2 WINTER SPORTS ENTHUSIASTS wouldn t give it a second thought to spend hundreds of pounds on a top-of-the-range ski jacket wrapping up against the elements. They are equally liberal with the cash when it comes to a good pair of goggles and a quality pair of gloves but often one of the most neglected pieces of kit is the humble sock. Ski gear should always perform like a top quality official at any sporting event, by not being noticed. If you come away talking not about the match, but about the referee, you can be reasonably certain things have not gone well. And this analogy is especially true of ski socks. And the more challenging the pursuit, the truer it is. All Horizon ski and snowboarding socks are made using the very best yarns and knitting know-how. In freezing, icy conditions it is imperative that the feet are kept warm and comfortable. By using Primaloft silver yarn, Merino wool and Isolfil polypropylene we are able to make socks that not only tick the warmth and comfort boxes but ensure the feet are kept dry and in better condition for longer. The range is knitted with a heavy Lycra elastane to give better density without the bulk and to ensure that the socks stay in place and retain their shape wash after wash. Not only are the socks durable and comfortable but they are superb value for money as well. 4 THE ' KNITTY ' GRITTY... At Horizon we go to great lengths to produce a range of winter sports socks that we believe will be every bit as important to skiers and snowboarders as butter is to hot toast. So what do we put in our socks that makes them so special? PrimaLoft Performance Fabrics are designed for next-to-skin comfort in a range of activities and conditions. They feature Primaloft s proprietary waterrepellent finish applied to fibres half the size of cashmere for unrivalled softness, dryness and breathability. In our Expert ski sock we use PrimaLoft Silver Merino Wool blend for enhanced warmth, comfort and performance. MERINO WOOL We use the finest Merino wool available as a base for all our winter sports socks. Not only is our Merino wool soft and comfortable but it does not itch and is shrink-treated to hold its size and shape. The natural wicking properties of Merino wool combined with its thermal properties make it the ideal yarn to build our sock range around. We use Nobel prize-winning polypropylene (Isolfil yarn) in the Expert and Powder socks which wicks and dries more quickly than any other man-made fibre, is durable, easily washable and odour free. Cordura is the steel of the yarn world and is now commonly used in garments to make them as durable and long-lasting as possible. With the heel and toe of any sock susceptible to wear and tear, the top-of-the-range Expert sock naturally has Cordura woven in here. To give all the socks in our range the strength and structure needed for modern, active sports socks we use Polyamide and Lycra elastane. The polyamide (or nylon as it s commonly known) gives the socks strength whilst the elastane ensures fit and shape retention wash after wash, prolonging the life of your socks and providing genuine value for money.
