1 Cliddesden Primary School Nativity. Written by Beech Class Scene 1 (Mary stage praying in the garden) Narrator 1 A long time ago a young woman called Mary was praying in her garden. Suddenly an angel floated down from heaven, he was called Gabriel and he told Mary she was going to have a special baby. The baby would be God s son and God wanted him to be called Jesus. (Angel appears on stage) What a lovely day. Oh, a sparkly Angel. GABRIEL My name is Angel Gabriel. I have some important news. What is your name? My name is Mary. GABRIEL You are going to have a special baby called Jesus. He will be the Son of God. Oh no! GABRIEL Do not be afraid, you are the chosen one to give birth to God s son. Song 1 song to I hear thunder tune: Year 2 sing and Year 1 and R repeat. Mary, Mary, repeat/echo There s an Angel, repeat/echo You will have a baby, Repeat/echo Hold him dear. Repeat/echo. Repeat

2 (Angel off stage) Scene 2. Narrator 2 Mary was already engaged to a man called Joseph, he was a carpenter. Mary married the carpenter called Joseph and she told him she was going to have a baby. (Joseph on stage) Joseph, I have some important news for you. I m having a baby called Jesus. How do you know? An angel appeared and spoke to me. I m going to have a baby called Jesus who will be the Son of God. Oh my goodness, the baby is going to be God s Son! The angel told us not to be afraid. We shall listen to the angel, we won t be frightened, we will care for the baby Jesus. Scene 3. Narrator 3 (Musician brrrrrg a glockenspiel and donkey goes on stage) Magically a donkey appeared and Mary rode on it because she couldn t walk because of the baby and Joseph held the reins and they travelled a long way to Bethlehem, to pay their taxes. DONKEY I m so tired. I need to have some water. I need food too! (Mary and Joseph and donkey walk around the stage) Narrator 1

3 It was very busy in Bethlehem. Mary and Joseph found it very hard to find a place to stay for the night. Finally an Innkeeper said that he didn t have any rooms but he did have room in a stable. (Innkeeper and wife on stage) INN KEEPERS WIFE Husband there is someone at the door again. INN KEEPER How can I help you? My love is going to have a baby. Have you got any room in your inn? INN KEEPERS WIFE If they re asking for a room, get rid of them. INN KEEPER Sorry, I don t have any room in my inn. My wife is going to have a baby very soon. We need a place to stay. INN KEEPER I have no room at the Inn but come with me. I have a stable which is warm, dry and safe and I will put new straw down to make it comfortable for you and your wife. INN KEEPERS WIFE (whispers and shakes head) You re an embarrassment! (Inn keeper shrugs and both lead Mary and Joseph around the stage, to the stable stay and stand still for song!) Song 2: Knock at another door YEAR 1 SING ONLY We ve got no room We must confess We can t take anymore. We ve got no room so we suggest you knock on another door! Rat a tat! Rat a tat! Rat a tat- ta - tat! DUET Mary and Joseph Any room for a couple with nowhere else to stay? Any room for a couple who ve come from far away? We ve got no room We must confess

Any room for a lady we don t know what to do. We ve got no room We must confess We can t take anymore. We ve got no room so we suggest you knock on another door! Rat a tat! Rat a tat! Rat a tat- a - tat! DUET Mary and Joseph Any room for a baby Who s coming soon for sure. DUET Innkeeper and Wife All we ve got is a stable But help yourself to straw AND Thank you. We will stay here. Scene 4 Narrator 2 Meanwhile some shepherds were watching their sheep. Suddenly angels appeared and told them about Jesus and how they should follow the star. The shepherds were shocked when the angels appeared. SHEPHERD 1 Let s settle the sheep for the night. (Shepherds go off the stage to herd the Year R sheep onto the stage, where the sheep baa and jump around the stage: 2 shepherds herd half the YEAR R sheep off one side of the stage and the other two Shepherds herd the other YEAR R sheep off to the centre exit) SHEPHERD 2 Make sure the gates are shut and locked.

5 (Shepherd 1 to lock the gates both stairs) SHEPHERD 3 What a beautiful starry night. SHEPHERD 4 Is that an enormous star in the sky? SHEPHERD 2 No, look everyone it s a glowing angel! (Angel Gabriel leads the angels onto the stage stop in dance positions.) Year 1 Angels dance to Angel music at end angels go off stage. ANGEL ALL SHEPHERDS SHEPHERD 1 SHEPHERD 3 (All leave stage) Don t be afraid, I ve come to tell you that a special baby has been born in Bethlehem and he will be King. Go to Bethlehem to see the baby. Oh my goodness me! We will go and see the important baby. We will bring the fluffiest sheep skin we have to keep the new King warm. Scene 5 Narrator 1 Far away in the East Three wise men riding camels saw a big bright star. They knew it would lead them to a new king. The star led them to Bethlehem. First they went to Herod s Palace. King Herod was furious about the baby King. Herod told the three wise men to bring baby Jesus to the Palace. The Wise men decided they would not return to Herod. (Main star onto centre of the stage - Kings stand up where they are and speak pointing to the star) KING 1 KING 2 What s that glowing in the night sky? It s a huge, enormous, gigantic star in the sky. (Year 1 star dancers on stage) Song 3: Twinkling Stars Year 1 Dancers ALL: Twinkling stars, those twinkling stars

6 Twinkling stars in the beautiful night. Twinkling stars are twinkling oh so bright. YEAR R ONLY: See them gleaming, glittering, gleaming See them gleaming in the sky See them gleaming, glittering, gleaming See them gleaming oh so high ALL: Twinkling stars, those twinkling stars Twinkling stars in the beautiful night. Kings onto the stage - centre) KING 3 The star is hovering over Bethlehem, let s follow it. KING 2 An important baby is going to be born. KING 1 Shall we take some gifts? KING 3 I will bring shiny gold. KING 2 I m going to take frankincense. It smells lovely. KING 1 I m going to give myrrh. Let s go.

7 KING 2 Let s follow the shimmering star, it is shining brightly. (Main star leads Kings up the centre aisle and back) Song 4: We Three Kings of Orient Are YEAR 2 SING ONLY We three kings of Orient are Bearing gifts we traverse afar Field and fountain, moor and mountain Following yonder star O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to thy Perfect Light (Star back on stage and Kings sit down) Scene 6 (Mary, Joseph, Jesus, Angel Gabriel onto stage) Narrator 3 At last Mary had her baby on a bed of hay. 8 The baby was right beside them. Everyone came to see Jesus even the shepherds. (Shepherd on stage) The wise men brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. They thought the baby was beautiful. (Kings on stage give Jesus their gifts) Mary: I am so glad everyone came to see my baby Jesus. Joseph: Thank you very much for your gifts. King 1: He is a beautiful baby. Shepherd 1: I bring you my very best sheep skin because it will keep the special baby warm. (Shepherd to give baby sheep skin) (Everyone stand possibly more on stage, if space ideally YEAR R sheep!) Song 6: Away in the Manger Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes. I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky And stay by my bedside til morning is nigh. Scene 7 (Stands on the corner of the stage) Herod: But I m the King. I order you to find and kill the baby Jesus. Narrator 1

9 Back at the palace Herod ordered his soldiers to kill all the baby boys in Bethlehem. Luckily an angel told Mary and Joseph to go to Egypt. So Joseph took his family far away to Egypt, he made sure all his family were safe. Song 7: We wish you a merry Christmas..
