1 PROGRAM YouthForce 2020 Scholarship/ Internship Program The New York Office of Turner Construction Company each year selects five high school seniors from New York City schools for an $8,000 college scholarship/internship program. The recipients must major in Electrical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability, Construction Management or Architecture. ELIGIBILITY The scholarship program has been established to encourage minorities and women who have a strong, sincere desire to pursue an education that will result in a career in the Building Industry. All candidates must legally be authorized to work the United States and supply documents that establish both identity and employment eligibility with submission of scholarship application. Candidates shall only be allowed a maximum of $8,000 in scholarship awards regardless of length of degree program. Scholarhsip awards to be given in $2,000 increments annually / $1,000 per completion of a successful semester. INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS Beginning after a successful first year of college: 3 summers if enrolled in a 4 year degree program 4 summers if enrolled in a 5 year degree program SCHOLARSHIP GOVERNING BOARD The recipients will be selected by Turner Construction Company. QUALIFICATIONS School and community activities A "B-" (80 %) cumulative Grade Average Combined SAT scores - score 1600 or better (includes all 3 parts) Page 1

2 Written essay, words - "Why I want to pursue a career in the Building Industry" Accepted to an accredited four year College/University majoring in Civil, Occupational, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Sustainability, Construction Management or Architecture. REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTINUATION IN THE Remain in good standing with a 2.80 grade average or better. Complete required summer internships. Achieve a satisfactory evaluation on summer internships. GUIDELINES FOR COMPLETING AND SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION APPLICATION MATERIALS: The applicant is to enclose a letter of nomination from the High School he/she will graduate from. You may create your profile at and apply to our Intern position, req All resumes will be reviewed by the Turner Construction, New York Human Resources department (HR), as well as select staff from the Operations department. If you are selected you will be notified by and asked to complete Turner s online employment application form. Complete and sign the "YouthForce Application Form." [PAGE 5 OF THIS DOCUMENT] B. A HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT of the applicant's grades indicating a "B-" (equivalent to 80%). C. A TRANSCRIPT of the applicant's SAT or ACT scores. D. Attach a written essay by the applicant consisting of no longer than one (1) typewritten, single-spaced page to the application form addressing the theme "Why I want to pursue a career in the building industry." E. Attach a resume or short biographical STATEMENT of no longer than one (1) typewritten, single spaced page to the application, which includes details of honors, scholarships received, extracurricular activities and the items listed below: 1. 3 2. Leadership: An ability to motivate, influence, guide and inspire others to achieve individual goals, activities or actions. 3. Community Service: Voluntary service to benefit others. 4. Unique Endeavors: Any special or outstanding accomplishments in the applicant s personal, community or academic life. 5. Obstacles: Overcoming of obstacles -- meeting personal challenges that may include economic, mental or physical limitations, geographic or social barriers or limitations. F. Two letters of reference from responsible adults, not related to the applicant, that explains the nature and length of the adult's relationship to the applicant. G. OPTIONAL SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS: Up to three (3) pages of supplementary materials MAY be submitted with the official application form. They may be additional letters of recommendation, testimonials, news clippings, pamphlets, proof of citizenship or other materials, which support the application. However OPTIONAL materials will NOT be returned. H. CONFIRMATION OF FINANCIAL NEED: Turner reserves the right to request supporting documentation that indicates the applicant s financial need. This documentation will consist of copies of the applicant s parent s tax returns and W-2 statements. Do not submit this documentation until requested.
