2 Anyone over the age of 55 is eligible to attend the Senior Center and take advantage of the beautiful facility provided by the county. There is no fee to join. All you need to do is to come and join in the fun and fellowship!!

3 The Stephens County Senior Center is a place where older adults in our community can come together for services and activities that reflect their experience and skills, respond to their diverse needs and interests, enhance their dignity, support their independence, and encourage their involvement within the center and the community.

4 The Stephens County Senior Center has 5 employees. 2 full time and 3 part time.

5 Mission Statement The Stephens County Senior Center strives to enhance the lives of senior citizens in Stephens County, through wellness, support, nutrition, education, independence, activities, and fun.

6 Health & Wellness Programs Seniorcise, low impact aerobics classes, an exercise room, weekly blood pressure checks, Health Fairs, and programs by Dr. s and various health care professionals.

7 Support Transportation to Senior Center activities for seniors who are unable to drive. Legal Aid, referrals to available community resources to meet the individuals needs, Cancer Support Group and Mental Health Support Group.

8 Nutrition Each Tuesday lunch is served at the nominal cost of $3.00, nutrition programs to help manage diet restrictions/ changes.

9 Education Programs based on Safety, Identity Theft, etc. Monthly AARP meetings, AARP Defensive Driving courses, Computer Classes, information on insurance, Medicaid/Medicare, participate in the National Memory Screening and participate in the Commemorative Candle Lighting to promote Alzheimer s Awareness and much more.

10 Independence Meals on Wheels are delivered to homebound Senior Citizens so that they can remain in the home as long as possible.

11 Activities Bingo, Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Auctions, Movies, Quilting Club, Crotchet Classes, Pinochle, Bridge, Senior Dances, Dulcimer Classes, Cake Walks, Crafts, and more.

12 Fun Holiday Celebrations, Shows & Skits, Day & Overnight trips, Senior Bazaars, Games Craft Fairs, etc.

13 Meals on Wheels Stephens County Senior Centers Most Important Program:

14 It is the mission of the Stephens County Senior Center to continue to make every effort possible to serve all eligible participants under the meals on wheels program

15 Meals on Wheels (i.e. Food & Provisions) is our largest budget line item. The funding of this program is a combination of county government dollars and also private donations by participants, individuals and organizations within our community.

16 Eligible Criteria for the Meals on Wheels Program The recipient must be 60 years of age or older and homebound. This means the recipient is not able to leave his/her home except for hospital, clinic, or Dr. visits. In extenuating circumstances, the age criteria can be waived by the center director. In this instance all other criteria must be met.

17 The recipient must be unable to drive an automobile. The recipient must be unable to prepare a meal, and there must not be anyone in the home capable of preparing food. This includes caregivers/sitters. The recipient must be a resident of Stephens County

18 Priority for meals will be given to those individuals in which the referral for services is made by a medical provider. It is the responsibility of the recipient of the meals to notify the center of relocation. It is also the responsibility of the recipient to notify the center when you will not be at home due to doctor/hospital visits. If the recipient is not at home for more than 2 days and has not notified the center, meals will be discontinued.

19 Volunteers The program would not be possible without our volunteers. They are Church Groups/ Sunday School Classes, Civic Groups, Businesses, Community Service Workers', and Individuals.
