Due to the high resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels, the user is able to see even the smallest tissue details with absolute clarity. Due to its enormous light sensitivity, the camera delivers a fascinating depth of colors even under adverse conditions. The exclusive use of digital signals allows interference-free amplification of the images. The easily replaceable camera-head cable and the two user-programmable head buttons, provide high quality combined with the economic efficiency typical of GIMMI. The user can choose between a HD 3CCD camera head or the autoclavable HD 1CCD camera head, making the Al p h aversatile II truly versatile. Highlight 1. Product Features Possibility to adapt 1CCD HD Camera head or 3CCD camera head to the same control unit The control Hub of the Versatile II HD MS is able to process two camera heads, the one and the three chip head. This allows the user to decide freely which camera head is preferred, especially when using two camera heads with one control unit to avoid a delay while processing (sterilizing). The 3ccd camera head is indicated by golden key panel, the 1ccd by a silver one. 3 Removable camera cable Damages in the cable of the camera head are, out of experience, the major source of defects. The cables regularly get damaged by improper handling. The easy exchange of the head cable reduces service costs dramatically. It also allows any hospital staff to exchange the cable themselves. This feature is only available by GIMMI and Wolf. Autoclavable 1CCD camera head Both the 3ccd as well as the 1ccd camera heads have been designed to be autoclavable. For guarantee reasons we are only promote, that the 1ccd head is autoclavable and specify 500cycles accordingly. If needed we can issue a separate extended warranty for autoclaving the 3ccd camera head. This will only be possible with a surcharge of 50%. 7 Technical information HD What does HD (High Definition) means? HDTV High Definition Televison High Definition Television (HDTV) is a digital television broadcasting system with greater resolution than traditional television systems. The Resolution is 1920*1080 (16:9 ratio) as 1080p or 1280*720 as 720p. Wikipedia Standard Definition sd video commonly describes PAL 576p (720*576 pixel) and NTSC (648*486) resolution. All analogue video signals (BNC, S-Video) and storage devices use SD resolution (VHS, etc) High definition (EndoHD) As new standard in endoscopy, GIMMI, along with other companies such as Stryker and Richard Wolf, has introduced a high resolution 5:4 image format with 1280*1024 pixels. This is approximately double the resolution of the PAL and well known as the SXGA format it is widely used in computer graphics and screens. The EndoHD format (1280*1024) is the native resolution of several medical monitors, such as the Sony LMD 1950 MD WUXGA The Versatile ii HD MS supports an even higher resolution the HDTV. WUXGA is with its 1900*1200 pixels (16:10 ratio) approximately 10% higher in resolution than HDTV. This high resolution is a unique feature of the Gimmi cameras. We recommend the Sony monitor LMD 2450 MD using 1920 x 1200 as native resolution. The increased resolution has a positive effect on endoscopic video images, because PAL HD ready ENDO Hd FULL HD/Real HD smaller details now become visible! 8 FAQ What is the difference between 1CCD and 3CCD Camera Head? The sensors on a CCD chip can only pick-up brightness (not color ). 1-CCD In order to produce a color picture with a 1-CCD camera, the pixels of the CCD have to be shared between the 3 primary colors (Red, Green and Blue). 50% of the pixels are used for Green, 25% for Blue and 25% for Red. The camera electronics calculate the missing pixels and produce a color picture. 3-CCD A 3-CCD camera uses 3 separate CCD s. On for Red, Green and Blue. The camera electronics combine 1 pixel from each CCD to a color pixel. As a result, the full resolution of the CCD is visible in a color picture! The colors are also more precise and lifelike than with a 1-CCD unit. Basically the 3ccd camera has a three times higher color resolution. Picture of three image sensor mounted on a prism. Which Video signals should be used? always use the High resolution and digital DVI / HDMI signals DV (Firewire) is the ideal signal for the MulitStore or other DV capturing devices. S-Video is only used for older analogue image storing devices. It can also be used for satellite monitors and as backup connection. BNC is very rarely used for analogue image storing devices. What is the advantage of DVI as HD Video output? Why is the HD-SDI missing? HD-SDI is not able to stream FullHD with 1080p. HD-SDI is only able to transmit 1080i, half of the 1080p Bandwidth. At this stage the only possibility to have FullHD images on a monitor is HD-DVI, Dual Link HD-SDI or HDMI, which actually are the same as DVI + an audio channel. The only advantage of the SDI signal is the possibility of having a cable longer than 10 m (which is the limit of DVI cables) Why does the Versatile II HD not provide an RBG SIGNAL? By providing one DVI signals and two HDMI signals we have the best digital signal quality available. RBG is an along signal and was formally used to connect the camera to the monitor. Today we are only using DVI or HDMI for this reason. For analogue SD image storing devices we use S-Video (Y/C) or Video (BNC). What is the difference between HDMI and DVI? HDMI and DVI are very similar. The major difference is that the HDMI also transmits audio signals. HDMI is widely spread in consumer products, especially through the implemented HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). Adapters from HDMI to DVI or DVI to HDMI are available.

9 Why can t the camera menu be operated from the camera head? The menu enables to user to adjust various settings two of the camera. Out of our experience the surgeon is never required to make these adjustments during a procedure. By having two functions available on the head keys plus the automatic white balance, as well as the preset user- and indication profiles we offer the user all necessary adjustments, by providing an easy to use system at the same time. What is the difference between a digital and an optical zoom? To have an optical zoom you need to have a zoom objective (e.g. s ). The digital zoom is a standard feature of the Versatile II HD MS. We always recommend the usage of the optical zoom, as it provides a better image quality in comparison with the digital zoom, as it reduces the resolution. The digital zoom of the Versatile II HD MS has maximal magnification of 2x in 6 steps. What is a parafocal zoom? A parafocal zoom objective is an objective that stays in focus when magnification is changed. Especially Storz is promoting the zoom objectives as parafocal zoom objective, although the focus has to be adjusted after zooming. Therefore there is no big difference between the Storz camera and ours. Is there an autofocus camera in endoscopy? No, in endoscopy there is no auto focus camera. In comparison with digital photo cameras, the distances in endoscopy are minimal and there are regularly instruments in front of the scope respectively the camera. The technical effort would be in relation to the benefit, if there is one. With chip-on-the-tip endoscopes (camera sensor inside the scope) there is no need for a focus altogether. These devices are a defined system with a good depth of field (depth of focus) and therefore no focus is needed. These systems are called fix focus. What are the reasons to buy the AlphaVersatile II HD MS Camera System? - Outstanding price/performance ratio - Excellent HD picture quality - Important features, e.g. changeable camera cable, 1CCD and 3CCD head available Are the camera heads of the Versatile II HD and the camera heads of the Versatile II HD MS interchangeable? No, there have been significant changes in the electronics; therefore we had to change the connector to avoid damage to the camera head and the control unit. The connection has improved and is more user friendly in the latest version. Can 1ccd and 3ccd camera heads be changed? 1ccd and 3ccd can freely be interchanges within the same camera generation. Some of our customers use several 1ccd heads, which are autoclaved and one 3ccd head (used with a drape) for laparoscopy with the same control unit. What is the best monitor setting? First of all, it is very important to use a monitor, which is tested and specified by Gimmi. Only these monitors guarantee the best overall performance. Consumer monitors are not able to display the high contrast and the excellent color resolution and therefore have a very negative performance in combination with the specialized endoscopy cameras. Generally a neutral monitor setting is preferable (factory reset). Which monitors are recommended by Gimmi?
