4 Federal Policies The federal government also provides: Grants and loan programs, including grants to rural and tribal areas and loan guarantees to businesses through the DOE loan guarantee program. Personal tax credits on solar, wind, geothermal heat pumps for homes. FERC has also established federal interconnection standards for small generators up to 20 Megawatts. 4

8 State Level Renewable Energy Activity In addition to the federal programs, States have been active in promoting renewable energy. In 2008, Texas became leader in wind power development with more than 10 GW wind capacity installed by California installed 921 MW of wind and 538 MW of solar capacity in 2011 the most of any state. Renewable Energy growth has been driven by a combination of state incentives and Renewable Portfolio Standards. Some wind developments have been driven by economics in select locations. 8

11 Trends in US Renewable Energy Installations In 2011, Renewable Energy accounted for more than 35% of all new electrical capacity installations in the US compared to 2% in 2004 Since 2000, Renewable Energy installations have tripled and in 2011 representing 146 GW installed capacity with an average annual growth rate of 4.2% per4 year between Wind and solar photovoltaic are the fastest t growing renewable electricity technologies in 2011 wind increasing by 17% over 2010, solar photovoltaic installed capacity grew more than 86% over Wind energy accounted for about 75% of newly installed US Renewable Energy electricity capacity in
