2 INFORMATION AND LANGUAGE MODELS DESCRIBE PEOPLE Look at the following questions to ask about physical appearance. Describing people Asking about appearance: What does he/she look like? Asking about age: How old is he/she? Asking about height: How tall is he/she? Is he/she tall/short? Asking about weight: How much does he/she weigh? Is he/she slim/wellbuilt? Asking about hair: Does he/she have long/short/black/blonde hair? Asking about eyes: Does he/she have blue/brown/green/big/small eyes? To describe people we usually mention: a Height: short, of medium height, tall b Weight: thin, slim, well-built, chubby, overweight, fat, plump, of medium build c Age: young, old, middle-aged, in her/his twenties, thirties d Complexion: pale, light, fair, dark, olive-skinned, olive skin tone e Hair length: short, medium length, long f Hair color: blond, red, grey, dark g Hair type: straight, wavy, curly, bald, shaved head h Eyes - color: blue, green, brown, black i Eyes size: big, small, slanting j Nose - size: big, small, k Nose shape: flat, hooked, turned-up l Lips - shape: full, thin m Other features: mustache, beard, glasses, wrinkles, freckles, pretty, handsome, good-looking *It is not polite to say to people that they are thin, chubby or fat. He is tall, strong and oliveskinned. He has got short brown wavy hair and green eyes. He has got thin lips. He is Peter and he is a lawyer. He is short and fat. He is bald and has got a moustache. You know that film with that famous American actress. Oh, what s her name? Who? What does she look like? Has she got fair hair? No, she hasn t. She s got long dark hair. She s beautiful. Has she got blue eyes? Yes, she has. Very big blue eyes. Come on, What s her name? Arwen, from The Lord of the Rings. Oh, yeah! What s her name, then? Liv Tyler. Hey, your favorite movie s on TV tonight! What movie? You know, the film with that actor. What actor? Oh, what s his name? Hmm, you know, he has lovely brown eyes and Does he have blonde hair? No, he doesn t. He has short dark hair. Is he short and handsome? Yes, he is. I know. Is he from Puerto Rico? That s right! What s his name? I don t know. 4
