4 Statement by Management on the annual report We have today presented the annual report of Cross Cultures Project Association (CCPA) for the financial year 1 January to 31 December The annual report has been presented in accordance with the Danish Financial Statements Act. We consider the accounting policies appropriate for the annual report to provide a true and fair view of the Association s financial position and results. 5 Independent auditor's report To the Board of Cross Cultures Project Association (CCPA) Report on the financial statements We have audited the financial statements of Cross Cultures Project Association (CCPA) for the financial year 1 January to 31 December 2012, which comprise the accounting policies, income statement, balance sheet and notes. The financial statements are prepared in accordance with the Danish Financial Statements Act. Management's responsibility for the financial statements Management is responsible for the preparation of financial statements that give a true and fair view in accordance with the Danish Financial Statements Act and for such internal control as Management determines is necessary to enable the preparation of financial statements that are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error. Auditor's responsibility Our responsibility is to express an opinion on the financial statements based on our audit. We conducted our audit in accordance with International Standards on Auditing and additional requirements under Danish audit regulation. This requires that we comply with ethical requirements and plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free from material misstatement. An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. The procedures selected depend on the auditor's judgement, including the assessment of the risks of material misstatements of the financial statements, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal control relevant to the entity's preparation of financial statements that give a true and fair view in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity's internal control. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates made by Management, as well as the overall presentation of the financial statements. We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our audit opinion. Our audit has not resulted in any qualification. Opinion In our opinion, the financial statements give a true and fair view of Cross Cultures Project Association (CCPA) financial position at 31 December 2012 and of the results of its operations for the financial year 1 January to 31 December 2012 in accordance with the Danish Financial Statements Act. Emphasis of matter In the notes to the annual report, the Danish labour costs and overhead costs are allocated to projects based on an estimate of such costs share of the total activity of CCPA. This estimate was made by Management and we have not found any reason to challenge this allocation. The notes and the specifications of the financial statements and the income statements for the respective countries informed "inkinds / local contributions" is based on estimates from management. We have not audited the stated budget in the internal income statement and the respective countries informed "inkinds / local contributions". 5

6 Independent auditor's report Statement on the management commentary Pursuant to the Danish Financial Statements Act, we have read the management commentary. We have not performed any further procedures in addition to the audit of the financial statements. On this basis, it is our opinion that the information provided in the management commentary is consistent with the financial statements. 7 Management s review In 2012, CCPA s total activities comprised: Open Fun Football Schools on Balkan - incl. pilot project OFFS+SSP in Serbia and Bosnia Open Fun Football School in Trans Caucasus Open Fun Football Schools in Central and Eastern Europe CCPA in the Middle East - Formation of Popular clubs in Lebanon - Open Fun Football Schools in Iraq - Open Fun Football Schools in Afghanistan and Tajikistan Campaigning Operation Dagsværk, Iraq 1. Result of the year The result of the year amounted to DKK -515k. The result figure comprises: a) Open Fun Football Schools activities on Balkan, DKK 5k b) Open Fun Football Schools activities in Trans Caucasus, 0 c) Open Fun Football Schools activities Eastern Europe, DKK 5k d) Open Fun Football Schools activities in the Middle east DKK -426 e) Campaigning Operation Dagsværk DKK -99k Notes: At the year beginning CCPA planned unfinanced investments to run Foreseen: i) a pilot program in Afghanistan and Tajikistan (DKK 250k.) ii) Campaigning Operation Dagsværk (DKK 100k) Unforeseen: iii) Formation of Popular clubs in Lebanon (DKK -205k) The background for the overspending is wrong administrative periodizing. Thus the income was accounted for in 2010, while the expenses occurred in This was reported to and approved by the CCPA board when the mistake was discovered (board meeting 26. June 2012). (The Rockwool project ran from and the total income and expenses are in balance). 2. Financial challenges In 2012, our total activities amounted to in-cash DKK 14,947k. To this amount local sponsor contributions in the respective countries are added at a total value of approx. DKK 4,743k. These grants are granted in-kind in the form of transportation and food to the children, or as a direct payment of hotel expenses in connection with miscellaneous coach seminars. Correspondingly the total activities in-cash/in-kind amounted to DKK 19,690k. Compared to 2011 the in-cash income in 2012 has decreased by DKK 3,581k. 7

8 Management s review The main reasons are the termination of the sponsorships with - Unicredit (Balkan and Ukraine) - Rockwool Foundation (Lebanon) - Statoil (Azerbaijan and Georgia) The in-kind contribution has increased by DKK 1,243k. The main reasons for this increase are: - Clothes sponsorship with hummel - Ukraine financed in-kind their volunteer seminars and other OFFS activities that was implemented along with the Euro A general increase in the contribution pledged by local FA s, Ministries of Youth and Sports and embassies. Thus in 2012 the total local contributions 2012 in-cash/ in-kind made up 32% of the total income, which we consider a very good and important achievement. The figures above further show that Cross Cultures is experiencing a considerable change in our donor portfolio. Until 2010 approx. 2/3 of CCPA s total activities were made up by the Nordic governments (Denmark, Norway and Sweden). In 2012 Sweden contributed alone with 41% of the total income, Denmark with only 2% and Norway 0%. These figures confirm that it becomes more and more difficult to get Nordic governmental funds for our programs, and there is need to be concerned of the day when the Swedish support expires. On the other hand we see a considerable increase in the income (in-cash/in-kind) made up by the local governments, local partners and private sponsorships (57 %). Another tendency is that the duration of the international funding in general is getting shorter. CCPA still operates on three-year contracts with Sida and we have signed a new five-year agreement with UEFA ( ). But beside these agreements we are only offered short term-agreements (one-year or less), which are affecting the stability and progress of change in the programs. Correspondingly we see a change in our donor portfolio from: Nordic Governmental funding Local and private funding Few core-partner funding Multiple partners and smaller contributions Long-term agreements Short-term agreements 8

9 Management s review Program Results With all this is being said CCPA will like to raise the flag in recognition of all the activities our local colleagues and volunteers produce. In 2012 CCPA organised 151 for a total of 28,565 boys and girls (it is an increase of 10 Open Fun Football Schools compared to 2011) and for the first time ever CCPA and our local partners organised tournaments and one-day-fun festivals in accordance with our principles for over 100,000 boys and girls (126,060)! 9

11 Management s review CCPA 2013 and onwards Based on the positive achievements in all our strategic areas in 2012 we feel ready to meet the future challenges. 1) Partnership-approach brought many new partnerships. Within the CCPA family we are today 10 independent CCPA branches worldwide. Further we are implementing our activities in partnerships with the grassroots departments in 6 Football Associations. On top of this, CCPA have entered into operational partnerships with UEFA, FC Barcelona Foundation, SSP- Sekretariatet, DBU, DIF, Operation Dagsværk. The above partnerships are all founded in concrete joint activities. 11

12 Management s review Further CCPA is member of several international and national NGO platforms: StreetfootballWorld, Beyond Sport, International Platform for Sport, Development & Peace, Concord and CISU. In other words CCPA have developed to an extensive network of operational and active partners. Correspondingly we see a need of analysing and maybe also formalizing our entire network organization and our joined capacity. How are we all linked together formally and informally, regionally and worldwide? Is there a need to further formalize our partnerships? Statutes Etc. 2) Open Fun Football schools in Post Conflict Situations Areas of Attention: Bosnia, Kosovo, Moldova, Georgia, Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2012 CCPA implemented successfully a pilot test of our Open Fun Football School concept in Afghanistan. The results were so positive that CCPA will work for setting up a three-year full scale operation in cooperation with the Afghan Football Federation. 3) Open Fun Football Schools PLUS Conflict and Crime Prevention In partnership with SSP-Sekretariatet of Copenhagen Municipality, CCPA have introduced the Danish SSPconcept on two regional seminars/conferences for a total of 187 persons in Caucasus & Eastern Europe and Balkan. Our colleagues in Bosnia, Serbia and Macedonia are all implementing so-called pilot programs in order to develop and operationalize our CCP-approach, and the approach and results are VERY promising. There are no doubt that CCPA will do our outmost to further develop and expand our OFFS + CCP approach in the old countries. CCPA have applied several different funds by EU and US to achieve funding for a longer and substantial CCPprogram in relevant countries, but we are facing the barrier, that CCPA is known for our multi-ethnic Fun Football Schools and not Crime Prevention or Governance building. CCPA will stubbornly continue to develop our CCP-approach and apply funds for that, simply because this approach is considered so relevant and meaningful and because CCPA has something special to contribute with. 4) Youth & Social Entrepreneurship The Operation Dagsværk campaign culminated 21 November 2012 when 22,000 high school students donated one-day-work to raise funds for a CCPA youth-to-youth program in Iraq. The final result of the campaign is still not concealed, but CCPA have been asked to prepare a three-year project amounting to DKK 5.500k. By this CCPA succeeded to raise funds for our Youth-pillar. 12

13 Management s review Further CCPA has been invited by MFA Denmark to give in an application to organise youth activities in Tunesia in cooperation with DIF and Gerlev Sports Academy. In other words, we managed to raise funds to develop Youth & Social Entrepreneurship programs. In 2013 we will start implementation of these two programs. 13

14 Accounting policies The annual report is presented in accordance with the provisions of the Danish Financial Statements Act governing reporting class A. Furthermore, the rules for reporting class B enterprises on management's review have been applied. Recognition and measurement Assets are recognised in the balance sheet when it is probable that future economic benefits will flow to the Association, and the value of the asset can be measured reliably. Liabilities are recognised in the balance sheet when the Association has a legal or constructive obligation as a result of a prior event, and it is probable that future economic benefits will flow out of the Company, and the value of the liability can be measured reliably. On initial recognition, assets and liabilities are measured at cost. Measurement subsequent to initial recognition is effected as described below for each financial statement item. Anticipated risks and losses that arise before the time of presentation of the annual report and that confirm or invalidate affairs and conditions existing at the balance sheet date are considered at recognition and measurement. Income is recognised in the income statement when earned, whereas costs are recognised by the amounts attributable to this financial year. Value adjustments of financial assets and liabilities are recorded in the income statement as financial income or financial expenses. Balance sheet Income Funding and donations are recognised in the income statement when final approval of funding has been received for the financial year in line with the stage of completion of the project. Income is allocated according to the projects for which funding has been provided. Expenses Expenses are recognised in the income statement when incurred and taken to the projects to which they are attributable. Joint expenses are allocated to the individual areas according to the number of football schools arranged and Management s estimate. Within specific areas, expenses are distributed on the various contributions according to the individual contribution s share of the total funding in the area. Property, plant and equipment Property, plant and equipment in Denmark are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and impairment losses. 14

15 Accounting policies Cost comprises the acquisition price and costs directly attributable to the acquisition until the time when the asset is ready to be put into operation. Straight-line depreciation is made on the basis of the following estimated useful lives of the assets: Other fixtures and fittings, tools and equipment 5 years Assets costing less than the tax threshold for minor assets are recognised as costs in the income statement at the time of acquisition. Profits and losses from the sale of property, plant and equipment are calculated as the difference between selling price less selling costs and the carrying amount at the time of sale. Property, plant and equipment in other countries are charged to the income statement at the time of acquisition. Receivables Receivables are measured at amortised cost usually equalling nominal value less write-downs for bad debts. Foreign currency translation On initial recognition, foreign currency transactions are translated applying a pre-determined rate. Receivables, payables and other monetary items denominated in foreign currencies that have not been settled at the balance sheet date are translated using the exchange rate at the balance sheet date. Exchange differences that arise between the rate at the transaction date and the one in effect at the payment date or the rate at the balance sheet date are recognised in the income statement as financial income or financial expenses. 15
