AIFS REFERS TO SMALL FLOWERS AIFM REFERS TO MEDIUM FLOWERS AIFL -- REFERS TO LARGE FLOWERS The letters after numbers eg: A B C D E F Refer to the sequence in which leaves and / or petals are embroidered in and the sequence in which they are laid down to assemble the flower. always alternate your petals and leaves when placing them down for final assembly. Clematis 101 (three sizes) - d file is final file for assembly. Color number 1 is the placement guidelines on which you place petals. Color 2 is brown which is fringe embroidery for the stamen, and color 3 is gold for the centre of flower. See tutorial for directions on fringe embroidery. Aster 102 (three sizes) - with this flower you have two differnet options for the center of your flower. File f refers to doing the centre of your flower with crafters foam to give the centre additional dimension. File g is for regular embroidery only. See tutorial for directions on foam embroidery. For f file using foam the first color is the placement guideline on which you place leaves and petals. Color 2 will be gold color embroidery and color 3 will be brown where foam is used. For g file color 1 is the placement guidelinge for leaves and petals. Color 2 is brown centre and color 3 is gold around center. Lily 103 (three sizes) d file is final file for assembly. Color 1 is the placement guideline for leaves and petals. Color 2 is green for the stamen which is done in fringe embroidery, see tutorial for directions on fringe embroidery. With the lily you can leave fringe as is or you can use glue to give the stamen a more defined look (see tutorial for directions). Cosmos 104 (three sizes) - e file is final file for assembly. Color 1 is placement guideline for leaves and petals. Color 2 is embroidery for centre of flower and color 3 is highlight color on top of color 2. Poppy 105 (two sizes) e file is final file for assembly. Color 1 is placement guideline for leaves and petals. Color 2 is gold fringe embroidery for stamen. (see tutorial for directions on fringe embroidery). Color 3 is embroidery for centre of flower and color 4 is highlight color on top of color 3. Erysimum 106 (three sizes) c file is final file for assembly. Color 1 is placement guideline for petals and color 2 is pale green embroidery for center of flower. Rose 107 (two sizes) g file is final file for assembly. Color 1 is placement guideline for leaves and petals. Color 2 is light gold embroidery and color 3 is highlight color on top of color 2. Sunflower 108 (two sizes) f file is final file for assembly. Color 1 is centre placement line for leaf. Color 2 is the placement line for file b and c (petals). Color 3 is placement line for file d and e (petals). See tutorial for directions. Color 4 is centre of flower embroidery. Color 5 is embroidery around the center. Color 6 is same as color 4 this color gives the center more detail.
1) Lay down Organza fabric. On top of this place a piece of water soluble backing (dissolve-away/washaway). On top of the washaway place another piece of Organza fabric. You can use the same color Organza for both pieces or for a more creative effect place a darker color Organza for top layer and a lighter color on the bottom or vice versa. When doing petals on flowers with many layers such as the rose you can even use varying shades of same color for different petals. Let your creativity blossom. 2) Hoop all three pieces (for leaves if flower has leaves) 3) Embroidery leaves and remove from machine (remember to change bobbin to match bottom Organza color) 4) Repeat this process for the petals remembering to change bobbin color to match bottom Organza color.
5) Optional you can be even more creative with your petals with the use of Heat Bondable Angelina fibers. This adds extra sparkle and texture to the petals. On a sheet of paper or on the Teflon non-stick ironing and craft sheet spread the fibers. Place a second sheet of paper on top of fibers and iron at wool setting. Lift top sheet and remove sheet of Angelina fabric that you have created. Use this as your top layer of Organza and hoop and proceed as instructed above. 6) Remove leaves and petals from hoop and cut as closely as possible to embroidered border without cutting into the stitching. 7) Once leaves and petals have been cut out take your hot soldering iron and gently trace the outside edge of border without cutting the stitching. The leaves and petals have a circle of stitching in the center. This will be your placement line for putting your flower together. You must hollow out the center with the soldering iron. Beware the soldering iron is hot.
8) Hold your leaves and petals under warm gently running tap water until the washaway fabric in the center is dissolved. 9) Lay your leaves and petals on a flat surface to dry naturally or if you prefer you can use a blow dryer to hasten the process. 10) Hoop piece of Cut Away backing 11) Place hoop into machine and embroider the first color for the center of your flower. The first color will always be the placement lines on which you center all of your leaves and petals. Remove from machine. 12) Place the first leaf you embroidered on your center line using the hollowed section for placement. Use invisible tape at edges of leaf to hold in place. Repeat process with next leaf or petal (whichever is applicable to flower you are doing). Remember that you must alternate placement of layers. a b c d
13) Return hoop to machine and embroider remaining colors on file. This will attach all of the pieces together. 14) Remove from machine and gently remove all of the pieces of invisible tape used to hold leaves and petals in place. 15) Remove from hoop and cut the cut away fabric from back of flower you have created. Cut closely but do not cut into the embroidery. If your leaves and petals are lying too flat, simply take a small spray bottle filled with water and lightly mist the flower. You can then shape it however suits you.
SPECAIL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SOME OF INDIVIDUAL FLOWERS. A. CLEMATIS 101, LILY 103 and POPPY 105 have Fringe embroidery for the stamen in the center where it is held together. Once you have trimmed the cut away backing from bottom of flower turn it upside down to gain access to the white bobbin stitches. Cut the white bobbin stitches with small sewing scissors, while being careful not to cut through the fabric. Flip flower over so it is right side up and pull fringe stitches free with the tip of your sewing scissors or nail of index finger. B. ASTER 102 We have supplied two files for the center of this design. You can opt for regular embroidery or use foam embroidery which will add dimension to the center of the flower. The foam option is done as follows: Place hoop with assembled leaves and petals in machine and embroider the first color gold. Cut out two small pieces of crafters foam, which you will place over the center on top of each other. Carefully hold outside edges in place for first few stitches and them finish embroidery. Remove from machine and gently peel away what is left of the foam. We have included photos of the Aster center done with foam embroidery and embroidery only.
SPECAIL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SOME OF INDIVIDUAL FLOWERS. C. LILY 103 fringe embroidery has been used for the stamen of this flower. Follow instructions shown in A for the fringe. Here you have the option to leave the fringe as is, or you can give the stamen a more defined look by using clear non toxic adhesive glue. Apply a small amount to your index finger. Take a group of fringe between your index finger and thumb and swirl the entire length to give the group fringe a more solid appearance. If your lily is lying too flat take your spray bottle with water and mist the flower. Shape the flower and use clothes pegs at the bottom of the petals to make them stand up. Allow to dry naturally and remove clothes pegs. Enclosed are photos of Lily with fringe and fringe that is more defined. D. POPPY 105 This flower has fringe embroidery for the stamen in center of the flower. Follow instructions shown in A for the fringe. The large petals of the poppy have a tendency to lay flat. To remedy this take your spray bottle with water and mist the flower. Shape the flower and use a clothes peg at the bottom of the petals to make them stand up. Allow to dry naturally and remove clothes peg.
SPECAIL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SOME OF INDIVIDUAL FLOWERS. E. ROSE 107 Of all the flowers this one has the most petals. Make sure that you place the petals on top of the leaf in the sequence you embroider them. Embroider the center and remove hoop from machine. Carefully remove all the layers of invisible tape from leaf and petals. Trim the cut away backing from bottom of flower. Due to the number of layers the rose has a tendency to lay flat. To remedy this lift the top layers of the petals and hold together with a clothes peg. Take thread doubled up (same color as your petals) and tie around the bottom to hold in place. Make sure you knot thread securely. This can be repeated for the next layer or two; depending on how closed you want your rose to appear. You can further shape your rose by misting with your spray bottle of water, and a clothes peg at the bottom layer of petals. Allow to dry naturally. F. SUNFLOWER Embroider your placement guide on the cutaway backing, line up your sunflower leaf and tape down with the invisible tape. Place hoop back in machine and run second placement line on top of the leaf. Remove hoop from machine and line up the top of the bottom petal. Tape down with invisible tape, and then line up the bottom of the bottom petal. Tape down and return hoop to machine. Now you will run your third placement line on top of the bottom layer of petals. Remove hoop from machine and line up top of the top petal. Tape down with invisible tape. Line up the bottom of the top petal with placement line and tape down with invisible tape. Return hoop to machine and finish the center embroidery for the sunflower.
