5 1 Introduction This document provides the guide about how to setup Gobi development environment in Linux OS. We take Ubuntu as an example to present the guild. Other Linux distribution users can also refer to this document. 2 Build and install driver 2.1 Build and install driver. (1) Extract GobiNet.zip to your workspace. unzip GobiNet.zip (2) Build driver cd GobiNet && make Driver is built successfully and you can go to next step if you find GobiNet.ko in current directory. (3). Install driver sudo modprobe usbnet sudo insmod GobiNet lsmod It seems driver is installed successfully if you find GobiNet and usbnet. 2.2 Connect and check driver works ok. (1) Connect the SIM7100 by physical USB interface and power on the modem. (2) Open the terminal and type the shell command lsusb. SIM7100 Setup Gobi Development Environment In Linux V /09/04

6 (3) Our Modem is recognized by Ubuntu by USB interface(vid=1e0e,pid=9001) (4) List the devices by ls -l /dev/qcqmi* If you find /dev/qcqmi1, the device driver is OK! As an aside, if you type ifconfig, you will find a new interface(eth1) created. 3 Build and install libraries 3.1 Build and install GobiAPI libraries. Your application has to invoke methods in these libraries to communicate with the SIM7100, so you have to build them first. (1) Extract GobiAPI_ (simcom).tar.gz to your workspace. tar zxvf GobiAPI_ \(simcom\).tar.gz SIM7100 Setup Gobi Development Environment In Linux V /09/04

7 (2) Build and install libraries. cd GobiAPI_ make sudo make install (3) Check libraries generated. Type ls lib*, you will find: 4 Setup Your Application Development Environment (1) Copy libraries to the directory your application lies cp libcore.a libgobiconnectionmgmt.so ${APPLICATION-DIR} (2) Copy header files to the directory your application lies cp simcom/gobiconnectionmgmtapi.h ${APPLICATION-DIR} cp simcom/gobiconnectionmgmtapienums.h ${APPLICATION-DIR} cp simcom/gobiconnectionmgmtapistructs.h ${APPLICATION-DIR} cp simcom/gobi3000translation.h ${APPLICATION-DIR} (3) Make sure the header files copied in step 2 is from simcom directory instead of GobiConnectionMgmt (4) Write your source code, don t forget: #include GobiConnectionMgmtAPI.h #include GobiConnectionMgmtAPIStructs.h #include Gobi3000Translation.h You don t need include GobiConnectionMgmtAPIEnums.h, but still have to copy it to your application directory, because it is included in GobiConnectionMgmtAPIStructs.h (5) You must have been aware that function GobiConnect should be invoked before communicate with SIM7100, please remember the value of the first parameter pinterface must be the absolute path of the device after installed driver GobiNet, such as /dev/qcqmi1. (6) When build your application, don t forget contain lcore lgobiconnectionmgmt in SIM7100 Setup Gobi Development Environment In Linux V /09/04

8 your makefile. 5 Connect Network Without GobiAPI Lib GobiAPI provides a powerful library to help your application make use of all functions that modem provides, so it is definetily that you could connect network via its api. However, some users may think GobiAPI is too big, and they don't need all functions but data service. For their convient, we put the job connects network into GobiNet driver, so your application just need to do a little work and we provide you a sample which will tell you what you should do. The reference code in archive ndis_manager.zip. 6 Notice (1) If you get error bits/predefs.h:no such file or directory when build libraries above. (2) sudo apt-get install gcc-multilib (3) If your GobiConnect always failed and return 10 Please check if you have permission to access /dev/qcqmi* (4) If you want to Check the debug information of libraries Modify line 4 in Makefile in directory GobiAPI_ , add or delete D DEBUG to enable or disable the debug feature.
