4 What We Know About Bullying Among Children and Youth

5 Bullying Is aggressive behavior that intends to cause harm or distress. Usually is repeated over time. Occurs in a relationship where there is an imbalance of power or strength.

6 What Is/Isn t Bullying? Myth: Bullying is the same thing as conflict. Reality: Conflict involves antagonism among 2+ people. Any two people can have a conflict. Bullying only occurs where there is a power imbalance.

Nansel, Journal of the American Medical Association, 2001 First major article to examine the prevalence and consequences of bullying among US youth Report found a total of 29.9 percent of the 15,686 student sample (grades 6-10) reported moderate or frequent involvement in bullying Report concluded that the issue of bullying merits serious attention, both for future research and preventive intervention.

Illustrated Books to nearly 1,000 Boys & Girls Clubs of America Through feedback, we learned the Clubs use the resources by: Fostering discussion during group activity Incorporating into the Street Smart program, which reinforces resistance to gang involvement

25 Federal Bureau of Investigation Vanita Evans, FBI Community Outreach Specialist, Buffalo, NY» Vanita planned a community event at a local movie theater. Before the Karate Kid movie started, she distributed Stop Bullying Now! Campaign resources to familes and youth.» FBI Community Outreach Specialists across the country are now using the TIME for Kids Illustrated Books to address bullying. Feedback indicates SBN! resources are used: In classroom presentations In partnership with local Girl Scouts councils By incorporating materials into the FBI Jr. Special Agent Program
