1 OPERATIVE PAINTERS AND DECORATORS UNION OF AUSTRALIA The Operative Painters and Decorators Union was formed in the nineteenth century. The union was originally aimed as a craft union and has retained that tradition within the building industry at both state branch and federal level. From at least 1919 the union was known as the Coastal Painters and Paperhangers Industrial Union of Workers, Western Australia, changing its name to the Operative Painters and Decorators Industrial Union of Workers around the end of Later it changed its name to the Operative Painters and Decorators Union of Australia, Western. In 1993 the union, based on a new policy from the biennial congress of the Australian Council of Trade Unions [ACTU], became amalgamated with some other trade Australian unions. Those following unions were the Miners' Federation, the Building Workers' Industrial Union of Australia, the Australian Timber Workers' Union, and the Operative Plasterers', establishing a larger and united union. From this time onward the union was known as the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union. Sources: Minutes of meetings RESTRICTED. Access restricted for an indefinite period.
