Our goal is to bring you not only the finest, precision-made instruments, but also to furnish you with the most extensive line of products available. By offering you a variety of finishes, tips, handles, and the most innovative products, we hope to become your sole supplier of surgical instruments and equipment. Kryptonite Instruments Kryptonite Kryptonite is a natural, glare-free black material. It is a non-ferrous alloy incapable of rusting and is seven times more resistant to damage than stainless steel. Because the color is not a coating, it cannot flake off! Synergetics offers a limited lifetime warranty against corrosion on all of our Kryptonite forceps. Microserrated Microserrated Through a unique manufacturing process, we are able to offer many of our instruments with microserrations. These microserrations are tiny grabbers cut into the metal itself. Unlike traditional diamond dusted forceps, these microserrations cannot come off. The result is a superior grasping surface with improved durability. Diamond Black Diamond Black Many of our instruments are also available with a Diamond Black finish that offers a nearly diamondhard, glare-free black surface that improves durability and corrosion resistance. 20ga, 23ga, 25ga, and 27ga Sizes 23ga 25ga 27ga 23ga, 25ga and 27ga instruments are indicated by the appropriate symbols throughout the catalog, otherwise the instrument is 20ga. At Synergetics, we do not believe that one size fits all. Because no two situations and no two surgeons are the same, we have increased your choices by offering 20ga, 23ga, 25ga, and 27ga instruments. Syntrifugal Tips Syntrifugal Disposable Synergetics also offers the Syntrifugal Handle with interchangeable disposable and reusable tips. The disposable tips are the finest disposable tips you will find. The same patented process used to make our reusable instruments is also used to make our disposable tips. Any of the products in the catalog with the SD symbol should be used with a Syntrifugal handle only. Any of our reusable instruments can be made into a Syntrifugal reusable tip. Please note, however, that the Syntrifugal reusable tips should be used with the Syntrifugal handle only. 57 APPENDIX cleaning Synergetics instruments have a precision working mechanism. Fluids will enter this mechanism during the surgical procedure. If these fluids are not cleaned out promptly, this contamination can lead to corrosion, protein accumulation and the possibility of instrument malfunction. CARE AND HANDLING OF MICROSURGICAL INSTRUMENTS 1. CLEANING Immediate Cleaning Remove blood, saline, tissue and other contaminates immediately by flushing with distilled water (demineralized water). Clean instruments with a mild soap. Flush with distilled water. Flush with alcohol. Ultrasonic Cleaning and Drying Follow the manufacturer s instruction for proper use of your ultrasonic cleaner. Use only suds detergents with distilled water (ph 7.0). Place tip protectors on instruments before placing in ultrasonic cleaner. Immerse instruments together in a mesh type tray for the specified time period as described by the ultrasonic cleaner s instructions. This time period usually runs less than 5 minutes. (DO NOT ALLOW the instruments to touch one another while in the tray.) Flush instruments thoroughly with distilled water. This removes any chemical residues from the surface and prevents instrument from staining Flush with alcohol. Dry instruments with a hot air blower rather than hand drying with gauze or towels. (Fine tips and edges can be damaged by contact.) 2. STERILIZATION Sterilize instruments according to hospital guidelines. Steam autoclaving is widely used because cycle time is relatively low. Although flash autoclaving is an accepted method of sterilization, the instrument s useful life will be shortened. Use of either the Steris or the Sterrad process will also compromise instrument life, and will void the warranty. ETO sterilizing is recommended due to low temperature and moisture levels experienced during processing. The major limitation with ETO sterilization is the long cycle and aeration time required. 3. INSPECTIONS Inspect instruments on a continual basis. If a problem is observed or suspected, it should be labeled and set aside for evaluation/repair. Scissors should be checked for burrs at tips, nicks in the cutting edges of blades, and loose screws which could prevent smooth cutting action. Ring handled instruments should be opened to examine box locks. If a box lock is loose, jaw misalignment will occur. Needle holders should be able to hold a needle securely. If the needle is not secured in jaws, it should be tagged for repair. Instruments with serrated teeth should be examined for chipped or missing teeth. Do not use damaged instruments for surgery. 4. LUBRICATION Regularly lubricate the joints and locks of the instruments with a high grade medical instrument lubricant. Follow lubricant manufacturer s instructions. 5. STORING Clean the instruments thoroughly before storing. Store the instruments in a dry place. Always protect the tips of the instruments with tip protectors or soft silicone tubing before storage. Do not allow the instruments to move or to touch one another when stored. Use trays with soft silicone mats for storing the instruments. Product Returns Synergetics will accept unused and undamaged goods on a per unit basis as invoiced, if returned within 90 days of the invoice date. Synergetics, in its sole discretion, will provide a refund or a credit for such returned goods, but will assess a restocking fee equal to 25% of the invoice price for each returned item. Please contact Customer Service to obtain a Returned Goods Authorization, which is required to be included with all returned goods. Items having the product number suffix E, L, S, A, or X are special order products, so a return thereof will not result in any credit or refund. For products sold by the box, Synergetics will not accept the return of more than 5 boxes of product from any customer within a 90-day period. Repair Service Synergetics offers full repair services for all Synergetics products, as well as for most competitive products. Ship items for repair to Customer Service and include a purchase order number for the repair service, along with the owner s facility name and address, contact person name and phone number, and a description of the need for repair. Upon receipt, we will inspect the item, determine the extent of the repair needed, and issue a quote for your approval. Only upon your approval will any repair be made. In most cases, repaired instruments can be restored to almost new condition. Product Price List price may change without notice, although all formal quotations are valid for 30 days from the date of issuance. Shipment of Purchased Goods All goods purchased from Synergetics are shipped via UPS, with shipping and insurance charges added to the invoice, unless a customer specifically requests another carrier and provides a charge account number for such carrier.
