3 INTRODUCTION Congratulations on purchasing a Gemini CDJ-10 CD Player. This state of the art professional CD player is backed by a three year warranty, excluding lasers. One year warranty on CD lasers. Prior to use, we suggest that you carefully read all the instructions. CAUTIONS Do not use this CD Player at temperatures below 41 F/5 C or higher than 95 F/35 C. Place the unit in a clean and dry location. Do not place the unit in an unstable location. When disconnecting the power cord from an AC outlet, always grasp it by the plug. Never pull the power cord. To prevent electric shock, do not remove the cover or the bottom screws. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Please refer servicing to a qualified technician. Do not use chemical solvents to clean the unit. Keep the laser pickup clean by keeping the tray closed. Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference. SAFETY CERTIFICATIONS Laser Diode Properties Material: Ga - Al - As Wavelength: nm (25 C) Laser Output: Continuous Wave, max. 0.5mW LINE VOLTAGE SELECTION Model CDJ-10 is a dual voltage unit. It will operate at 115 or 230 volts. To set the proper voltage follow these steps: 1. Place the head of a screw driver in the center of the VOLTAGE SELECTOR SLIDE SWITCH (3) found on the rear panel. 2. Slide the switch left for 115 volts or push the switch right for 230 volts. 3. Do not force or twist the switch. Excessive force may cause damage. If the switch does not move smoothly, contact a qualified technician. CONNECTIONS 1. Plug one end of a set of RCA connectors into each of the LINE OUTPUT JACKS (1). 2. Plug the other end of the RCA connectors into any available line level input jacks on your mixer. If you are playing the CDJ-10 through a receiver, you can plug the RCA connectors into the CD or AUX input jacks on your receiver. If there are no CD or AUX inputs, use any line level (not phono) inputs. FUNCTION DESCRIPTIONS POWER SWITCH: After making sure that the VOLTAGE SELECTOR SLIDE SWITCH (3), found on the rear panel, is properly set, plug the unit in and press the POWER SWITCH (2). The unit will turn on. Pushing the POWER SWITCH (2) a second time will turn the unit off. DISC TRAY: The DISC TRAY (10) is where the CD is held. Pressing the disc tray OPEN BUTTON (16) will open the tray. OPEN BUTTON: Press the OPEN BUTTON (16) to open the DISC TRAY (3). DISPLAY: The DISPLAY (4) shows the track numbers, play mode, pause mode, and 3 different time displays. These time displays are time elapsed on the track, time remaining on the disc and time remaining on the track. PLAYBACK DISPLAY: The PLAYBACK DISPLAY (5) displays the time remaining to play and flashes slowly when the track has 30 seconds left. The PLAYBACK DISPLAY (5) flashes quickly when the track has 15 seconds left. PLAY/PAUSE : Each press of the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (9) causes the operation to change from play to pause or from pause back to play. See the CUE INSTRUCTIONS section for more information. TRACK SKIP : The TRACK SKIP BUTTONS (6) let you select the track to play. SEARCH BUTTONS : The SEARCH BUTTONS (7) are used to move foward or reverse while in play mode. The SEARCH BUTTONS (7) are also used to accurately position the disc at the point where you wish the track to start playing. This position on the track is memorized as the cue point. See the CUE INSTRUCTIONS section for more information. STOP : The STOP BUTTON (11) will end the playing of the CD. TIME: The TIME BUTTON (12) switches the time display between the three available choices listed under DISPLAY. CUE: With the unit in the play mode, and after memorizing the cue point, pressing the CUE BUTTON (8) will cause the CD player to enter the pause mode at the memorized cue point. Holding down the cue button changes the cue function to preview (allowing you to hear the music play from the cue point) and releasing the cue button returns you to the preset cue point. If a cue point is not memorized, pressing the CUE BUTTON (8) will cause the unit to return to the beginning of that track. PITCH: Pushing the PITCH BUTTON (14) activates the pitch section of the unit. The pitch of the CD will change according to the position of the PITCH CONTROL (15). CONTINUOUS: The CONTINUOUS (13) function will cause the unit to play continuously (after the last track, the unit will return to the first track of the disc and continue to play). OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Make sure that the VOLTAGE SELECTOR SLIDE SWITCH (3), found on the rear panel, is set for the proper voltage. Plug the unit in and press the POWER SWITCH (2). 2. Press the OPEN BUTTON (16), place a CD in the DISC TRAY (10) and close the tray door. The display will initially show the number of tracks and the total time of the CD. 3. Push the TRACK SKIP BUTTONS (6) to select the track you want to play. 4. Press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (9) and the unit will instantly play. CUE INSTRUCTIONS 1. To start the play at a point other than the beginning of a track, follow these instructions: First choose the track you wish to play, and then press the PLAY/ PAUSE BUTTON (9) so the unit goes into the play mode. Press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (9) to pause play at the spot where you want the play to start -- the CUE POINT. Press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (9) again to save the cue point. Press the CUE BUTTON (8) to pause play at the cue point (the unit will go into the pause mode and the location indicated on the display will be the memorized cue point). You can preview the cue point by pressing and holding down the CUE BUTTON (8). Press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (9) to begin play from the cue point. Note: After a cue point is set, pressing the TRACK SKIP BUTTONS (6) clears the cue point. When you press the CUE BUTTON (8) in the new track, the beginning of that track will be the new cue point. 2. Once you have saved a cue point you can fine tune or change the memorized cue point: To change a cue point, push the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (9) so the unit plays from the cue point, then press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (9) at the spot you wish your new cue point to be. Press the PLAY/ PAUSE BUTTON (9) again to save the cue point. The unit will go into the pause mode and the location indicated on the display will be the new memorized cue point. Page 2

4 To fine tune a cue point, pause play at the memorized cue point, then use the SEARCH BUTTONS (7) to scan frame by frame (1/75th of a second) to where you want play to begin. Press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (9) to save the new cue point. Note: During fine tuning there will be a stutter effect (to help you find the beat). The stuttering effect will end when you press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (9) to save the cue point. Also, during fine tuning if you hold down the SEARCH BUTTONS (7), the unit will scan quickly after 10 frames. TROUBLE SHOOTING If the disk will not play, check to see if the disc was loaded correctly (label side up). Also check the disc for excessive dirt, scratches, etc. If the disc turns but there is no sound, check the cable connections. If they are okay, check your amplifier or receiver. If the CD skips, check the CD for dirt or scratches. Do not assume that the CD player is defective. Many CDs are recorded out of spec and will skip on most or all CD players. Before sending the unit in for repair, try playing a CD that you are sure plays properly. 7 Introduction Congratulations on purchasing a Gemini model PMX-40 mixer. This state of the art mixer includes the latest features and is backed by a three year warranty, excluding crossfader and channel slides. Prior to use, we suggest that you carefully read all the instructions. Features 2 Phono/Line Convertible, 1 Phono, 1 Line and 1 Mic input Gain controls for each channel Removable Crossfader Cue Section Cautions 4. CROSSFADER SECTION: The CROSSFADER (20) allows the mixing of one source into another. The left side of the CROSSFADER (20) is CHANNEL 1 and the right side is CHANNEL 2. The CROSSFADER (20) in your unit is removable and if the need arises can be easily replaced. Crossfader units are available in three varieties. Part # RF- 45 (which is identical to the crossfader supplied with the mixer) has a 45 mm travel from side to side. Part # RF-30 is available with a 30 mm travel distance. Also available is the PSF-45 with a special curve designed for scratch mixing. Just purchase one of these crossfader units from your Gemini dealer and follow these instructions: 1. Unscrew the outside FADER plate screws (B). Do not touch the INSIDE SCREWS (C). 2. Carefully lift the fader and unplug the CABLE (D). 3. Plug the new fader into the cable and place it back in the mixer. 4. Screw the fader to the mixer. 1. All operating instructions should be read before using this equipment. 2. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, do not open the unit. There are NO USER REPLACEABLE PARTS INSIDE. Please refer servicing to a qualified service technician. In the U.S.A., if you have any problems with this unit, call for customer service. Do not return equipment to your dealer. 3. Do not expose this unit to direct sunlight or to a heat source such as a radiator or stove. 4. This unit should be cleaned only with a damp cloth. Avoid solvents or other cleaning detergents. 5. When moving this equipment, it should be placed in its original carton and packaging. This will reduce the risk of damage during transit. 6. DO NOT EXPOSE THIS UNIT TO RAIN OR MOISTURE. 7. DO NOT USE ANY SPRAY CLEANER OR LUBRICANT ON ANY CONTROLS OR SWITCHES. Connections 1. Make sure that the POWER (22) switch is in the off position. 2. This unit comes supplied with a 15 volt AC adaptor. Plug the male pin of the adaptor into the rear panel POWER JACK (6). Then plug the adaptor into a proper power source. 3. To connect the mixer to your amplifier, use the OUTPUT AMP (1) jacks on the rear panel. 4. The unit is equipped with one microphone input. The MIC JACK (15) is a 1/4" (6.35 mm) and is located on the front panel. 5. On the rear panel are 2 stereo PHONO/LINE (3, 4) inputs, 1 stereo PHONO (5) input and 1 stereo LINE (2) input. The PHONO/LINE SWITCHES (8, 9) enable you to set the (3, 4) inputs to Phono or Line. The PHONO (5) input will accept turntable inputs only. A GROUND (7) screw for you to ground your turntables is located on the rear panel. The stereo LINE (2) input will accept any line level input like a CD player or a cassette player. 6. Headphones can be plugged into the front panel mounted HEADPHONE (26) jack. Operation 1. POWER ON: Once you have made all the equipment connections to your mixer, press the POWER (22) switch. The power will turn on and the POWER LED (21) will glow RED. 2. CHANNEL 1: The GAIN (12) control allows you to individually adjust the gain of the channel. Switch # (13) allows you to select the PHONO 1 (5) or the LINE 1/PHONO 2 (4) input. The CHANNEL SLIDE (14) controls the input level of this channel. 3. CHANNEL 2: The GAIN (23) control allows you to individually adjust the gain of the channel. Switch # (24) allows you to select the LINE 2/ PHONO 3 (3) or the LINE 3 (2) input. The CHANNEL SLIDE (25) controls the input level of this channel. Page 2 5. TALKOVER SECTION: The purpose of the talkover section is to allow the program playing to be muted so that the mic can be heard above the music. When the TALKOVER (11) button is pushed, the TALKOVER INDICATOR (10) will glow and the volume of all sources except the Mic are reduced by -16 db. LEVEL (17) controls the level of the MIC. 6. CUE SECTION: By connecting a set of headphones to the HEADPHONE (26) jack, you can monitor either channel 1 or channel 2. Select Channel 1 by moving the CUE SWITCH (19) to the left or Channel 2 by moving the CUE SWITCH (19) to the right. Use the CUE LEVEL (18) control to adjust the headphone volume without effecting the overall mix. 7. DISPLAY: The DISPLAY (16) indicates the MASTER output left and right levels.
