1 Spring 2015 Children s Newsletter Upcoming Events and a Look Back at Fall Jan 3: Family Trip to Jackson s Museum of Natural Science and Planetarium Clothes that can get dirty Long Pants Sweatshirt or light jacket Tennis shoes Swim suit & sandals Twin sheets or sleeping bag Pillow Toiletries We will meet at 9 am in the parking lot of UBC and caravan to Jackson, MS where we will eat lunch together, see a show at the Planetarium, and visit the Museum of Natural Science. The Planetarium will be featuring : Perfect Little Planet an animated film about exploring space. The cost is $4 for kids and $6.50 for adults. Join us as we learn more about the world we live in and the creatures that inhabit this world with us! * All ages are invited to join us! RSVP to Kat by Dec 31 The Museum of Natural Science offers a variety of exciting exhibits, nature trails, and life size displays of natural habitats. The cost is $4 for kids and $6 for adults. Wear your favorite pair of pajamas and bring a stuffed animal or toy that you are willing to let spend the night in the church. Who knows what our favorite toys get up to when we re not around! 2 Page 2 Feb 28: Hope House Cook your favorite breakfast dish, slice up some fruit, bake a batch of biscuits, or pick up some muffins and join us as we feed our homeless neighbors. The children of UBC join with the children of Ekklesia at Hope House learning to serve, being part of a wider community this Saturday morning, experiencing God s love in big ways. We will gather at 9am: 1105 West Pine Street, Hattiesburg Be ready to serve at 9:15. Sign up with Caroline! Feb 22 & May 17: Sunday School at Bedford Care Journey with us to hear, experience, and wonder about the stories of God with the residents of Bedford Care. Enjoy a feast with our neighbors just down the street and find a new friend who has stories and experiences different from your own. We will meet at 9:15 in the Fellowship Hall both mornings and make our way to Bedford Care. We will be back at the end of the Sunday School hour. Let Kat know if you can go! *Includes both Godly Play Classes

3 Page 3 March 21: Fieldhouse for the Homeless Our children will travel to Fieldhouse for the Homeless, a resource and day center, to build and plant gardens that will grow fresh fruits and vegetables to feed the hungry. The Fieldhouse for the Homeless provides a safe haven from the danger, uncertainty, and indignity of living on the streets. Our mission is to provide barrier free services to empower those who find themselves in a desperate situation. The Fieldhouse has become a hub for the homeless in the Hattiesburg/Pine Belt area. Meet in the UBC parking lot ready to go by 9 am with a pair of gardening gloves, ready to work! We will plan to work on the garden project until noon and end our day with a lunch together. Sign up with Kat! *This event is for kids 4 years old up thru those in fifth grade. April 10-11: McDowell Farm Retreat UBC s older kids will leave the UBC parking lot at 5pm on Friday for an overnight weekend retreat. We will eat together, explore the farm, meet the animals, look at the stars, play games, and hear one another as we think about the stories of God and our place in them and in this world. Saturday morning, families are invited to join us at the farm for a morning of fun. Enjoy going out on the paddle boat, playing in the sand pile, checking out the farm animals, and more! Saturday family time will be 9-11 am. Contact Kat to sign up and for more information. *Overnight for 1st-5th graders. April 25: Geocaching Join us on a real world, outdoor treasure hunt!! Where we ll go to be determined. What we ll find you ll have to wait and see. What we ll leave behind is up to us! Let s search together, let s imagine together, and let s decide what to leave of ourselves for the next person to find! Meet in the UBC parking lot at 9am ready for an adventure, ready to explore, ready to work together, to think and to get turned around as we search for our treasure! 4 Page 4 May 16: Spring Festival 11:30-2:00pm Come out and enjoy live music, good food, and fun. We will have burgers catered by Mugshots. Tickets are $10 each for adults; children eat free! Music by 9,000 Miles, featuring Sharon Miles and Toby Barker. *This Saturday Festival will take place on UBC s front lawn; all are invited to and encouraged to bring friends! Call the church office to reserve meal tickets. And a Giant Water Slide for children and anyone else who wants to cool off! Feel like a kid again and join us this Saturday ready to have fun!
