2 Exposition After all have assembled, a priest or deacon, wearing cope and humeral veil, brings the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar in a monstrance while the O Salutáris Hóstia (O Saving Victim) or other suitable song may be sung. The presiding minister then kneels before the altar and incenses the Blessed Sacrament. O Salutáris Hóstia (O Saving Victim) 2

3 Opening Prayer The presiding minister then goes to the chair, where he prays the following opening prayer. Lord, you give us the body and blood of your Son and renew our strength. Fill us with the spirit of love that we may work effectively to establish among men Christ's farewell gift of peace. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Silence All: Amen. Liturgy of the Word First Reading: Isaiah 11:1-10 Response: Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 72:1-7, Leader: In his days may righteousness flourish and peace abound, until the moon is no more. All: Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to a king s son. May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice. Leader: May the mountains yield prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness. May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the needy, and crush the oppressor. All: May he live while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations. May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth. 3

The Lord's Prayer The presiding minister then sings or says: Now let us offer together the prayer our Lord Jesus Christ taught us: All: Our Father... Benediction Please kneel and remaining kneeling until the Blessed Sacrament is reposed. At the conclusion of the Lord's Prayer, the presiding minister goes to the altar, genuflects, and then kneels. As he kneels, Tantum ergo or 6

7 another suitable Eucharistic song is sung and he incenses the Blessed Sacrament. Tantum Ergo Sacraméntum (Humbly Let Us Voice Our Homage) After the hymn is finished, the priest rises and sings or says: Let us pray. After a brief period of silence, the presiding minister continues: 7

8 Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the peace of the kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. All: Amen. After the prayer, the presiding minister puts on the humeral veil, genuflects, and takes the monstrance. He makes the sign of the cross with the monstrance over those gathered, in silence. It is appropriate to make the sign of the cross upon yourself at this point. As the presider blesses the community, the server incenses the Blessed Sacrament. Reposition After the blessing the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the monstrance and brought to the place of reservation. Meanwhile, the presiding minister may lead those assembled in the Divine Praises. The Divine Praises The presider either invites the community to repeat after him or to pray the Praises together with him.. Blessed be God. Blessed be His Holy Name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man. Blessed be the name of Jesus. Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart. Blessed be His Most Precious Blood. Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the paraclete. 8 Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy. Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception. Blessed be her glorious Assumption. Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother. Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse. Blessed be God in His angels and in His Saints. After the Divine Praises are finished, the recessional hymn is sung, and the presiding minister and the servers bow to the altar and leave.

Prayers For Peace Prayer of Pope Benedict XVI for the World Day of Peace (Jan. 1, 2007) To the Queen of Peace, the Mother of Jesus Christ "our peace" (Eph 2:14), I entrust my urgent prayer for all humanity at the beginning of the year... to which we look with hearts full of hope, notwithstanding the dangers and difficulties that surround us.
