1 Sand Dunes Early Learning Centre Under Three Daily Routine TIME TASKS 7.00am 8.00am Children & families arrive & are welcomed breakfast/bottles available. 8.30am Inside/Outside play (daily weather permitted). 9.00am Nappy check/change. 9.00am Tidy up time and morning mat time. 9.15am Wash hands for morning tea. 9.40am Morning sleepers are put to bed am Child initiated/teacher facilitated experiences begins. Inside/Outside play(daily weather permitted) am Tidy up time and lunch time mat time am Wash hands for lunch am Nappy check/change. 12 noon Midday sleepers put to bed am Child initiated/ teacher facilitated experiences. Inside/ Outside play (daily weather permitted). 2.00pm Tidy up time and afternoon mat time. 2.15pm Wash hands for afternoon tea. 3.00pm Inside/Outside play. Nappy check/change. 5.00pm Tidy up time, mat time, washing hands and a late snack. 6.00pm Home time and centre closes Note: Bottles and sleep times are given as per individual child s routine.

2 Teacher Roles The following pages contain each of our teacher roles at Sand Dunes Early Learning Centre under 3s. Each teacher has a shift, a duty and a specific time for their lunch break. Each staff member is entitled to two fifteen minute breaks each day as well as 1hr lunch break. SHIFT DUTY LUNCH 7.00am 4.00pm Babies 11.00am 12.00noon 8.00am 5.00pm Nappy 12.00noon 1.00pm 9.00am 6.00pm Toddlers 1.00pm 2.00pm

4 BABY TEACHER Supervise and care for the babies Feeding food Feeding bottles Sleeping Teaching Duties 1. Supervise and interact with the babies in the Under 2 room. 2. Supervise and interact with the babies when they are outside. 3. Let the nappy teacher know if the babies need their nappies changed. 1. Feed babies at allocated times or when hungry (check for allergies etc). 2. Record what the babies eat in their notebooks. 1. Feed babies their bottles at allocated times or when they are hungry. 2. Record the time and the amount they had in their notebooks. 3. Feed and interact with babies during feeding times. Meal time is a social time for conversations, singing and book reading. 1. Put the babies to sleep when they are tired or as per their routine. 2. Record the time and how long the baby slept for in their notebooks. 1. Greet and communicate with all parents, discuss infant s needs and daily progress. 2. Write in the individual note book on the infant s daily progress and temperament. 3. Plan and implement appropriate learning experiences (inside and outside) daily including tummy times, sensory play, music and

5 heuristic play. Document on daily experiences board. 4. Provide a tidy, nurturing, inviting and stimulating environment that promotes independence, trust and self esteem. 5. Be on infants/ toddlers level participating as equal partners playing alongside them using communication (verbal and non verbal), praise and encouragement.

6 NAPPY TEACHER Change nappies Help the baby teacher Cover breaks Teaching duties 1. Check nappies regularly changing when necessary and at required times. 2. Document all nappy changes and checks. 3. Write next to the children s name on the sign in/out chart when they require more nappies. 4. Complete regular daily cleaning duties (checklist situated on the nappy changing wall). 1. Help care for the babies when needed 1. Take over from the baby or toddler teacher when they are on a break 1. Greet and communicate with all parents, discuss infants and toddlers needs and daily progress. 2. Provide a tidy, nurturing, inviting and stimulating environment that promotes independence, trust and self esteem. 3. Be on infants/ toddlers level participating as equal partners playing alongside them using communication (verbal and non verbal), praise and encouragement. 4. Plan and implement the weeks mat times (9.00am and 2.00pm). 5. Upload daily photos and contribute daily to the daily reflections book.

7 TODDLER TEACHER Supervise and care for the toddlers Teaching Duties Transition toddlers into the over 2 s 1. Supervise and care for children. 2. Let the nappy teacher know if children need their nappy changed. 3. Take over nappy teachers role while on lunch. 1. Plan and implement appropriate learning experiences (inside and outside) daily encouraging creativity, exploration and independence. Document on daily experiences board. 2. Spend time in the over two environment with the toddlers during free play times. 3. Participate with toddlers in over two morning mat times. 6. Greet and communicate with all parents, discuss infants and toddlers needs and daily progress. 7. Provide a tidy, nurturing, inviting and stimulating environment that promotes independence, trust and self esteem. 4. Be on toddlers level participating as equal partners playing alongside them using communication (verbal and non verbal), praise and encouragement. 1. Take the toddlers through to the over 2 area for settling as per the transition policy.

8 E.O.D Duties End of Day Duties Sleep room duties Bottles General tasks 1. Make all cots up (change linen on a Wednesday). 2. Put all sleeping bags on individual cots. 3. Tidy sleep room. 4. Open curtains and turn all heaters off. 5. Refresh sleep charts. 1. Wash and sterilise all bottles. 2. Put bottles into steriliser, add 200mls of water and put into microwave for 5 mins. 1. Refresh nappy charts. 2. Ensure children s note books are up to date. 3. Empty rubbish bags. 4. Clear window ledges of rubbish, unnecessary items. 5. Clear all washing and maintain the laundry. 6. Help over twos with kitchen, laundry duties and other general tasks. 7. Turn the radio off. 8. Wipe down yellow table. 9. Tidy all toys into correct places. 10. Pull out the shelves to check to toys fallen underneath etc.

Fill bottles with water jug stored in the staff room fridge. 2. Boil jug and refill the jug with boiled water after use. 1. Check overall warmth of under two areas. Use heaters if necessary. 2. Set up morning/ settling activities i.e. play dough, chalk drawing, musical play, puzzle play. 3. Sort artwork and file. 1. Set up environment. 2. Put chairs out. 3. Laundry duties. 4. Communication whiteboard. 5. Osh registers. 6. Check environment for hazards. 7. Feed animals. 8. Clear phone messages. 1. Serve breakfast. 2. Unstuck dishwasher. 3. Clear away breakfast including sweeping and dishes done.

Nappy check/change. Tidy up time. Children are encouraged to tidy up alongside the teachers inside and out. Morning Mat time. Children wash hands for Morning tea. Teachers eat with the children. Over threes split into two developmental groups (Puratoke and Tauira)for child initiated/ teacher facilitated play experiences. Children have a choice of play experiences including different learning areas and teachers will provide developmentally appropriate experiences in large, small groups and one on one. Toilet training and nappy change. Tidy up time. Children are encouraged

The children engage in drama and storytelling, music and movement, puppets, book reading, singing, action songs, instrument play, finger plays, rhyming games, counting games, magnetic stories, guessing games, sharing times, news times, social and listening skills, dancing, brain gym and discussion times. Puratoke and Tauira come together for washing hands and Lunch. Over three s split into two developmental groups (Puratoke and Tauira) for child initiated/ teacher facilitated experiences. Inside/ Outside play (daily weather permitted). Children have a choice of play experiences including different learning areas and teachers will provide developmentally appropriate experiences in large, small groups and one on one. School preparation begins for one group. Toilet training and nappy change. Midday sleepers put to bed. Quite time for transition sleepers. Toilet training Nappy check/change. Tidy up time. Children are encouraged to tidy up alongside the teachers inside and out. Groups come together for afternoon mat time. Children wash hands for afternoon tea. Child initiated/ teacher facilitated experiences. Inside/ Outside play (daily weather permitted). Children have a choice of play experiences
