7 Page 5 Seating principles Sitting correctly the child is able to take part in everyday activities. Children with special needs require special seating in order to have the correct support. Supported correctly the child is free to move and can interact with their peers. Some children might not be able to change position themselves. Therefore, it is very important that the seating system is adjustable - e.g. the tilt in space and recline functions. Further it is important to notice that the bests possible seating position: maintains bodily functions such as digestion and respiration minimises fatigue and promotes functional activity maximises independence, communication and activity A good seating position must: promote correct posture prevent pressure points be comfortable be supportive A well-fitted seating postion gives: stability comfort adequate and essential support freedom of movement the user the ability to interact with peers Head - arms - hands MOVEMENT Trunk - shoulder - head STABILITY + MOBILITY = BALANCE Pelvis, thighs, feet placement = STABLE BASE Three core elements Stable base Proper support of the pelvis, thighs and feet forms the foundation for stability. The back is lockable which could be preferred in feeding situations and required when being used in transportation. The back can also be angled to make it possible to seat the child with either an open or closed hip angle. The Active seat is for the active children who need more freedom of movement. The Panda Futura Standard is available in 5 sizes accomodating children aged approx. 1 to 12 years. The Panda Futura Standard is only available by special order in the U.S. The Panda Futura is available in 4 sizes as an Active version and will accomodate children aged approx. 1 to 12 years.
