4 How do I apply for federal student aid? 1. Get a PIN at Your parent might need a PIN too Choose your own PIN or let the site choose one for you Don t tell anyone your PIN!
5 How do I apply for federal student aid? 2. (Optional) Use FAFSA on the Web Worksheet to get ready. Get worksheet at Find a checklist of documents you need at ( What Information Do I Need When I Fill Out the FAFSA? ). Fill out worksheet to prepare your answers.
6 How do I apply for federal student aid? 3. Fill out your FAFSA online at MUST be submitted between January 1 st and March 2 nd 2015 Need help? Use Live Help icon or call FED-AID. Don t forget to save or print confirmation page.
7 How do I apply for federal student aid? 4. Watch for response by , from FederalStudentAidFAFSA@cps .ed.gov, or by mail Double-check your information online at (use your PIN to log on) or on the paper Student Aid Report mailed to you Correct any mistakes and update any information as necessary

9 What happens next? Each school will tell you how much aid you can get at that school. Once you decide which school to attend, keep in touch with the financial aid office to find out when and how you will get your aid.
10 Cal-Grant GPA Verification Form 10 Required for Cal Grant consideration (students applying to any schools in California should submit this form, in addition to the FAFSA) Cal Grant provides FREE money to students that does not have to be paid back Information is used in conjunction with the FAFSA to evaluate whether a student qualifies for California state aid IUSD automatically submits Cal Grant information/gpas for students to the California Student Aid Commission for Cal Grant consideration The Cal Grant Guarantee: Every high school senior who has at least a 2.0 GPA, meets the basic requirements and applies on time is guaranteed a Cal Grant award to support attending a California college
11 CSS PROFILE 11 Available on the web at beginning October 1, 2014 Used by many private or independent colleges, in addition to the FAFSA, to determine financial need Check the list of schools to see if any of the colleges to which you are applying require completion Check with each individual campus for deadlines

15 Naviance & Scholarships Log into you Naviance account at select the Colleges tab scroll down to the bottom of the page, where the scholarship links are located. 15 Click on Scholarship Match or Scholarship List to view scholarships advertised by Irvine High School. Keep track of scholarships you are interested in applying to and possibly are awarded by checking the box next to the scholarship and selecting Add Selected Scholarships to My List. Click on National Scholarship Search to conduct a scholarship search through the Sallie Mae website Answer various questions to compile a database of scholarships for which you may be eligible to apply. Link directly to specific scholarship websites, access online applications, and create a Favorites list of scholarships you may pursue. Other websites like fastweb.com, finaid.org, and collegeboard.com also offer free scholarship search services.
16 More scholarship info Beware of scholarship scams You should never have to pay for scholarship information! Apply! Don t be afraid of having to do a little more work. It is worth the time and effort! 16

18 Making up the difference loans 18 If your scholarships, grants, income and savings won t cover the cost of college, experts recommend considering taking out a loan. Repaying the loan will cost you more money, but in exchange, you ll get a college education. A college education can increase your career opportunities and your future salary. Financial aid experts say that taking out a college loan as long as you borrow wisely can be an excellent investment in your future.
