1 1 SERVICE ADVISORY Date : August 9, 2004 Advisory # SV SUBJECT: RAW WATER PUMP REBUILD Description: This procedure is to rebuild the raw water pump with new bearings, washer, seal, bushings, impeller and gasket. Parts Required: Bearing (2), O-ring, Bushing (2) and Impeller Service Kit (Includes: Impeller, Seal, Cover Screw (2), Impeller Gasket and Washer). Tools Required: Screw drivers, pliers, hammer, solid metal rod, 3/4 inch deep socket, vise with rubber or plastic jaw inserts, bearing separator, jaw type gear puller, 1 1/16 inch or adjustable wrench, wooden block, 5/8 inch flat washer (Indmar Part # S565936) and an arbor press. TEARDOWN - DISASSEMBLY: 1. Remove the raw water pump from the crankshaft pulley and bracket on the engine. 2. Remove the four screws holding the front cover plate to the pump body (See Figure 1.). 3. Remove the front cover plate and gasket from pump body (See Figure 2.). Figure 1. Figure Liberally spray impeller and hub with WD-40 or similar lubricant.

2 2 5. Use two flat blade screw drivers to pry the impeller loose on the splined shaft and pliers to carefully grip and pull the impeller off the shaft (See Figure 3. and 4.). 6. Remove brass washer installed behind impeller from splined shaft. Figure 3. Figure Use a vise equipped with rubber or plastic jaw inserts to support the pump body. (CAUTION: TIGHTEN VISE ONLY ENOUGH TO FIRMLY SUPPORT PUMP BODY. PUMP BODY IS CONSTRUCTED OF BRASS AND WILL BEND AND DISTORT IF TOO MUCH PRESSURE IS APPLIED IN THE VISE!). 8. Use a solid metal bar to drive against the end of the splined shaft inside the pump body to drive the shaft, attached double bearings and mounting flange out of the pump body housing (See Figure 5.). 3 3 9. Be sure to support the mounting flange of the pump as it and the shaft and bearings drop out of pump body (See Figure 6.). 10. Remove O-ring from shaft in front of bearings (See Figure 7.). Figure 7. Figure Use socket or other tool to drive seal out from back side of pump body (See Figure 8.). Figure 9. Figure Attach a suitable bearing separator tool around shaft and under bearings (See Figure 9.). 13. Use a jaw type gear puller and grip jaws behind bearing separator tool to pull bearings off of shaft (See Figure 10.). 14. Use a wrench to remove the 2 plastic hose bushings from the pump body. 15. Thoroughly clean interior and exterior of pump body and shaft/mounting flange assy.

4 4 REBUILD REASSEMBLY: 1. Hand start a NEW Bearing onto the splined shaft being careful to align the inner race squarely onto the shoulder of the shaft (See Figure 11.). 2. Slide a 5/8 inch flat washer (Indmar Part # S565936) down over the shaft and bearing to protect the bearing as you press the bearing down onto the shaft (See Figure 12.). 3. Use a long 3/4 inch deep socket over the end of the shaft to press against the flat washer and press the bearing onto the shaft till it seats (See Figures 13. and 14.). 4. Remove the socket and flat washer and repeat steps 1-3 above to install and seat the second bearing against the first bearing on the pump shaft. Figure 11. Figure 12. Figure 13. Figure 14.

5 5 5. Lubricate a NEW O-Ring with white grease and install onto shaft against bearing (See Figure 7.). 6. Orient a NEW Seal into pump body with open side up towards inside of pump and solid or closed side of seal down to face out toward bearings (See Figure 15.). 7. Use an arbor press and 3/4 inch deep socket to press a NEW Seal into pump body till it seats just below chamfered edge of hole inside pump body and just above the outside edge of same hole on bearing side of pump body (See Figure 15.). 8. Use the arbor press with a block of wood between press plunger and pump body to press the pump body onto the bearings till they seat in pump body (See Figure 16.). Figure 15. Figure Install 2 NEW Hose Bushings into hose inlet and outlet on pump body. 10. Install a NEW Brass Washer onto pump shaft inside pump body. 11. Lubricate and install a NEW Impeller onto splined shaft in pump body (See Figures 3. and 4.). 12. Install a NEW Gasket and front pump cover with 4 screws (See Figures 2. and 1.). 13. Install rebuilt raw water pump on engine and hook up water hoses. 14. Run engine and check pump and hose connections for leaks.
