idle mode: I CC = 0.28 x f OSC +.45 (C50-L and C50-R only) where f OSC is the oscillator frequency in MHz. I CC values are given in ma and measured at V CC = 5 V. Semiconductor Group
