7 A LIU Installation Guide Overview Overview TAC has several families of distributed intelligent controllers that function within the TAC I/NET integrated network system. These include the Unitary Controller (UC) family, the Micro Regulator (MR) family, and Door Processor (DP) family. Additionally, TAC offers Application Specific Controllers (ASCs) that use hardware and software designed for specific applications. The MRs, DP family, and ASCs use the 7790A LAN Interface Unit (LIU) to connect to the TAC I/NET controller LAN and communicate with TAC I/NET workstations and other controllers. When software is successfully downloaded from a TAC I/NET host, the 7790A LIU is reconfigured for a family, or a mixture of families, and the model number of the LIU changes within the system to reflect its new role. The LIU can be configured as any of the following interface controllers: 7791 Door Processor Interface (DPI) This interface manages a portion of the database for up to 32 Door Processor family controllers Micro Regulator Interface (MRI) This interface supports a mixture of up to 64 Micro Regulators (MRs) and Application Specific Controllers (ASCs) Micro Control Interface (MCI) This interface supports a mixture of up to 64 MRs, ASCs, and DP family controllers. The LIU provides two sublan channels (channel A and channel B). Each sublan channel supports the connection of up to 32 micro control units (MCUs). When the LIU is configured as a DPI, a single sublan channel (channel A) may be used. When the LIU is configured as either an MRI or MCI, both sublan channels may be used. The LIU also allows each sublan channel to be connected in an open-loop or closedloop installation. When the sublan channel is configured as a closed loop, the LIU communicates through both primary and alternate paths, ensuring communication in case of a break in the sublan channel cable. The LIU supports the definition of internal points with all of the extension capabilities typical of the 7716 PCU. The internal points in the LIU are defined only for point addresses not currently used by MCUs on the sublan channels. The LIU has 256KB of battery-backed RAM for processor use. Note: This product contains a Nickel-Cadmium (NiCad) rechargeable battery. This battery should not be crushed or incinerated when disposing of this product. Door Processor Interface For the 7790A to support the Door Processor family of controllers, it must be configured as a 7791 DPI or a 7793 MCI. Similar in organization to the Unitary Controller family, the Door Processor family uses the 7791 DPI to connect to the TAC I/NET controller LAN. The DPI handles all communication with TAC I/NET workstations and other controllers. The Door Processor Units (DPUs) reside on the sublan controlled by the DPI. The Door Processor family includes the following controller models: DPU-7900, 2010 Schneider Electric. All rights reserved. 1

8 Overview 7790A LIU Installation Guide DPU-7910A, DPU-7920, DIU-7930, and DIO Each controller model provides different reader options and input/output point capabilities. The DPI communicates with up to 32 DP family controllers through shielded twistedpair cables connected to channel A of the LIU. The segment extends up to 5000 feet (1500 meters). The DP sublan connections are provided through an RS485 plug-on termination (TB3). Communication speed on the DP sublan is 9600 bps. The DPI maintains Automatic Time Schedules (ATS), Access Initiated Control (AIC), and elevator control information. If two or more DPUs are in the same anti-passback zone, the DPI allows them to communicate and enables the anti-passback function between them. The DPI also contains a redundant copy of a portion of the Access Control database contained in the DPUs. Note: The DPI configuration supports only channel A of the sublan, and a total of 32 DPUs. Micro Regulator Interface Micro Control Interface When configured as a 7792 MRI, the 7790A provides support for MRs and ASCs. The MRI handles all communication between TAC I/NET workstations and the MRs and ASCs residing on both channels of the sublan. The MR family of controllers include the MR MB (MRA), MR MB (MRB), MR BM (MRC), MR MB (MRD), MR88 (MRF), MR632 (MRG), MR16C (MRH), and the MR88R (MRK). Each controller model is aimed at a specific application environment, although it can migrate to other applications that can be handled through the Micro Regulator s DDC and Calculated point functions. The ASC family of controllers includes the MR-VAV-AX, MR-AHU, MR-VAV-X1, MR-VAV-X2, and MR-HP. ASCs are similar to MRs except that they include pre-engineered control algorithms. These controllers use hardware and software designed for specific applications, and can operate in a stand-alone configuration or as part of a TAC I/NET network. The MRI forms the communication point between the controller LAN and the sublan where the MRs and ASCs reside. The MRI communicates with up to 64 MRs and ASCs through shielded, twisted pair cables. The MRI connects to two sublan segments, each containing up to 32 controllers. Each segment extends up to 5000 feet (1500 meters). The sublan connections are provided through two plug-on terminations (TB3 and TB4). Communication speed to the sublan controllers is 9600 bps. When configured as a 7793 MCI, the 7790A allows for the connection of the MR, DP, and ASC family of controllers on both sublan channels. The MCI is the connection between the TAC I/NET controller LAN and the controllers on the sublan. The MCI communicates with, and supervises, up to 64 sublan controllers through shielded, twisted-pair cables. The MCI connects to two sublan segments, each containing up to 32 MCUs Schneider Electric. All rights reserved.

10 Physical Description 7790A LIU Installation Guide Communication Reset Memory The LIU provides up to six ports, as follows: A standard synchronous RS485 controller LAN port. Two standard asynchronous RS485 sublan ports. Two asynchronous serial ports. These ports provide access to external PCs, external modems, and the HC7410 hand held console. The first asynchronous port (P1) provides a modular TTL level interface to a standard HC7410 hand held console (HHC) and operates at 1200 bps. The second asynchronous port (P2) provides an RS232 port for direct connection to a PC or external Auto-answer Hayes-compatible modem. The RS232 port s baud rate is set through the HHC. When connected directly to a PC, the LIU performs the functions of a TAC 7801 Tap without consuming an additional LAN address or additional hardware. When connected to a Hayes-compatible modem, the Integrated Dial function (i.e., one-way dial from the host PC to the controller LAN) is provided. An optional plug-on board providing an RS232 serial port that can be used to connect an external modem or one of several communication multiplexing devices is available. Refer to RS232 Serial Expansion Module on page 5. Upon power loss/restoration, the LIU executes an automatic reset memory test of RAM and EPROM. The test uses an array of RAM test bytes and a Checksum check on the EPROM. If the check is successful, control and execution are passed to programmed memory. A manual reset that is started by pressing the reset button executes the same tests. The LIU provides support for several types of memory with variable amounts of each. The memory is currently organized as follows: Table 1. LIU Memory Socket Amount Memory type U1 32KB EPROM (Stores boot firmware) U2 and U3 256KB RAM (Stores download software and database) The 7790A LIU provides 512 bytes of non-volatile RAM (NOVRAM) storage. This memory holds all parameters necessary to establish basic communication with the controllers after a long-term power outage (for example, loss of RAM). The software design and memory organization support the complete download of all software, including revised LAN drivers that are invoked after completion of the download. The downloaded software is held in RAM. The software can be downloaded while the LIU is on-line with TAC I/NET Schneider Electric. All rights reserved.

11 7790A LIU Installation Guide Physical Description RS232 Serial Expansion Module When the LIU is emulating a Tap, it can store the telephone numbers as a standard Tap would. Memory is sized to ensure accommodation of at least eight telephone numbers of at least 25 digits each. The optional RS232 Serial Expansion Module provides an additional serial interface for the 7790A. It supports two-way dial or dedicated-line communication as currently supplied by TAC s or Tap, respectively. The data rate is user-selectable. This optional interface can be connected to any of the following devices: External auto-dial/auto-answer (AD/AA) modem When connected to a Hayescompatible AD/AA modem, the 7790A will provide the functionality of the Tap. The following types of modems are supported: Synchronous Use a synchronous modem when the controller is loaded with a TAC I/NET version 4.x or earlier binary file. The controller must also have TAC I/NET version 4.x boot firmware (EPROM). Asynchronous Use an asynchronous modem when the controller is loaded with a TAC I/NET 2000 or later binary file. The controller must also have TAC I/NET 2000 or later boot firmware (EPROM). Note: Ensure that all AD/AA Taps within your TAC I/NET system are configured to use the same communication protocol either synchronous, or asynchronous. Mixing AD/AA protocols will cause communication errors. TAC I/NET 2000 is compatible with TAC I/NET version 4.x Tap and controller binary loads. Therefore, when synchronous AD/AA communication is required on a TAC I/NET 2000 system (for example, when using a 78040, 78050, or Tap), you must continue to use TAC I/NET version 4.x Tap and controller binary loads. External synchronous dedicated line modem When connected to an external Hayes-compatible dedicated line modem, the 7790A provides the functionality of a TAC Tap. Refer to TCON101, TAC I/NET Tap and Repeater Installation Guide, for a complete description the Tap function. Another RS232 data communication device. Power Supply Electrical power for the LIU enters at the bottom left edge of the board (TB1). A single, 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 40 VA external transformer provides the input power for the LIU Schneider Electric. All rights reserved. 5

12 Physical Description 7790A LIU Installation Guide Universal Enclosure TAC s universal enclosure provides a protected environment in locations in which dirt, dust, or other contaminants may exist. The model recommended for the LIU and MR controllers is the ENCL1813, which is UL916 listed. The universal enclosure allows both door and back panel mounting, providing additional space for optional equipment such as transformers and electrical junction boxes. The enclosure includes a key lock for the enclosure door. The LIU board comes already mounted on a baseplate. That baseplate/pcb assembly is then mounted into the universal enclosure. If the perforated backplane is used to mount the baseplates, then the size of the baseplates and the enclosure are the limiting factors. Baseplates vary in length depending upon the type of controller, but the width is consistent. The baseplate has a keyhole mounting pattern (see Figure 1 on page 3). All controllers or interface units are attached to a baseplate for mounting in a universal enclosure. See Table 8 on page 28 for the dimensions of the universal enclosure Schneider Electric. 20 Installation Procedures 7790A LIU Installation Guide Connecting the Power Supply Electrical power connections for the 24 VAC input power are located along the lower left corner of the controller (see Figure 9). P1 TB1 TB VAC 24VAC GND 24 VAC Transformer Earth Ground Figure 9. LIU Power Connection Caution: Before you apply power to the LIU, ensure that the 24 VAC leads are connected only to TB1. Connection to any other terminal block will damage the LIU. 1. Connect the 24 VAC input leads from a separate, isolated, 24 VAC, 40 VA transformer to terminals 1 and 2 of terminal block TB1. Note: Do not attempt to use the same AC transformer for any sublan device (MR, DPU, UC, ASC, or transducer) and its associated LAN interface device (MRI, DPI, MCI, UCI, or I/SITE LAN). This will result in improper operation of one or both of the devices. Grounding Requirements 2. Connect terminal 3 of TB1 to a good earth ground using 14 AWG (2.081 mm 2 ) wire. To ensure proper operation of the controller, it is imperative that the unit be correctly grounded as follows: Terminal 3 of TB1 must be connected to a good earth ground through the best means possible. This should be accomplished by connecting a AWG ( mm 2 ) wire from terminal 3 of TB1 to metallic structural components known to be grounded. The controller depends on this ground path for transient protection. Do not connect the controller LAN shield drain to the LAN terminal block (TB2). The controller LAN shield drain must be connected directly to earth ground at one location only. (This may be at the LIU.) Shield drain wire continuity must be maintained as the LAN cable passes through each controller. Shield drain wires from each LAN cable segment must be spliced together, insulated, and tied back such that wires do not come in contact with ground or any conductive surface within a controller Schneider Electric. All rights reserved.

21 7790A LIU Installation Guide Set Up and Operation Set Up and Operation This chapter describes the various components of the LIU and how to setup the controller for operation. This unit mounts on an indoor wall surface in an area that meets the specifications outlined (refer to Specifications on page 28). You should set the LIU s address after first powering up the unit and prior to connecting the controller LAN. For the LIU, identify and record sub-controllers that connect to the sub-controller LANs on channel A and B. Write this information on a copy of the Sub-controller Chart located on page 26 of this Installation Guide. LIU Setup Connecting the Hand Held Console Setup for the LIU requires the power line frequency setting to be 50 or 60 Hz, depending on your power source. Use the following procedures to set the LIU controller address, Tap emulation mode, and baud rates. These procedures use the HC7410 hand-held console (HHC) to program the LIU. The first asynchronous port (P1) provides a modular TTL level interface to the HHC, and operates at 1200 bps. An RJ11 modular jack is provided along the lower left side of the controller for connection of the HHC. The HHC is used to set the LAN address and baud rate of the LIU before connecting it to the TAC I/NET controller LAN, and to field check the LIU. Refer to LIU Setup on page 15 for procedures using the HHC. The second asynchronous port (P2) provides an RS232 port for direct connection to a TAC I/NET host PC, or external Hayes-compatible modem. The RS232 port s baud rate is set using a HHC. Refer to Setting the LIU Tap Baud Rate on page 17. When connected directly to a PC, the LIU performs the functions of a 7801 Tap without consuming an additional LAN address. When connected to a Hayes-compatible modem, the Integrated Dial function (i.e., one-way dial from the host PC to the controller LAN) is provided. Refer to Setting the LIU Tap Emulation on page 16. Port P2 provides asynchronous communication through a 9-conductor, D-Subminiature connector. This port allows the direct connection of a host workstation or asynchronous modem to the LIU. The circuit connections at this port are typical of the serial COM port on the PC. Use cable number CBL072 for DE-9, and CBL073 for DB-25 connections to PC COM ports. Use cable number CBL074 to connect the LIU to an asynchronous modem using a 25-pin connector. The three RS485 LAN ports (TB2, TB3, and TB4) are accessed through 5-position terminal blocks located along the bottom edge of the LIU (see Figure 12). 26 Set Up and Operation 7790A LIU Installation Guide Controller LAN When connected through this port (TB2), the LIU can communicate with other peer controllers on the controller LAN. Field connections for the RS485 controller LAN port are listed in the following table: Table 5. RS485 Controller LAN Port Termination Terminal Function 1 + Data (A) 2 Data (B) 3 Not Used Protocol The RS485 LAN port uses a synchronous data link communication (SDLC) protocol and implements a token passing bus to regulate access to the controller LAN. The LIU controls the RS485 LAN port through a serial communication controller located on the processor chip. LAN Node Address The controller LAN node address (0 63) of the LIU is selected using an HHC. Refer to TCON073, HC7410 Hand Held Console User Guide for operating details of the HHC. The LIU controller LAN address can occupy a single node address or a range of two consecutive node addresses. The first address identifies sub-controller LAN channel A while the second consecutive address (if used) identifies sub-controller LAN channel B. When entering the controller LAN node address, it must be entered as a range. If only one channel is used, channel A for instance, enter the same address twice. Refer to Setting the Controller LAN Address on page 15. Note: The LIU, configured as a 7791 DPI, supports only 1 station address. Once the LIU is configured as a 7792 MRI or a 7793 MCI, the device can be configured as 2 stations. Sub-controller LAN Data Rate The data rate for the RS485 SDLC controller port on the LIU is selectable from the HC7410, with the current selection maintained in nonvolatile storage. The rate selection supports 9600 or 19,200 bps. The normal rate is 19,200 bps. Refer to Setting the LIU Controller LAN Baud Rate on page 17. When connected through ports TB3 and TB4, the LIU can communicate with the MCUs on channels A and B of the sub-controller LAN. When configured as a 7791 DPI, only Channel A (TB3) may be used. When communicating with MCUs in a 7792 MRI configuration or configured as a 7793 MCI, both A and B (TB3 and TB4) channels may be used. Each sub-controller LAN channel may have up to 32 sub-controllers. Both subcontroller LAN channels have a primary and alternate connection on the terminal block (see Figure 12). The LIU uses the primary and alternate terminals to connect a closed loop circuit allowing signal flow to either side of the MCUs Schneider Electric. All rights reserved.

This optional interface can be connected to: Figure 13. PRS232 Serial Communications Module External auto-dial/auto-answer (AD/AA) modem When connected to a Hayescompatible AD/AA modem, the 7790A will provide the functionality of the Tap. This following types of modems are supported: Synchronous Use a synchronous modem when the controller is loaded with a TAC I/NET version 4.x or earlier binary file. Use cable number CBL048 for connecting to either of these modems. Refer to the TAC I/NET Technical Reference Guide for more AD/AA information Schneider Electric. All rights reserved.

29 7790A LIU Installation Guide Set Up and Operation External synchronous dedicated line modem When connected to an external Hayes-compatible dedicated line modem, the 7790A provides the functionality of a TAC Tap. Use cable number CBL048 for this connection. Refer to TCON101, TAC I/NET Tap and Repeater Installation Guide, for a complete description the Tap function. Another RS232 data communication device. Refer to TCON101, 7800 Series Tap and Repeater Installation Guide, for details about TAC Taps Tap Emulation and Beeper Operation Beeper calls are used to notify a user of a specific condition occurring in the TAC I/NET system. This condition is user-definable using message masking and priorities. The beeper is only a notification tool. It contains no originating code or phone number. It issues either a tone or vibrates the beeper. To specify a beeper call, select Beeper in the Type field of the 7806 Configuration editor. If a beeper service is used, enter the beeper service phone number. If a human response is expected, enter symbol at the end of the beeper number. This will allow the Tap emulation to retry on busy and no answer conditions. symbol will cause the modem to listen for a 5-second period of silence after the first ring is detected. The length of time that the modem will listen for this period of silence is established by the Timeout field in the editor. If a period of silence is detected, the call will be considered to be completed. Note: Some experimentation with the timeout period that is set in the Tap editor may be required. This timeout period should be set long enough to cause the modem to hang on the line until the 5-second period of silence can be detected. Since this beeper function is used internationally to dial out to numbers that must have a human response, it is necessary to accommodate differences in the manner in which beeper systems and humans respond. When using an external modem (78061 Tap emulation) you should initialize your Hayes compatible modem with the X4 command (factory default), which enables your modem to return the busy response code if it is expected that a person will answer (or not answer) the telephone. This will provide a rapid response to a busy error. Note: It is imperative that any modem used for beeper interfacing operate as described above. The emulation will alter the modem initialization timing sequence to always initialize at a 2400 bps data rate. Note: The 7790A LIU will send a setup string to the modem to place it in the auto-answer mode. This auto-answer function will be set to answer on the first ring Tap Emulation and Pager Operation Select pager operation in the TAC I/NET software by selecting Beeper from the Type field. Pager operation is used to notify a user of a specific condition occurring in the TAC I/NET system. This condition is user-definable using message masking and priorities. The pager is designed to receive a string of characters that are displayed on the recipients pager. This string could represent a phone number or a recognizable warning code.
