8 4085-DR-NY As of Distribution of Supplies to Disaster Survivors The commodities Points of Distribution (PODs) were designed as centralized locations where the public could pick up life sustaining goods following Hurricane Sandy, including shelf-stable food, cots, tarps, blankets, infant and toddler kits, medical supplies and water. These PODs provided more than 3.2 million meals, 2.4 million liters of water and 210,000 blankets to Sandy survivors. 15 Before-and-after videos Breezy Point Breezy Point, NY Many homes in Breezy Point were lost to flooding, strong winds and the blaze that swept the Queens neighborhood during Hurricane Sandy. The resilient community is on its way to recovery. Subways and tunnels New York, NY Subways and tunnels were severely affected by the storm. The Army Corps of Engineers pumped 270 million gallons from subways and tunnels in two weeks. Debris removal New York, NY Nearly 5.7 million cubic yards of debris from Sandy has been removed by local and state agencies and the Army Corps of Engineers.
