4 Who is eligible to apply for spring 2014? You may apply by the end of this semester if you will have completed: three full semesters at Brandeis (or another college for transfer students) ECON 2a or ECON 10a, Bus 4a/6a, and BUS 10a, with grades of C or better

Business Administration (at least 2 courses) Management Finance Innovation Over time, we expect the number of specializations to grow as we expand the curriculum, e.g., Marketing and Real Estate (beginning this summer with the JBS programs).

BUS 89a Internship in Business BUS 98a Independent Research Specialization is achieved by taking 3 courses in a theme. Specializations do not appear on transcripts but may be shown on resumes. For ECON + BUS double majors, no double counting beyond: ECON 2a or 10a (our prerequisite), ECON 20a (to satisfy a III.B requirement), and ECON 83a (which exempts students from BUS 1b).

8 How and When to Apply HOW? on the BUSINESS website, you will find a link to the on-line application: create an account complete the one-page application upload a copy of your resume which must be approved by Hiatt Career Center upload a personal essay (maximum 500 words) no need to provide us with your transcript; the Registrar will do that for you WHEN? the application period runs from December We will not accept early, late, or incomplete applications.

9 Resume-writing assistance from Hiatt Your resume must be approved by Hiatt before submitting your application. Resumes are only approved once the guidelines outlined on the Hiatt Resume Rubric have been met: A majority of students seeking resume approval have interacted with Hiatt staff members 3 to 4 times before approval is earned. Resume reviews are available during Drop Ins (M-F 11am-4pm, Tu 5-7pm) & HiattChat (M-Th 8-10pm): To your resume for review, send it to hiattchat@gmail.com. Hiatt s deadline for resume approval is December 2.

10 Is there a profile of the student we will accept? Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee admission to the Business major to everyone who applies. This reflects resource constraints and is consistent with universities across the US. We have not established minimum GPAs, though we will be looking at both the core GPA (i.e., grades for the three required courses) and overall GPA as indicators of your ability to do well in the major. We will also look at the menu of courses you have taken, not just the raw GPA. We will look carefully at your resume and personal essay; remember this is Brandeis, so we value evidence of a commitment to community and caring activities where you give to others less fortunate; involvement with student government, clubs and teams; and so on. We value experience that shows leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, whether it was organizing a successful event on campus with minimal funds, or scooping ice cream in a local store for an impatient clientele when no one else showed up for work, or managing a complex database for investment bankers who were insisting you meet an impossible deadline to bid on a major transaction. WE WILL INFORM STUDENTS OF OUR DECISIONS BY MONDAY, JANUARY 13

11 What happens if you not are accepted into the major? You will be allowed to apply one more time while at Brandeis. Alternatively, you may complete the minor: The requirements are: A) ECON 2a/10a, BUS 6a, BUS 10a B) one Business and Society course, except ECON courses C) one Business Administration course beyond BUS 10a, except BUS 89a or 98a D) one additional course: any Business and Society course, including ECON courses, or Business Administration course beyond BUS 10a, including BUS 89a or 98b E) for all 6 courses: final grades must be C or better; Pass cannot be used
