16 New International Efficiency classes of motors IE code The new IEC 634-3:28 defi nes worldwide the effi ciency classes of motors. IE1 = Standard Effi ciency (comparable to EFF2) IE2 = High Effi ciency (comparable to EFF1) IE3 = Premium Effi ciency The effi ciency levels according to IEC are measured based on the test methods defi ned in IEC :27. The IEC only defi nes requirements of effi ciency classes and aims to create provisions for International consistency. It does not defi ne which motors must be supplied with which effi ciency level. This is left to respective regional legislation.
