1 Evaluation and Audition Process Before Audition. 1. Give a list of 5 songs (and keys) 2 weeks in advance. Song List: 1) Nothing Is Impossible, 2) Awesome God, 3) Our God Is Greater, 4) Total Praise, 5) How Great is Our God. Draw from this in the audition. The songs will range in key (stretching vocal limits), speed (for tempo and rhythm variations), style (from soft rock to blues, hip/hop, etc). The songs will each let us see something different musically about the person. The person auditioning can substitute songs they know for the ones we give, but only to a point. I like to know they at least have an interest in some of the songs in our repertoire if they want to be on the team. 2. Check whether they show up on time and prepared for audition. 3. Give them the new member s application form. Give homework, write a one paragraph expressing their thoughts about what worship and worship ministry really means to them. This assignment is due on the day of audition. Day of Audition. Have them warm up. Run through scales, and find their range. Ask them which song they would like to try first from the list given, if they don't say, start with the easiest one. Have one of the section leaders sing along with them, and keyboard to see how well they can harmonize. Listen if they adjust to fit with the section leader, or whether they even know how to do that. Obviously the most important music aspect here is pitch. If they don't hold pitch, that is pretty crucial. Then we move to having them sing through a complete song. Listen for volume, breathing, annunciation, pitch, especially the pitch, because most other areas, can be corrected by pointing them out and practicing vocal exercises for the weakness. Also take note of a person s timing. Leave a little room here for unfamiliarity with the specific songs. Page 1 of 5
