28 Ontario Public Health Standards 2008 The board of health shall promote and provide provincially funded immunization programs to any eligible person in the health unit, including: Board of health-based clinics; School-based clinics (hepatitis B and meningococcal immunization); Outreach clinics to priority populations 2
29 3 HPV Expansion HPV Vaccine is now offered to girls and boys in grade 7 Since 2007 HPV Vaccine was offered to grade 8 girls HPV is a two dose vaccine in grade 7 Boys and girls who are unable to begin or complete the HPV vaccine in Grade 7 are eligible to catch-up free of charge until end of grade 12 HPV High Risk vaccine available for MSM up to age 26

31 Shingles Vaccine (Zostavax II) As of Sept. 15, 2016 Shingles publicly funded for yr olds Until December 31, 2016, individuals born in 1945 (i.e., those who are already 71 or will be turning 71 in 2016), are also eligible to receive the publicly funded shingles vaccine. 5
32 What is shingles? Infection causing painful skin rash with blisters on one side of the body Caused by re-activation of varicella zoster virus same virus causing chicken pox Complications from shingles may result in post-herpatic neuralgia (PHN) no treatment for PHN 6
33 7 Shingles Vaccine How is shingles spread? Shingles cannot be passed from one person to another You can t get shingles from being exposed to someone with shingles But the virus can be spread from a person with shingles to another person who has never had chickenpox. Who is at Risk for Shingles? The risk increases as you get older 1/3 Canadian develop shingles over their lifetime 2/3 cases are in people over 50 yrs old
