1 UNIVERSITY GAMES 2013 INDOOR VOLLEYBALL RULES (Divisions: Men & Women) These championships are conducted in accordance with the official rules of the FIVB and the regulations of Volleyball NZ with the following exceptions and competition clarifications: 1. TEAM FORMAT 1.1 Each team shall name a squad not exceeding twelve (12) players. 1.2 Each captain/manager shall confirm their squad with the Tournament Directors prior to the start of the competition at the Sport Technical Meeting. 1.3 The six (6) starting players must be named for each match with the rest of the squad named as reserves. 1.4 There must be six players on court at the designated time to start the match, without incurring a forfeit. 1.5 Libero Rule applies as per FIVB VB and adapted for NZ environment. Each team has the right to designate from the list of players on the score sheet ONE specialised defensive player in their line up. They will remain the libero for each game. 2. MATCH PLAY 2.1 All games shall apply the rally point system 2.2 Matches will be the best of five (5) sets, first four sets to twenty-five (25) and the fifth set to fifteen each of them with a minimum lead of two (2) points. 2.3 Official court warm up / or net-time shall be ten (10) minutes total for both teams or 5 minutes per team. Net time starts ten (10) minutes before the scheduled start time of the match. This may be combined, allowing 10 minutes total per team, but only if both teams agree. 2.4 Substitution Rule: 12 substitution rule applies. Page 1 of 4

2 PROTESTS Where a team wishes to lodge a protest during a match (i) The Captain must indicate to the 1st Referee that a protest is being lodged (ii) The match will be frozen & the Tournament Directors will adjudicate with other delegates/representatives of the tournament. This adjudication is final and binding. Please note: Due to exceptional circumstances match durations may need to altered, match durations will be confirmed at the sport s technical meeting prior to the start of competition. 3. POOL AND ROUND ROBIN POINTS 3.1 Points for each pool or round robin match: Match Points shall be allocated as follows: Win 3-0 or points Win points Loss point Loss 1-3 or points Forfeit 0 points 4. RESOLVING TIE AT COMPLETION OF POOLS 4.1 In the event that two or more teams are equal on points at the conclusion of pool matches teams will be separated using the following criteria (applied in order): 5. FORFEITS The Ratio of total sets won/lost The Ratio of total points won/lost The winner of the match between the tied teams 5.1 A forfeit will be declared ten (10) minutes after the scheduled start of play time where either team is unable to play. 5.2 The forfeit score shall be three (3) sets nil with each set being 25 points to nil with zero competition points rewarded to the team that forfeits. 5.3 Penalties for forfeiture of playing commitment are outlined in the USNZ Event Bond Policy. 5.4 If a team is found to have played an unaccredited player any matches this occurred in will be recorded as a forfeit. The forfeit score or actual completed match score will be recorded; whichever is higher. 6. PRESENTATION AND EVENT POINTS 6.1 At the completion of the championship gold, silver and bronze medals will be presented to the top three teams in both divisions (men s and women s). A trophy (if existing) will be awarded to the university that wins the competition: Men s Championship Women s Championship Page 2 of 4

3 6.2 Event points will be allocated to teams as per the USNZ Awards and Points Scoring Policy Team sports: Points allocation formula 7. UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS 7.1 General USNZ Uniform Requirements Each competitor shall wear the uniform of their university / tertiary institute All required safety and protective equipment specific for this sport may be worn (but must not interfere or be a H&S hazard to others including but not limited to jewellery) 7.2 Sport Specific Uniform Standards The uniform requirements for each sport should be as per the National Sporting Organisations standard s with the following minimum requirements; Team playing tops and shorts/tights must be matching in design and colour for all players: Shirt numbers must be clearly visible and clearly numbered 1-18 front and back with numbers of minimum of 15cm high (front) and 20cm high (back) and 2cm wide. Captain s shirt must be clearly identified with a line under the number on the shirt front. Libero/s must wear a distinctly contrasting coloured shirt for identification, numbered front and back within the team complement. No exposed undergarments are permitted on court during game play (e.g. skins, thermals, long tshirts etc) Non marking indoor court shoes must be worn 8. DUTY REQUIREMENTS 8.1 The duty requirement for Volleyball will be: Each team shall be rostered to provide a duty team for a number of matches throughout the championship. Teams will be provided with a 1 st Referee, 2 nd Referee, A Scoresheet Recorder and a Scorer. Duty teams will provide 4 lines people for each game they are scheduled to duty 8.2 Penalties for not fulfilling the officiating requirement are outlined in the USNZ Event Bond Policy / Teams may also be withdrawn from the competition (as this will be seen as not fulfilling obligations of entry to the tournament and may impact on other teams and their scheduled matches). 9. SELECTED TOURNAMENT TEAMS 9.1 A tournament team will be selected for both divisions (men s and women s) of the Volleyball competition. The team will consist of up to the starting line up, but may include a maximum of 12 players. 9.2 The Tournament Directors will lead the selection process and will outline this process at the Sport Technical Meeting prior to the start of the competition. 9.3 This team will not represent New Zealand University Sport at any stage. Selection in the tournament team is in recognition of outstanding individual performance during the Page 3 of 4

4 championship tournament only. All selected members will receive a tournament team medal as part of this recognition. 10. CLUB / TEAM OBLIGATIONS Teams are responsible for ensuring the following: All players in the team representing the tertiary institute are aware of all rules pertaining to this years tournament All team responsibilities for duty requirements are completed as allocated All players in the team are aware of and available to Accreditation checks as required Respect the support from sponsor/partners and funders and add value where possible. Demonstrate the principles of Fair Play at all times whilst representing their tertiary institute, and promoting the principles of fair play : Integrity Fairness 12. General Respect 11.1 Consumption of alcohol there shall be NO consumption of alcohol anywhere in the ASB Stadium 11.2 Teams must all have their First Aid kit as appropriate for their sport. Bandages, plasters, strapping and cooling spray/ointment or ice are recommended Team members will need to go to the sports control desk to have their accreditation checked each day this needs to be no later than 25 minutes, and should be 45 minutes, before their first game each day Please note teams must not consume anything other than water on or around the courts. Please note there will be water at the venue but no food. There are however, several food bars/cafes near the University which is only 5-10mins walk away.
