Problem Antiquated and Inefficient Healthcare Delivery System Experts agree- over $100 billion wasted yearly. Research shows: Over 70% of doctor office visits are unnecessary (Average Cost: $153) Over 66% of all ER visits are non-emergencies (Average Cost: $1200) Doctors not paid for phone or consultations. -No incentive to use lower cost settings 50 million uninsured, tens of millions underinsured -Even insured making choices between rent, groceries & basic health care.
Problem: Lack of Care Due to Cost Putting Off Care Because of Cost In the past 12 months, have you or another family member living in your household because of the COST, or not? Relied on home remedies or over the counter drugs instead of seeing a doctor Skipped dental care or checkups Put off or postponed getting health care you needed Not filled a prescription for a medicine Skipped recommended medical test or treatment Cut pills in half or skipped doses of medicine Had problems getting mental health care Percent saying yes 34% 34% 30% 26% 22% 17% 6% The cost to companies has more than tripled and the share shouldered by families is becoming prohibitive. Towers Perrin/2009 Health Care Cost Survey Did ANY of the above 53% Source: Kaiser Family Foundation Health Tracking Poll (conducted November 5-12, 2009)

Solution = Telemedicine Revolutionizing the delivery of healthcare, telemedicine is one of the most important modern innovations in healthcare, and will benefit from rapid adoption and growth over the coming years, settling as a $24 billion dollar industry by Research and Markets, 2006
Telemedicine Defined Telemedicine is the use of medical information exchanged from one site to another via electronic communications to improve patients' health status. Closely associated with telemedicine is the term "telehealth," which is often used to encompass a broader definition of remote healthcare that does not always involve clinical services. Videoconferencing, transmission of still images, e- health including patient portals, remote monitoring of vital signs, continuing medical education and nursing call centers are all considered part of telemedicine and telehealth.

Telemedicine Licensure available in Massachusetts? Recently, Massachusetts State Representative, Dan Winslow (R- Norfolk), and the House of Representatives approved the following legislation: a plan to allow doctors licensed anywhere in the United States to consult, diagnose and treat Massachusetts residents by internet video examinations. This is big news for Massachusetts and the Telemedicine industry as a whole. If approved by the Senate and signed by the Governor, this new technology will be a godsend to worried parents in the middle of the night, to seniors who are confined to home, to residents in rural areas who lack convenient access to primary care physicians, and to anyone who can t wait a few days or a week to obtain a prescription, said Winslow.
Solution: Lowest Cost of Delivery, Greatest Access STUDIES CONCLUDE: Telemedicine has the potential for restructuring medical care in ways that can solve many of the problems, while reducing costs and improving quality of care 1 Cost of Physician Access $1200+ Revolutionizing the delivery of healthcare, telemedicine is one of the most important modern innovations in healthcare, and will benefit from rapid adoption and growth over the coming years, settling as a $24 billion dollar industry by $150 Telemedicine Essential to Healthcare Reform Avg.
