5 CHAPTER 1: CONFIRM CONNECTIVITY TO CHASSIS CONFIRM CONNECTIVITY TO CHASSIS 1. Confirm Connectivity to Chassis 1.1 Can You Ping the Chassis? 1. From the Windows RUN bar, enter the command CMD to get Windows command prompt 2. Type ping or any other IP address that your chassis is at 3. If ping succeeds, skip to Chapter 2 4. If ping fails, we need to set the IP address of your PC to same subnet of chassis 1.2 Setting Static IP of Windows Computer Open Windows control panel and select Network and Sharing Center. 6 CHAPTER 1: CONFIRM CONNECTIVITY TO CHASSIS Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and select Properties Select Use the following IP address: and fill in the IP address: field to match the IP of the MAXNET II chassis except the last number in the subnet. 1-2 MAXNET II MAC Address Corruption Recovery Operation Manual

7 CHAPTER 1: CONFIRM CONNECTIVITY TO CHASSIS 1.3 Try to Ping Again Go back to step 1 to ping the chassis, if still unsuccessful then disconnect suspected MAXNET II chassis from any network Ethernet switch so it is isolated. Connect an Ethernet cable directly from the MAXNET II chassis to a PC with a free Local Area Connection port. You should be able to ping the chassis now. 9 CHAPTER 2: CONFIRM IF CHASSIS HAS CORRUPT MAC ADDRESS CONFIRM IF CHASSIS HAS CORRUPT MAC ADDRESS 2. Confirm if Chassis has Corrupt MAC Address 2.1 Surf to Chassis With Any Web Browser Open a Windows browser and enter the chassis IP to log into the MAXNET II web GUI. Select either the Chassis or Software Status tabs on the upper left of the screen. Both the Chassis and Software Status tabs will show the current MAXNET II chassis MAC address. A corrupted value is usually indicated by the final 6 values of ff:ff:ff but can also be indicated by 00:00:00. MAXNET II MAC Address Corruption Recovery Operation Manual 2-1

11 CHAPTER 3: REPAIR THE MAC ADDRESS REPAIR THE MAC ADDRESS 3. Repair the MAC Address 3.1 Find What It Should Be On the bottom of the Digi Connect module the unique MAC address will be labeled. In this example the unique MAC address is 00:40:9d:69:52:7d NOTE: ALL Digi Connect MAXNET II modules will have 00:40:9d for the first 6 values. 3.2 Telnet to the Chassis Once the unique MAC address is determined, follow these steps to repair the MAXNET II chassis that is corrupt. In our example, is the chassis to be repaired. Change this to what you need. Open a standard Windows command prompt or any Telnet program and type telnet You will be prompted for a Username and Password. 12 CHAPTER 3: REPAIR THE MAC ADDRESS 3.3 Repair the MAC Address Type in exactly (substitute the unique MAC address found on the back of the Digi Connect module): echo[space] 00:40:9d:69:52:7d [space]>[space]/etc/config/mac The [space] indicates where the user must press the spacebar on the keyboard. The > symbol is input by holding the shift key and pressing the. (period) key. When using Telnet, if the user wishes to erase a mistake use the delete key, not the backspace key. When the above has been entered, press the Enter key. Type exit and press the Enter key to exit the Telnet session. 3.4 Chassis Reboot Either quickly press the reset button on the back of the MAXNET II chassis, or use the web GUI. The web GUI can soft reset the chassis by selecting save changes on the configuration tab. This will bring a reboot now button. 3-2 MAXNET II MAC Address Corruption Recovery Operation Manual
