We are successfully coming to the end of a fruitful semester in the month of September, where Semester End Examination (SA - I) will become a reality. We would like all our students to look forward to the examination with confidence, to achieve success. The teachers are ensuring that the syllabus is completed on time, and the students have an excellent level of preparation in all subjects. Please ensure that the work of your ward is complete and timely corrected by the teachers. Some of the major activities and events held in the month of July and August were- The Junior School organized Talent Fiesta for the students of classes III to V in the month of July. It provided a platform to the students to showcase their talent in the fields of Art, Craft, Dance, Music, Elocution and Theatre. There was hundred percent participation of the students, where they performed on stage with great enthusiasm and zeal. To commemorate India s 70 th Independence Day, the Junior School celebrated Patriotic Week wherein, a plethora of activities were organized for the students of classes Nursery to V. Kite Flying activity was organized for the students of classes II to V, wherein parents joined us in large numbers to enthusiastically take part in the activity. The patriotic movie, I am Kalam, was shown to the students of classes III and IV to instill patriotic fervour among the students. Other activities such as Inter-House Dance and Song Competition, Recitation, Fancy Dress and Crafts competitions, were also organized. The EVS Department organised an exhibition on Astronomy. The students of classes III to V transformed into mini Astronomers and exhibited self-made models of Constellation Viewers, Telescopes and 3-D Art Work on Solar System. This was appreciated by all. An Inter Section Quiz on Atmosphere was also organized to make them aware of their environment. To make our school a Bully Free Zone, the newly elected Junior School Council is carrying out an Anti-Bullying campaign. They are making their fellow students aware of the importance of discipline in school, and emphasising upon not to bully as well as get bullied by others,with the help of talks and posters. Students of class V undertook a cleanliness drive in the school, where the volunteers gave handy tips to the students of classes I to IV, on how to keep their surroundings and school clean.

4 Nature Walk- Our school has a beautiful and green campus. The students of classes III to V were taken on a nature walk and introduced to wide varieties of plants in the school campus. This will help them to appreciate as well as learn about nature, cultivate curiosity and develop their observational skills. It is our endeavour to make it a joyful experience for the students to attend school in a secure, positive and comfortable environment. The welfare and well-being of each child is of paramount importance to the school. The school s best ally in the task of safeguarding and nurturing healthy children, are the parents. The school enables and enforces a safe learning environment, free from bullying, for our young learners. Kindly Note- Heavy school bags are a concern for the school as well as the parents. The students have a provision of keeping their text books, workbooks and files in the school. They should only carry home the books needed for homework and tests. Clean out your ward s school bag regularly, since your child may be carrying unrequired items. Refrain your ward strictly from carrying any sharp objects such as, blades and scissors, as it can result in an injury to self or others. Reinforce at home, the importance of discipline, positive values, use of appropriate language and respect for others. Attendance is a prerequisite for effective learning. Parents should encourage their wards to be regular and punctual to the school. Students should be firmly discouraged from missing the school. Do not send your unwell child to school for any test or exam. Marks are replicated, in case the student misses a test. Students who have been sick, should submit a medical certificate on joining back school. It is the parents responsibility to ensure that their ward reaches the school, at least five minutes before the school commences. Parents may meet the class teacher/ subject teachers during school hours, only with a prior appointment with the teacher concerned. If your child travels by a private vehicle, please keep a check on the person who ferries them to and from the school. Please instruct the concerned driver not to leave the children unattended outside the school, at any point of time. Best Wishes

5 NEWSLETTER CLASSES III- V Dear Parents, Greetings to you all from the Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj family. The new session has begun with a lot of zest and hope. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. A strong partnership between the teachers and parents will make a great difference in your child's education. The school follows Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) for classes III-V which provides adequate opportunities to the students for all around development. Formative Assessments (FA) which are a part of CCE, will be diagnostic as well as remedial and to be done wholly in school as part of daily routine teaching. The Assessment procedure will be based on the child's progress in the class, which will include his / her academic performance, class behavior, attitudes towards teachers, school mates, school and environment. As a premium education institute, we believe that we need to prepare students for life to enable them to become lifelong learners capable of analyzing new situations, think creatively and critically and communicate better. The school has successfully introduced subject oriented Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions and Value Based Questions with the lessons taught for classes III to V. The examination policy from the current academic year is as follows: Formative Assessments or FAs will be conducted twice in every semester. Activities during these FAs must be taken seriously and submitted on time. FAs would be given weightage as follows: FAl=Actl (10) +Act2 (10) +Class Performance/Class Work (20) =40 marks FA2=Actl (10) +Act2 (10) +Unit Test I (20) =40 marks FA3=Actl. (10) +Act2 (10) +Class Performance/Class Work (20) =40 marks FA4=Actl (10) +Act2 (5) +PSA (5) +Unit Test (20) =40 marks The Summative Assessments i.e., SA I and SA II will have a weightage of 30 marks for Class III and 50 marks for Classes IV and V. This change is being incorporated as we want our children to gradually transit from junior to senior classes and be ready to follow their assessment patterns. Summative Assessments or SAland SA2 would be given weightage as follows: Term I: FA1 (10) +FA2 (10) +SA1 (30) =50 Term II: FA3 (10) +FA4 (10) + SA2 (30) = 50 Final Result=Term I (50) +Term II (50) =100

6 The school shall conduct Problem Solving Assessment (PSA) for students of class IV and V in Term II as part of FA 4. Ample practice will be done throughout the year to improve the higher order thinking skills of our young learners. In case the child is absent for PSA, zero marks shall be granted. The school is also including Open Text Book Assessment (OTBA) for classes IV and V in SAI and SAII as a part of the question paper in each main subject i.e., English, Hindi, Math and EVS. The OTBA section comprises text material accompanied by questions based on the text. The questions will be based on the open text material already given to the students in advance. The school is conducting extra classes for English, Hindi, EVS and Mathematics twice a week after school hours. This is our endeavour to reinforce the concepts and help academically weak students to cope up with the curriculum. The students will not be charged for these classes. Meritorious students from class 5 have been selected and shall be extensively trained to prepare them for Inter School Math Competitions held at the end of every session, namely Aryabhatta and Ramanujam, conducted by Summer Fields School and Modem School respectively. These children will be trained every day in school during their co-scholastic periods and would be expected to stay back twice a week for the intensive training. We would also like to inform you about various activities which are being organized for by the school in the coming months of April / May. The school will be organizing an Inter School Cultural and Literary Fest "Harmony" in May where the selected students of classes III- V will participate in the event. The junior school will select its school council and house appointees from class V. The school will then invest duties to these selected students. To encourage and inculcate the habit of reading among the children, we have been maintaining a class library in all the classes. Kindly send good books by eminent authors to be kept in the class library. The school hopes that parents will appreciate the need for holistic assessment and encourage the children to develop skills in all areas. The school hopes for a whole hearted cooperation from the parents in our endeavour to make learning fun for the students.
