It is ethically sourced from responsible quarries and hand crafted into individual paving, checked for quality and finally the edges are hand dressed. Each paving stone is unique with its own characteristics created by nature millions of years ago. Our high quality stone can be used externally for paths, patios and drives with a range of complimentary accessories including circles, squaring-off kits and setts to enhance your garden. It is stocked in a wide range of sizes and a good choice of colours. 8 NATURAL STONE PAVING Sandstone Paving (Weathered Finish) Lakeland - Pictured wet Lakeland Weathered Sandstone originates from superior grade, ethically sourced, hand cut sandstone paving. The flagstones are processed to deliver a worn texture and appearance, normally associated with reclaimed stone flags. Weathered Sandstone offers a good alternative to reclaimed Yorkstone paving, which can be difficult to obtain and very expensive. 08

11 Limestone Paving Ennerdale is a beautiful natural limestone paving with a slightly less riven surface than sandstone. The level surface makes Ennerdale ideal for patio furniture as well as for internal applications. The colour is enhanced when the stone is wet to a striking jet black patio. Over time, with gentle weathering, the stone will tone down to a dark grey colour. Adding black mortar dye to the pointing mixture will give an extra touch of class to your patio. They are a natural limestone sett, produced in three sizes to offer that touch of class to your drive. They can also be used for paths and courtyards, giving that period feel to your property. 16 DECORATIVE AGGREGATES Decorative Aggregates KBM Natural Stone are stockists of a wide range of decorative aggregates in different sizes and colours. Decorative aggregates are great for creating paths, driveways and low maintenance gardens, adding exciting textures and colours to your garden. Products are sourced from quarries across the country in order for us to offer such a comprehensive range of landscaping aggregates. Remember, we buy in bulk so you don t have to! For assistance in calculating quantities required: 1 tonne laid at a depth of 50mm will cover approximately 12 square metres. 1.6 tonnes = 1 cubic metre. 18 PEBBLES, COBBLES, ROCKERY STONE & BOULDERS Pebbles, Cobbles, Rockery Stone & Boulders PEBBLES COBBLES ROCKERY STONE BOULDERS Pebbles, cobbles and rockery stones can be used to add the perfect finishing touch to your landscaping project. Our range can be used for many applications such as flowerbeds, water features and rockeries. KBM Natural Stone s range of rockery stones can be used to great effect in water features and garden rockeries. These natural materials vary considerably in size, colour and shape. Our large boulders are great individual features and are also effective for parking control. Pebbles and cobbles are available in Handy Bags, Midi Bags and Jumbo Bags. We hold good stocks of oak sleepers, which we can supply in any quantity with competitive rates for larger orders. 20 ACCESSORIES / GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION Accessories WITHOUT A GEOTEXTILE IN PLACE WITH A GEOTEXTILE IN PLACE WEED CONTROL KBM Natural Stone offer a range of weed control membranes for use below decorative aggregates, mulch and soil. Using Landscape Fabric suppresses weeds but allows water, air and nutrients to the soil below. GEOTEXTILES This versatile hard wearing fabric successfully meets the requirements for soft and hard landscaping. It can be used above the ground for heavy duty weed suppression or below ground for ground stabilisation and as a separating membrane. The fabric stabilises the ground by acting as a separator between aggregate and soil layers. Preventing rutting and sinking, improving drainage make geotextiles ideal for areas of vehicular traffic. GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION SIZES All dimensions quoted in this brochure are nominal and are for guidance only. Actual sizes may vary. KBM Natural Stone are continually making innovations and improvements to our products so we reserve the right to vary designs and specifications without prior notice. COLOURS The colours shown in this brochure are as accurate as printing and photographic processes allow. Tonal variations are evident in all of KBM Natural Stone s products, we therefore recommend that products are viewed from our stock or display area. BLENDED SOIL KBM Natural Stone supply the finest quality blended soil to gardeners and landscape contractors. Our sustainable soil is rich in organic matter, fertile and free from contamination. This makes it perfect for growing without the need to add extra compost and fertilizers. We supply our blended soil in Jumbo bags and in bulk tipper loads. Due to the nature of the product, there is approximately 40% more volume in a Jumbo bag compared to one tonne of dug soil, giving our customers better value for money. CLEANING Regular maintenance is required to keep the overall appearance of the product in the finest condition. We recommend thoroughly washing paved areas with warm soapy water and brushing off with a stiff yard brush at least twice a year to maintain your investment. High pressure washers are too aggressive for some natural stones and mortar joints and are therefore not recommended. KBM Natural Stone cannot be held responsible for any possible damage caused to our products from acid based cleaners or weed killers. STAINS Some types of natural stone may contain a small content of iron and when in contact with moisture can develop rust marks on the surface of the paving. A proprietary rust remover should restore the product back to the original state. 20

21 Patio Kit & Laying Guide PATIO KIT & LAYING GUIDE PATIO KIT Paving is simple with KBM Natural Stone s patio kits. They provide a random laying pattern over square metres without the need for cutting the stones. The kit is supplied in one pallet and consists of: 13 No 900 x 600mm (A) 13 No 600 x 600mm (B) 13 No 600 x 290mm (C) 9 No 290 x 290mm (D) 3.34 Metres 4.57 Metres 3. Mark out the area with pegs, keeping at least 150mm below any damp course and allow a gradient of 1:60 over the site to take away surface water. 4. After the final levelling of the area, you should compact by means of a roller or tamper. Then spread and compact a layer of hardcore (we will be happy to advise the type of hardcore required). The depth of the hardcore should be adjusted to leave enough space for the paving and mortar bed. 5. Carefully stack the paving near to where they are required and try to avoid rubbing them together. It is always advisable to take the paving from several packs, this helps to mix any shade variations which may occur. 6. Set a line out using the pegs which you fixed earlier, this will be used to obtain a final level. 7. Mix the mortar at a ratio of 1 part cement to 5 parts building sand, the mix should be wet but not runny. KBM Natural Stone paving should be laid on a full mortar bed that supports the complete flag at a thickness of 50mm. Gently place the paving onto the mortar and tap down, keeping a piece of wood between the mallet and slab, until the surface is level with the line. Continue with the rest of the laying in the same manner. (Please note that on random patterns the joint widths may vary slightly). Pointing is best done as you progress by buttering the edges with mortar and then finishing the joints off later when the mortar has dried slightly. Correct way up: GUIDE TO LAYING 1. Start by drawing your proposed pattern onto a sheet of graph paper, try to keep your dimensions to fit the paving you intend to use, this will help to avoid cutting. 2. To give long and lasting service, prepare the area to be paved by excavating all vegetation and soil to a depth of at least 200mm. Driveways Natural sandstone is suitable for domestic driveways, providing there is an adequate sub-base of hardcore. The paving flags must be laid on a minimum bed of 100mm wet concrete (5 parts sharp sand : 1 part cement). Our delivery service is free to local addresses and loads are usually despatched within a 3 5 day period, depending on stocks and transport.
