3 1.0 INTRODUCTION Welcome to the Netball family! Thank you for joining Netball and getting involved in our Interhouse Netball League! This is a brand new league we have set up this year especially for you so more girls are able to compete! The league we have created is focused on getting everyone involved no matter what your ability, and having fun whilst playing a game you love! (Plus the winners receive prizes!) 4 2.0 GENERAL REGULATIONS 2.1 Eligibility No previous experience is necessary and sports are open to all University of Essex students and staff. Players are allowed to play for one team per sport. Any player that participants in two teams will be banned from all Just Play activity for the term. A maximum squad size applies for all sports. All players must be registered with Shaun Conlon (Sport Development Officer). Any team caught fielding an ineligible player will be disqualified from the league with no refund. No more than one University 1 st or 2 nd team player can play in any sport. 2.2 Finding your Fixtures/Results After the entry deadline, a fixture list will be sent to all captains by including permission status for captains to access our fixtures/results software Top Tournament. Fixture lists will also be placed on the Sport Centre notice boards opposite the sports hall and updated weekly. At the end of the league season, teams that have been promoted or progressed through to the knock-out stages will be notified of details before the start of the competition. 2.3 Captains Meeting Once registered, you will be sent details of a captains meeting to be held at the Sport Centre seminar room. It is compulsory for you or another member of your team to attend this meeting. Non-attendance will result in expulsion from the league. 2.4 Continued Non- Attendance If your team does not turn up to a fixture your opponent will be awarded a walkover and will win However, continued non-attendance to league fixtures will incur the following penalties: 1 match warning 2 matches - expulsion from the league and any Just Play activity for the academic year (with no refunds available) 2.5 League Dispute In the event of a dispute. A report is to be submitted by Captains of both teams involved and from the referee/umpire where applicable. The reports must be ed to sconlon@essex.ac.uk. The Just Play committee will then decide a course of action. All Just Play entrants are bound by the Sport Centre code of conduct found in this document.

5 2.6 Duration of Match and Arrival 2.9 Referees & Respect Campaign Games are 24 minutes long. We do however allow 2 minutes for a small warm up period. Captains must report their attendance to a member of Sport Centre staff on duty before each game, and must be ready to start at the allocated time. If your team arrives after the kick-off time by 5 minutes, then the game will be void and a walkover will be awarded to the team that arrive on time. The game may be played as a friendly. 2.7 Reporting of Results Referees will write up scores on the noticeboards after the respective games; however both captains must report the score using the Top Tournament software Scoreboard At your captains meeting, you will be shown how to operate the Sport Centre scoreboard. For the week that you don t have any games, one of your members must come to the Sport Centre to operate the scoreboard. Failure to do so will result in a written warning and potentially points being deducted. Matches will be refereed by the Netball club. If any players are interested in refereeing Netball matches, please contact the Sport Development Officer sconlon@essex.ac.uk. We have pathways and opportunities for both qualified and unqualified referees! 2.10 Suspensions Teams with a poor disciplinary record or teams who are consistently reported for playing in an aggressive manner will be removed from competition and barred from entry to all future Just Play competitions. Teams whose league status is terminated shall forfeit all privileges of league status with immediate effect without any right to claim for any refund of fees Just Play Spirit Team captains should understand the spirit of Just Play and its role within the student experience at the University of Essex. Captains should avoid using University club players with the intention of creating a team that will be too strong for the opposition, particularly if this action deprives a regular squad player of a starting place. Lastly, enjoy and have fun!

6 3.0 INTERHOUSE NETBALL 3.1 Format The Netball league will consist of 1 division of 8 teams. Each team will play 7 fixtures. At the end of the season, the top two teams will go through to the Final. The Final will be on: Monday 8 th December 4-5pm The winners will receive a winner s medal and a winners t-shirt. 3.2 Netball Rules 1. All games must be played according to IFNA/AENA rules. 2. Duration of play 12 minutes each way 3. All teams must be on court ready to play at the time and on the court stated. 4. All matches will start and finish on the umpire's whistle, which will be blown immediately after the bell has rung. 7. Any team late on court will forfeit the game. Five points will be awarded to the team present on the court at the correct time. The match may be played but umpires must record on the result slip the name of the team that arrived late. 8. If a reserve starts playing because of a late arrival of a player, she shall continue to play until half time when the late arrival may substitute. 9. No team may start with less than 5 players. 10. The Referee will operate a 2 minute Sin Bin for misconduct. If a player receives two Sin Bins in one game, the player will take no further part in that game and will also receive an automatic one match suspension. 11. Late arrivals may join the game immediately after the scoring of a goal and in the vacant position. 12. The organisers decisions are final 3.3 Points Points will be awarded as follows:- 5 points for a win 3 points for a draw 0 point for the losing team if scoring over 50% of opponent goals 5. Substitutions may only be made at half time (except in the case of an injury). 6. No extra time will be allowed for accident or illness.

7 3.4 Substitutions Substitutes are allowed, but may only be used at half time or to replace a badly injured player. 3.5 Squad Teams can use a squad of up to ten. However, a team must have a minimum of 6 players on the court (at one time, or a walkover will be recorded) No new players will be allowed for any team after week 2 of the league. 4.0 EQUIPMENT All equipment is provided by the Sport Centre. If there is a clash of kit colours, bibs will be available. 5.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY 5.1 First Aid The Sports Centre Supervisors and the Sport & Recreation Officers at the Sports Centre are First Aid Qualified and will be your point of contact for any injuries / incidents. 5.2 Injuries/Incidents If any player is injured (minor or major) during an Just Play fixture please report this injury to the Sports Centre Staff on site who will assist you in treating the injured player. 4.1 Clothing and Footwear For safety reasons, no jewellery or inappropriate clothing or footwear are allowed to be worn when playing. All fixtures will be played in the Sports Centre sports hall. Please wear appropriate footwear. 4.2 Changing Facilities Changing facilities will be available at the Sport Centre For any injuries that require First Aid treatment a team representative must submit an accident report form via to the General Manager (David Gladwell) before 9am on the day after the accident. If any player is taken to hospital during an Just Play fixture or training session a team representative must inform the General Manager in person, via phone or before 9am on the day after the accident.
