Scope - Dimensional and other requirements for cervical punch biopsy forceps used in obstetrics.!. Shape and Dimensions -As shown in Fig. 1.!.l A deviation of f 2 5 percent shall be allowed on all dimensions, I. Material - Stainless steel conforming to Designation 40Cr13 for the cutting jaws and 20Cr13 or IOCr13 for the rest, of IS : Specification for stainless steel bars and flats. 1. Workmanship and Finish 1.1 The forceps shall be free from scale, burrs, pits, tool marks and other surface defects. 1.2 All edges shall be smoothly rounded off except the cutting edge. 1.3 The jaws shall open and close fully and freely without any stiffness. 1.4 Forceps shall be polished bright and passivated. 5. Heat Treatment 5.1 The forceps shall be hardened and tempered to give a hardness of 400 to 460 HV. The cuttinc jaws shall have a hardness of 540 to 600 HV. 6. Tests 6.1 Performance -The forceps punch shall be made to punch a card-board sheet l/2 mm thick The forceps shall do this easily and cleanly. This shall be repeated 10 times. During or or zompletion of the test, the cutting edges of the forceps shall show no sign of damage. 6.2 Flexibility Test - The flexibility shall be tested in the following manner The jaws shall be made to bite a piece of firm rubber about I.5 mm thick and the fingel oops cl&sed as fully as possible. On release, the forceps shall not show any sign of damage or tht upper jaw shall not become loose at its hinge A force of moderate degree by the fingers shall be applied to the shank attempting to bent the shank on the width. This shall be repeated at several points along the shank. The test shal then be repeated in a plane at right ahg,@ to the first. On completion of the test, the shank shal not have acquired permanent set. - ; 6.3 Corrosion Resistance -The instrument shall safisfqcthe boiling and autoclaving test as in IS : Method of boiling and autoclaving test for corrosion resistance of stainless stee surgical instruments. 6.4 Subject to agreement between the purchaser and th- supplier the instrument may be put to the following test: Copper Sulphate Test - Scrub the sample with soap and warm water, rinse in hot water and then dip in 95 percent ethyl alcohol. Dry the sample. Immerse in copper sulphate solution ai room temperature for 6 min and wash off with fresh water or wet cotton wool. Composition oi the solution shall be as follows: Copper sulphate ( CuS0,.5H,O ) 4.0 g Sulphuric acid ( H,SO, j ( sp gr 1 84 ) 10 0 g Distilled water [ see IS :; Specification for water, distilled quality ( revised ) ] 90 0 ml No red stains or spots on the sample shall be allowed but dulling of the polished surface ma) be permitted.
