Circlestone Calculation Guide Step 1 Determine your circle diameter. Step 2 Using the table on the facing page, read across the line of the appropriate row/diameter to calculate product quantities to order in addition to the Center Pack. The prepackaged Center Pack must be ordered for all circles except when installing a fire ring (see pg.12). Shaded portions of illustration at left represent materials provided in the Center Pack. Example Construction of a 14-foot-diameter circle requires 1 Center Pack plus 1 Pallet and 1 Band of 3/4 Stones, and 7 Bands of Large Circle Stones Installation Note When installing a row of Circlestone containing more than one component type, alternate components throughout row. SOME HELPFUL HINTS Area of circle = diameter squared x or radius squared x Circumference of a circle = diameter x EXAMPLE For a 6-foot-diameter circle: Calculate Area = 6' x 6' x = 28.3 square feet (using diameter) or 3' x 3' x = 28.3 square feet (using radius) Calculate Circumference = 6' x = 18.8 linear feet around circle 6.25" 6.25" 5.25" 7" 3.75" 2.5" 2.75" 6.25" 2.75" Please refer to the table opposite for quantities when ordering Circlestone pavers. 6 Paver Installation Guide EXCAVATING Before excavating, contact your local utilities to identify any underground cables and pipes in and near the project area. Use spray paint to mark the perimeter of your project area. Excavate beyond the area to be paved by a distance equal to the depth of base required (see Aggregate Base section at top of p.9). Excavate to a depth that figure 1 allows 2-3/8 inches for pavers, 1 inch for bedding sand and the required compacted aggregate base (figure 1). Final grade should slope away from building foundations by a minimum 1/8 inch per foot to ensure proper drainage. All paved surfaces should include some slope for drainage. With the aid of a transit or level, it is often helpful to pound temporary guide stakes to the correct grade at several locations in the project area (figure 2). Use a hand tamper or vibrating plate compactor to pack down any loose soil remaining in the excavated area. figure 2 Willow Creek Paving Stones Underlayment Fabric is recommended under the aggregate base where certain soil conditions exist for example, in poorly drained, fine-grain soil such as clay or silt. By keeping the soil sub-base and aggregate base separate, this geotextile prevents the soft underlying soil from mixing with the crushed stone and diluting its strength. Place Willow Creek Paving Stones Underlayment Fabric on top of the entire excavated area, including up the sides. COMPACTED AGGREGATE BASE Place and compact uniform layers of aggregate base material throughout the excavated area until the required depth and slope is achieved. Best results will be achieved by using a vibrating plate compactor (figures 3, 4 and 5). Slightly moisten dry base material and compact in layers of no more than 4 inches at a time. Start at the perimeter and work your way toward Page 6 figure 3 figure 4 figure 5 the center, overlapping each previous pass. Make at least two complete passes to create a flat, smooth base. SETTING SCREED GUIDES Pavers are laid on a 1-inch layer of bedding sand. Screed guides are used to level the bedding sand. Set screed guides parallel to each other on the compacted aggregate base and check grade (figure 6). The top of the screed guides will be the top of your sand bed and will determine the pitch and flatness of your paver surface. figure 6 INSTALLING EDGE RESTRAINTS To prevent lateral movement of the pavers and to ensure proper interlocking, edge restraints should be installed on top of the crushed-stone base on all unrestrained edges of your project area (figure 7). Install edging initially on only one or two sides of the project area. This is where paver placement will begin. If possible, begin at a long, straight edge. After all paving stones have been laid, install the remainder of edging. Ribs of edge restraints may be easily cut to permit bending of the

restraints for curved edges. Stake edge restraints at all ends, leaving no more than 18 inches between spikes. Note: Circlestone comprises concentric rings of paving stones placed around one center paving stone. After all Circlestones are installed, place edge restraints around the perimeter of the project area. figure 7 SCREEDING SAND BED Carefully spread bedding sand around and between the screed bars to form a setting bed for the paving stones. Screed the sand by drawing a 2" x 4" board or other straight-edge across the top of the screed guides (figure 8). Then remove the guides and use a trowel to fill in the voids with sand. figure 8 Paver Installation Guide then left to right, completing one row at a time. String lines will help keep rows straight. Set the paving stones carefully into the sand; do not press or hammer them (figure 9). Place paving stones directly next to each other. The ribbed edges on the paving stones will ensure proper spacing. Continue adding paving stones until you ve completed your pattern. Note: When installing Circlestone, mark the center of the project area and begin laying paving stones in concentric circles from the center outward. See diagram in the Estimating Guide for proper placement of Circlestone components. figure 9 CUTTING PAVING STONES Paving stones may need to be cut to fit curves, corners and angles, or to go around objects. Mark the paving stones and cut them with a diamondtip-blade masonry saw for the cleanest results (figure 10). A guillotine pavingstone splitter or mallet and chisel also may be used. Cut paving stones to fill any remaining gaps to maintain patterns. Gaps less than 3/8 inch can be filled with sand. COMPACTING THE PAVING STONES Finish installation of edge restraints. Sweep the paving-stone surface to remove debris. Make two passes over the surface with the vibrating plate compactor to embed paving stones into the bedding sand (figure 11). Make any final adjustments in alignment or leveling at this time. figure 11 JOINT SAND Sweep dry joint sand over the paving stones and work it into the joints with a push broom (figure 12). When desired, use polymeric sand to prevent loss due to water or erosion. Make at least two more passes over the finished installation with a plate compactor, the second pass at an angle to the first, to level surface, firmly seat paving stones into bedding sand and force sand into the joints to ensure they interlock properly. Finally, sweep off excess sand. figure 12 LAYING PAVING STONES In general, lay the first paving stones against the longest section of edge restraint. If possible, start at the low end of the grade and work uphill to keep paving stones from shifting during construction. Select paving stones at random from different product pallets to get good color distribution. Work alternating from right to left, Page 7 figure 10 SEALANT (OPTIONAL) A sealant may be applied to the finished surface to protect paving stones against stains, enhance color and stabilize joint sand.

Basic Landscape Light Installation Instructions Please read all instructions thoroughly before beginning and follow them carefully when installing your project. These instructions can be used to install paver, wall, and undercap lights from SEK/Kerr. 1. Draft a layout of your project showing where the transformer will be plugged in and the desired location of your light. Lights typically are placed 5 to 8 feet apart for a pleasing, even illumination. 2. Make sure you have the materials and tools needed to complete your installation: Lights, each including light base, light lens, lamp socket(s), lamp(s) and bulbs Connectors (2 per light) Low-voltage power supply cable Transformer Tools, including wire cutters, Phillips-head screwdriver, pliers and petroleum jelly 3. Split one end of the power supply cable and remove about 3/8" of the insulation on each side to expose the copper wire inside. Connect each side to the A & B screws on the back of the transformer. 4. Mount the transformer indoors or outdoors near a plug. Transformers placed near swimming pools or other water sources should be plugged into a GFCIprotected outlet and the control unit should be mounted at least 10 feet from the edge of the water. Do not plug in the transformer until all lights have been installed. 5. Preassemble the lights. Mount lamp socket in the light base and feed both wires out of the hole in base. Dip the socket end of the lamp into petroleum jelly to prevent corrosion. Secure the bulb in the lamp socket. 6. Run low voltage cable around the perimeter of the project. For installation with concrete pavers, you may set the cable on top of the bedding sand under the border course of pavers to keep it from being damaged when digging in the yard and so it can be easily located. Form a loop in the cable where the light will be located (with a rubber band if desired) to leave enough Page 8 slack for connection of the light to the power cable. 7. Cut the power supply cable in half where light will be located and split it down the middle. Note that one side of the cable is ribbed and one is smooth. Do not strip insulation from the cable. 8. Wires will be rejoined and lights attached using the connectors. Examine connectors and note that there are three holes in each. Take the ribbed side of one end of the split power supply cable and push it into one of the side holes in the connector. Push it to the back of connector. Take ribbed side of the other end of the split power cable and place it in the hole on the other side, again making sure it is pushed all the way back. Finally take the black wire from a light and place it in the center hole, pushing it to the back of the connector. The connector should have 3 wires in it. 9. Once you have all three wires in each of the three holes and pushed back all the way, squeeze the connector with a pair of pliers to push the black cap down. This will make the connection between all three wires and will require some force. The connectors also contain silicone to protect the connection from moisture which may squeeze out on this step; be careful not to get it on your clothing. 10. Repeat steps 8 & 9 using the smooth sides of the power supply cable and the white wire from the light. You should end up with two connections per light as shown. After all lights have been attached, plug in and switch on the transformer to test all the connections. 11. Connectors should be buried below the pavers in the sand setting bed, in the ground, or in the stone behind retaining and garden walls. 12. Set the light fixture in its place. Make sure adjacent pavers sit on the L shaped feet that come with some Paver Lights or on the extended bottom plate that is part of the light base on others to hold down the light. Run the wiring under or around the existing or new pavers. 13. Install the light lens.

FAQ Is there any advantage to sealing your pavers? Sealers offer three main advantages: stain resistance, color enhancement, and binding the sand between the pavers, which helps to reduce weed growth. Wait at least a year after installation to apply sealant. Sealants must be applied every two to five years thereafter. What is efflorescence? Efflorescence is a whitish powder-like deposit which sometimes appears on concrete or clay products. The deposit is the residue of a soluble salt carried to the surface of the product by moisture and left on the surface as as dry powder following evaporation of the moisture. Efflorescence itself in no way affects the structural integrity of the concrete pavers. Orienting the units this way creates a stable foundation for your wall and provides a surface strip for mower wheels. The top of the base course units should be at about grade level. A stringline placed along the front of the units will keep their alignment straight. Use a 2'-4' level and rubber mallet to make all units level front to back and side to side. See figure 2.

Ledgestone Installation Guide HALF BOND wall Centering joints halfway between units in adjacent courses creates a classic half-bond pattern. After laying the base course, start the next course and every other course thereafter with a half-unit on one end to achieve a half bond. Apply two 1/4-inch beads of concrete adhesive to the top of the lower unit and secure the half-unit to it. Continue adding whole units until the second course is complete. Repeat the process for each subsequent course. Raise the stringline to maintain alignment. D C D C D C D C B A B A B A B A A B C D LEGDESTONE random PATTERN You can create a Ledgestone wall that has a random appearance by alternating placement of the panels (A, B, C, D) shown above. After laying the base course, start the next course with a panel, placed as shown, using a concrete adhesive to adhere each unit to the base course. Continue placing panels, alternating their orientation as shown to create a random look. If adding a second course, begin the course with a single Ledgestone unit to avoid vertical alignment of joints and raise the stringline to maintain horizontal alignment. Then lay the second course of panels, gluing each unit to the course below. Complete the second course with two Ledgestone units, or cut units as needed to create a flush vertical surface at the end of the wall. Pattern 1 Pattern 2 serpentine wall Ledgestone and Ledgestone Tapered units can be combined to create curved and serpentine walls. After laying the base course, interlace Ledgestone and Ledgestone Tapered units as shown, cutting units as needed, and secure each unit to the base course using a concrete adhesive. Be sure to vary the bond between courses with each subsequent course. For ease of installation, courses can alternate in a pattern Page 10

Ledgestone Installation Guide stonehenge wall You can create a more open appearance by leaving spaces between upright units in your wall. After laying the base course, lay a second course of units aligned along their 8-inch sides, as shown, and use a concrete adhesive to adhere each unit to the base course. Then set a row of units upright, spaced to bridge the joints in the course below, as shown, and secure with adhesive. The next course repeats the pattern of the second, and the top course repeats the base course. Always use concrete adhesive to adhere units to the course below. Capping Finish any Ledgestone wall with Ledgestone units laid perpendicular to the wall. Secure caps to the wall using concrete adhesive. freestanding column After excavating and preparing your base, place the first course of Ledgestone units in a square pattern as shown. Place the second course on the first, so that the joints between units are staggered from course to course and do not align vertically. Place the third course with units arranged in the same pattern as the first course. Place the fourth course with units arranged in the same pattern as the second and continue alternating between the two patterns as you add each course until your column is finished. As you build, secure each unit to the course below with concrete adhesive. Columns can be capped with six Ledgestone units, as shown, or with a cap made of cut Bullnose units (see below). Other options include a natural stone or manufactured column cap.
