When slings are cut, property damage and personal injury or death can result. Along with proper inspection, wear pads/sliding sleeves can help reduce the risk of cutting by acting as a buffer between the load edge and the sling. Used with steel slings, wear pads help protect both sling and load from damage along points on contact. 14 MANUFACTURING REPAIR RE-CERTIFY CUSTOM DESIGN MANUFACTURING NYLON OR POLYESTER SYNTHETIC WEBBING All webbing made is weaved in the natural color of white and our synthetic webbing is our most popular sling. It performs in almost every application and provides an economic benefit to those who have a concern with slings that become contaminated or degraded and must be replaced due to the environment it is used in. All our slings are made with Class 7 heavy duty webbing, which is made to a minimum tensile strength of 9800lbs per inch width. All our slings are manufactured and tested to ensure that a safety factor of 5 to 1 is mainainted, which is the industry standard as per ASME B30.9 and WSTDA. WHAT TYPE OF WEBBING IS SUITABLE FOR YOUR APPICATION? NYLON OR POLYESTER - What type of webbing is suitable for your application? To the naked eye, both types of webbing look similar, except that polyester is identified by either a blue or orange tracer down the middle of the webbing. Both nylon and polyester web slings yield the same rated capacities, however, each has a different reaction to certain chemicals and elongation. BASE YOUR SELECTION ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA NYLON POLYESTER Amount of stretch at rated capacity 7-11 % 3-5 % DO NOT USE IN - Acids or Bleaching Agents - Strong Acids - Strong Alkalis - Alkalis - Aldehyde or Ethers When choosing between one material or the other, consideration should be given as to what chemicals (if any) will come into contact with the webbing, and what type of head room is available which elongation of the sling under load might limit. 15 MANUFACTURING REPAIR RE-CERTIFY CUSTOM DESIGN MANUFACTURING PRODUCT WARNING INFORMATION INSPECTION AND CARE As a user of synthetic lifting slings, failure to read and understand this information may result in serious injury, death, or property damage. A sling, in new condition, has a specific rated capacity and is tagged accordingly. DO NOT exceed the rated capacity at any time and know the accurate weight of the load which is to be lifted. If exceeded, a potentially hazardous situation could occur, resulting in the probability of serious injury, death, or property damage. Inspection and Care of Synthetic Lifting Slings INITIAL INSPECTION Prior to use, all new, altered, modified, or repaired slings shall be inspected by a designated person to verify compliance with the applicable provisions of this chapter. FREQUENT INSPECTION A visual inspection for damage shall be performed by the user or other designated person each day or shift the sling is used. PERIODIC INSPECTION A complete inspection for damage to the sling shall be periodically performed by a designated person. Each sling and component shall be examined individually, taking care to expose and examine all surfaces. Periodic Inspection Frequency - periodic inspection intervals shall not exceed 1 year. The frequency of periodic inspections should be based on (1) frequency of sling use. (2) severity of service conditions (3) nature of lifts being made (4) experience gained on the service life of slings used in similar circumstances Guidelines for the time intervals are (1) normal service - yearly (2) severe service - monthly to quarterly (3) special service - as recommended by a qualified person IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL PRODUCT INFORMATION: A sling is an engineered product which must be repaired by the sling manufacturer or a qualified person. Guidance for proper use of slings or components should be obtained from the manufacturer and/or proper government and/or private industry associations responsible for manufacturing and usage specifications, regulations, or standards. Read and follow all operating instructions, and all specifications, instructions, advice, and requirements for use of synthetic slings. Use only recommended compatible components. Examine and replace any defective, worn, or deteriorated sling or lifting device. Do not exceed recommended or stated forces, speeds or other factors regarding the proper use of slings. Read and follow all warning labels, manuals, instructions, lifting sling training or experience requirements, recommendations and procedures. Never attempt to use a sling which has been prepared, repaired, assembled, or fitted by anyone other than the sling manufacturer or a qualified person. Know and examine your slings prior to each use. PRODUCT WARNING INFORMATION - INSPECTION AND CARE A written record of the most recent periodic inspection shall be maintained. DISCLAIMER Mikisew Industrial Supply Ltd.
