2 The state-of-the-art video and audio transmission system uses multicarrier modulation schemes to ensure a proper and disturbance-free transmission of digital data. The signals will be distributed among a large number of closelyspaced orthogonal sub-carriers. That is why the system is relatively immune to multipath distortion and signal fading and therefore ideal in urban environments, where a lot of signal reflections occur. Those reflections do not reach the receiver all at the same time, what caused considerable problems with wireless systems in the past. COFDM receivers evaluate and use all incoming signals for demodulation, so that phenomenon like ghost pictures will be avoided reliably. A direct line-of-sight between transmitter and receiver is no longer required. One of the major benefits provided by digital video transmission systems is the integrated error correction. It ensures a solid and reliable video quality and protects against dropouts and identikits. The increased use of wireless networks in private, commercial and industrial applications leads to an increase of interference and over crossing problems with analogue systems.
